Advantages: loads of features, good all-round camera Disadvantages: batteries and memory card supplied are inadequate
I purchased my Minolta Dimage 5 at Schiphol airport, Amsterdam, and having had about 6 weeks of use, and still not used all the features, although I think I am just about ready to write a review about the camera. Buying at Schiphol took over EUR 200 off the price – EUR 885 instead of EUR 1085 (shop price when I purchased it), although this soon went on two extra 96Mb memory cards.
I chose the camera because it had the feeling of an SLR (Single Lens ... ...been the owner of a Minolta SLR for many years, and liked the look of this one more than the Fuji Finepix 6900, and it was slightly cheaper. Of course domestic Digital Cameras have not yet reached a standard where you can ditch your SLR for good, but for a keen user this will be perfectly adequate, although not really for professional use.
The 7x manual zoom was another thing which attracted me to this camera, with this being the equivalent of a ...

Advantages: Versatility Disadvantages: Not compatable with older Dynax flash guns
...40 years. I started using Minolta cameras 12 years ago, I always found them reliable and user friendly. I watched the growing digital market with some skepticism, looking on the digi’s as nothing more than an expensive boy’s toy. In October 2001 I decided to purchase either a Fuji 6900Z or the Minolta Dimage 5. I physically compared both cameras side by side (I had read test reports on both and also printed out sample shots from both cameras). Finally ... ...equipment for perfect results. The Minolta Dimage 5 is a very important ingredient in this recipe. I would rate this camera to be an asset to any competent photographer, I would only advise people with good knowledge of a 35mm SLR to consider this camera otherwise you may be a little disappointed. The price has come down to about £500.00 since I bought mine making it even better value, I recommended the Dimage 5 to a friend and he is also pleased ...

Advantages: Easy to use with lots of extra features, and looks like a camera! Disadvantages: need at least one battery set and a big memory card for long journeys
We bought Dimage 5 after long and sleepless nights searching the net. It is very easy to use, gives good quality pictures even at low resolutions. Extra features are very satisfactory if you are a beginner and want to learn about photography, also you can switch to auto mode and take a bril picture if you are in rush! It doesn't have mic on board but hey, this is a camera isn't it? It looks like and feels like a camera which appeals to me very much. ... ...sets of batteries and had a holiday for 2 weeks without any problem. A quick charger is a good idea and a 256 MB memory card then you are sorted. It comes with a 16MB smart card but a good quality picture will be about 1MB. "Crucial" has very good deals on smart cards if you buy online. Since its big brother Dimage7 is on the market, you can expect to find Dimage5 cheaper every day. I bought it for £400 but it goes up to £600, so be careful. Absolutely ...

Advantages: Fantastic shots, intuitive menu's, what doesn't it do? Disadvantages: Eats batteries, can get heavy on long shoots, it's big! Only basic instructions supplied printed, full manual on CD
Having had several hobby style digital camera's I decided I wanted a more professional unit. The Dimage fitted my ideals and I bought it in December 2002.
Within minutes of unpacking I had it working with supplied 16meg CF card and batteries. The view finder can be set to auto on when I detects an eye which cuts off the superb LCD screen, this helps to elongate the battery life a little. Here's a tip, buy 2 sets of 1800mah rechargeable batteries ... ...batteries cost that bit more, but the extended life is worth it.
The quality of the pictures that this baby takes are breathtaking. Set to max resolution it allows for blowups to easily 18x12 with no pixelation, in fact I am at the moment looking two framed photo's of my daughters that were taked at varying focal lengths, both superb shots in my humble opinion, both printed professionally using an online service, but both are out of this world.
