Microsoft's attempt at the gaming industry
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
china_wolf
Advantages: Most powerful console at this moment in time
Disadvantages: Microsoft have a reputation for being disliked, big chunky heavy ugly console
...it before the boffins at Microsoft carved XBOX into it. Yes this console is not attractive at all.
However do not think this console lacks power. Being from Microsoft, this console is made from PC components already available in the PC market and so it boasts the 'most powerful next generation console to date'. Well Billy Gates, you are right this console is the fastest at the time of writing this review, but just wait until the next next generation ...

Sony, don't count your chickens
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
retroactyv
Advantages: HUGE hard disk
Disadvantages: Big, chunky, and noisy
...all in the design, and Microsoft definitely had hand care in mind when they designed the Xbox controllers. There are triggers on the controller (where L1, R1, L2, R2 are on the PS2), and these make things a lot easier, especially when they're configured as accelerator and brake in a driving games. And when you're playing a shoot 'em up, R is the perfectly designed button for a weapon trigger.
There are the Xbox's X,Y,B and A, that are pretty much ...

The best console to date
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
SALAMANDA
Advantages: Powerful and looks the business
Disadvantages: DVD remote is not free
...was a little cheeky by Microsoft because after you have just forked out £199 for the unit and probably bought a game for £39, you don’t then expect to have to pay any more, and remember you “CANNOT” play a DVD with out it. I have only ever used this to play my DVD’s so I can’t make any comparisons but to my critical eye it seemed very good and particularly clear in terms of sound and picture.
It also has an 8 GB hard disk drive instead of a memory ...

Generation X
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
3rdRockSatan
Advantages: Very powerful | Good potential
Disadvantages: Controller niggles | Lack of good games
...been a rough year for Microsoft and its big, black console. It has flopped in Japan, so much in fact that even the Dreamcast and the PS1 have been known to outsell it, despite a hefty price cut it is just not shifting and it doesn’t help that retailers aren’t stocking it. Things are decidedly better in America where Microsoft claim victory over the Nintendo GameCube. Americans, unlike the Japanese, are not adverse to the size of the XBox. In Europe ...

My Wife's Christmas Box
Review of Microsoft Xbox by

Disadvantages: Not enough new games being released on Xbox at the same time as other platforms
...clocked it on his PS2! Microsoft has promised Millions of pounds into new game development for the Xbox as currently there are only 400 titles available.
Installing the Xbox
++++++++++++++
The Xbox is very heavy so it needs to be put somewhere than can support the weight. You need 1 electric plug socket for it, plus a spare Scart socket on the back of your TV. If you haven’t got a Scart plug you can get an Xbox adaptor for £19.99

Importing from the USA
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
annette_tr9
Advantages: cheaper games from the USA, excellent sound
Disadvantages: quite a bit of hassle getting it here in the first place
After much decision making (about five minutes) we decided that it might be about time to update our games console from a PS1 to an X Box – a bit of a difference there I know!
Being a great bargain hunter I spent ages trying to find the cheapest price and in the end we decided to import one from the USA. At the time they were much cheaper, it was only after receiving it they reduced the price over here – typical, I was not amused.
So, ...

My view on the xbox
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
coolchanty
Advantages: can have upto 20 pllayers, can play dvd's,you can surf the net with it
Disadvantages: expensive for what it is
The all new xbox produced by Micorsoft is just another all new games console which can do a bit more.
I am sure everyone knows and remembers the Spectrum, the Amastrad, Sega master system and megadrive, Ninetendo and the Super Ninetendo and the list just goes on and on.
Today the new games consoles are designed to do other things though as well like play music cd's and video's, dvd's, surf the net etc, not just to play the game.
My 16 year ...

The X-Box Decision
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
mattjoel
Advantages: Not too expensive, excellent graphics.
Disadvantages: Large controllers.
This amazing piece of technology has simply just got to be the way into the future. It doesn’t matter what games or DVD you buy for this console, the X-Box never fails to impress. The graphics that are produced by this console are truly outstanding and no other games console to date has the graphics capability of the X-Box. I’m 17 years of age and have had many games consoles in the past, but I feel that the X-Box has brought me the most satisfaction ...

Does X Really Mark The Spot of Fun
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
HardCoreGamer2k2
Advantages: Currently Has A Nice Library Of Games, Many Features...
Disadvantages: May Not Have As Nice A 2002 As GameCube and PlayStation 2...
...excited, the possibilities were compelling. Microsoft strived to create the most powerful home console ever, and the succeeded, but as the company Atari learned the hard way, consoles need games to sell well, not power! And so on November 15, 2001 Microsoft launched it's first ever video game system to North America.
Few consoles from North America have been successful, but the X-Box was warmly accepted in North America despite a poor launch day. ...

Skatebored? or a Door Stop?
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
DBZKing
Advantages: good console, looks good
Disadvantages: way big, a loud console
This console is a great thing, very smart, very smart indeed. It has two different types of itself, there’s a regular black console, and now there is a limited crystal edition, which I own out of the two. I first got the XBOX for my birthday which was on the 29th of May, and I got 5 games, they were Halo, the best game ever, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, one of the newest Crash game yet, and I have also wrote a review on it, Hitman Contracts, ...

The definitive X-Box - PS2 killer or what
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
WebGuru
Advantages: Best console hardware on the market and developer support. Microsoft's deep R&D pockets.
Disadvantages: May be a bit pricey but good value for what you get.
...guess it had to happen! Microsoft could not sit content with their domination in other areas and have decided to enter the battle for the gaming console market. Many feel that they may have stretched themselves too far this time. The X Box’s offerings are very tempting however, to say very the least.
The X-Box is basically a game console based on PC hardware with Windows 2000 technology inside. The company maintains that this is not a stripped ...

Great for gamers, but not just for gamers
Review of Microsoft Xbox by

Advantages: Performance rivals PC, plays DVDs and CDs very well.
Disadvantages: DVD playback, RF out, and RGB out are all extras
...fact modified USB ports. Microsoft have got clever with these ports, because there is a perennial problem with controllers disconnecting midway through play because they've been pulled. To get around this, the controllers have tension breakers on their cables, which means that if you pull the controller too hard, the cable splits in two. You can simply plug it back together again, but it stops your Xbox going flying. I think this is a good thing, ...

XBOX memory alone makes this worth buying
Review of Microsoft Xbox by
berty1966
Advantages: most powerful, best available, built in hard drive
Disadvantages: not enough games(yet) price of games, need DVD player hardware
Thats right, the microsoft Xbox has a built in 8 gigabyte Hard drive to save all your games to,alleviating the need for a memory card. Memory cards are available if you want to take your saved game to a friends house or something, but other than that they are not needed at all. Given that a memory card for the playstation2 costs around £25 to £30 for 8mb, you would have to spend around £30,000 to get the same amount of memory.
The loading time for ...

Review of Microsoft Xbox by

Advantages: The most powerful console on this planet.
Disadvantages: Design of console not so good.
With the new console from Microsoft you can give the finger to Sony and Nintendo for their poor attempts. The Xbox console is the most advanced to date and most powerful.
The Xbox delivers superior graphics, incredible audio and the most intense, adrenaline, pumping gaming experience which you wont find in any other console.
With most of the components made from popular PC manufacturers such as Intel and nVidia you can expect the best with this ...
