...er… here’s the camera: The Minolta Dimage Z1
WHERE DID I BUY IT?
***************************
I bought it on pixmania.com (see my review about this great website), because it was the cheaper I found. I paid £189 for it in June 2004. Today, on the 26/07/04 it costs £178 (bastards!).
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
**********************************
A camera. Yes, a camera. However, it looks like a flashy one.

...with the Japanese camera manufacturer Minolta would be the right step to take. So both parts came to an arrangement and the “new born child” was given a truly original name: Konica-Minolta. Some imagination, wasn’t it?
As digital market grows incredibly fast nowadays every manufacturer has to rack their brains to either come up with a striking new design and features or make better cameras for less money, even if this last might compromise some ...

Advantages: Both Auto/Manual Modes / Easy to use / High Quality Pics Disadvantages: None so far
...the separate “battery pack” that Minolta produce for this camera. My first set of batteries lasted only a week but they were the “cheap” ones supplied with the camera and I was “playing” with the camera a lot finding out it’s features so this is probably why!! I have since bought some Duracell M3 batteries and these have lasted a month so far and I have used the camera fairly often in that time.
The camera comes with a 16mb Secure Digital (or SD) ...

Advantages: Easy To Use, Great Looking, Great Pics Disadvantages: Uses up batteries, shock horror!
This little gem of a Minolta Z1 was bought for me last year as a Christmas present so I was lucky to get something of this calibre, never expected it at all. It came in a small box, but I can tell you I've found it to be a very large package!
WHY GET ONE?
I know some people are really attached to their old SLR's, and with good reason. But the truth is, this camera combines so many of the SLR features with digital efficiency, there's no reason ...

Advantages: Excellent Zoom and picture quaility, Very Fast startup and powerful onboard Flash Disadvantages: Slightly Cheap Feel, Quite low pixel count
As a long term optical SLR camera operator who wanted a good specification Digital camera I spent a long time evaluating the marketplace.
Important criteria were a high value optical Zoom and a range of modes from fully Automatic to fully Manual.
The Z1 offers a 10x optical Zoom, with the ability to enhance this further with a 4x digital Zoom. The optical zoom works very well, however the digital zoom effectively works by zooming in on the pixels ...

I've been looking for a digital camera recently and after careful consideration I went for the DiMage Z1 and don't regret it for an instant! I thought it was a bargin when I paid £220 for it, now you can get it for only £180 then anyone who is buying a camera should consider this one. It has all the usual features (video, red eye reduction etc) plus a few more bells and whistles I haven't been brave enough to play with yet!!!
I have to say this ...

Advantages: Simple to use and takes great pictures. Disadvantages: A little big and very noisy.
...a family day out. The Minolta Dimage Z1, first thing I noticed was that is it a little on the large size which is not very good if you are walking around all day at a theme park or somewhere similar. It is made of shiny silver plastic and is quite heavy for what it is.
As I tried to get to grips with this new peice of technology, I realised that the buttons are quite big and chunky, they are laid out so that even techology phobics such as myself ...

...resolution or colour quality. The Minolta Z1 also has the ability to take videos which are of an average quality which was fine as it was bought as a photographic camera, not a video camera!
Overall I think that this is a great camera no matter who you are - it suits beginners to experts. Definately worth the price. ...

Advantages: Zoom, swift focus, design Disadvantages: LCD range-finder
The Minolta DiMage Z1 is a very nice camera. There is no way around it. It has a - if not beautiful then - professional look over it, and has just the right weight to make it stable.
This is also highly required, due to the 10x zoom.
The battery-container ensures a good grip, and all buttons works in a logical manner, as does the menus.
Slot for external flash is just another good feature, however the build-in one is so powerful you might want ...

Advantages: Ease of use, Lightweight. Huge range of features. Disadvantages: Not the prettiest of cameras to look at. Heavy battery usage.
I had one of these for christmas from my boyfriend. I'm a ceramics artist and am always looking for ways of photographing my work to show it at its maximum potential, but at the same time usually need the images quickly so they can be sent away to galleries.
This camera is a just perfect. The pixellation, although noticable when you enlarge, is minimal. The colours are vivid, and with a choice of sepia, black and white and colour you can get lots ...

Advantages: Good picture quality, easy to use, good battery life Disadvantages: Slightly awkward design, advanced features complex to use
We purchased our new camera shortly before Christmas, and it is certainly the best buy we made over the Christmas period.
The picture quality, even on the memory-saving 'economy' mode, is excellent, capturing details at least as well and possibly better than 35mm. The variety of picture modes - four choices of resolution from 640x480 to 2048x1536, three choices of colour quality - allow you to customise you picture taking to suit your available ...

Advantages: Price, Auto all the way to full manual control, great LCD, movie mode, large zoom Disadvantages: Plastic body
I've been a keen amateur photographer for a number of years and used a variety of cameras. I wanted a new digital, but wanted one that could replace the 300mm zoom I use a lot for sports, would allow me creative control over my photos and even allow me to shot some video clips. When I enquired in a camera shop they started talking at the £500 mark..... WAY above my budget. After some research I bought the Dimage and boy am I glad I did !

Advantages: Performance, affordability, STYLE!! This really is a great camera for the beginner, intermediate or advanced user. Disadvantages: I have found none in over six months, save the fact that I need more memory cards.
I bought this model six months ago after extensive research and demos by retailers and to be honest, was unsure of the design and "feel" of the camera at first.
However, this has proven to be a remarkable discovery for me. It is extremely comfortable to use and has a wealth of features and functions. Having said that, I exercised it in auto mode to get the feel of the camera, using only zoom and flash and was astounded by the results. From there ...
