...we decided on was the Miele Cat and Dog TT 5000 although at the time we had neither a cat nor a dog but this one seemed to be the best for power and performance from what we could see so this was the one we chose.
HOW MUCH DID IT COST?
As I said we looked in one or two places at the various sorts of cleaners and priced them as we went along. The best price we could get was Argos at £189.99. I have just checked the Internet and the price is still ... ...an awkward angle whereas the Miele is carried more like a suitcase and makes it much less of a strain on my back.
THE TOOLS
The main brush is the standard floorhead and is used for carpets and floors (not unsurprisingly!) The crevice nozzle is for getting into awkward corners, crevices or folds. Advantages: Great cleaning results for dog hairs on all floor types Disadvantages: none
Excellent machine, I am so please I actually love to hoover now! The cleaner is solid, but light weight. The metal tubes extend to a fantastic length and the head can be altered so it will fit up my sofa, bed, etc. The cleaning result is amazing, especially for dog hairs. The tools are brilliant, so I now use the vacuum for carpets, hard floors and tiled floors. The tools give great results on sofa and curtains. I use the small brush tool everywhere ... ...is very simple to use and stores away very well, as it has a side and bottom brakets that hold the metal tube and head. This also makes lifting up and down stairs very easy. I wouldn't want to use another vacuum now after experiencing this quality. The bags also come with new filters and are excellent value. A little bit on the pricey side as it cost £199.99, but well worth it. ...

Advantages: Contollable suction power Disadvantages: haven't found any yet!
The Miele CAT & DOG TT-5000 (S5260) Cylinder is a revelation. The suction power is variable for differnet surfaces - curtains or furniture etc. Full power 2200 - low power 300 watts.
Even with full power 2200 watts it seems very quiet - the first one my cats not afraid of!
It has automatic cord rewind and tools on board. 3 onboard accessories include the dusting brush - with natural bristles, an upholstery nozzle and crevice nozzle. They are stored ... ...if there was a blockage.
Miele state that the hoover has been tested for 1000 hours which is 20 year usage!
It comes with an active air filter, but you can easily buy a hepa filter.
It comes with a buffer strip around the body of the vacuum to protect furniture and the machine itself.
It has a stainless steel height adjustable telescopic suction tube - which is convenient as theres no more excuses about bad backs from my partner!
