Advantages: Free with MS Windows XP(and probably others). Disadvantages: Too simple for most TEXT processing.
Microsoft Windows normally offer 2 free text-processing packages with their operating systems (now XP). Notepad and WORDPAD. The latter is the more sophisticated of the 2 both of them fairly simple. Today we consider WORDPAD.
THE PROGRAM (WORDPAD)
Microsoft help files talk about the product as a program so best we start to consider it this way. WordPad has most of the basic capabilities of a word processor. I’ve outlined the basic features below:

- YOU CAN USE AND INSERT TABLES in your file.
- BASIC PAGE SET UP - e.g. margins. The product is not to good for large documents.
- YOU CAN SAVE FILES AS WORD DOCUMENTS - this allows you to edit files even though you don’t have a program.
- YOU CAN EDIT HTML and WEBPAGES - Notepad maybe better for this.
