SHOOT TO YOUR HEARTS DELIGHT

Advantages: Easy to operate, takes excellant photographs
Disadvantages: lens detach button too prominently situated

...This camera is the Minolta Dynax 300si to give its full title! On looking at the camera, it looks pretty daunting to someone who is used to three button cameras! One button to remove the lens cap and one button to turn on the flash, and one to take the picture! Despite the 8 (?) buttons I carried on regardless and examined the camera in detail. On further examination of the camera it is not so difficult to figure out how to use it. There is the ‘lock/on’ ...
...so you can take photographs! This is actually a sliding switch rather than a button – so it would be difficult to switch on accidentally, a bonus for me as this is something I do quite often! The ‘mode’ button which allows you to toggle on the small screen between the type of photographs you want to take, The modes are:  Portrait – ideal for taking full frame photographs of people, illustrated by the woman’s ...

As good as anything else at this price

Advantages: Good features for the price
Disadvantages: The "Bonus Gift Pack" that came with it consisted of a roll of film and a lens brush

This is the first SLR camera I've owned, and I'm very pleased with it. It currently sells at about £150, but there's a slightly newer, more expensive model that probably has a couple of useless extra features. The model I own has everything I really need from it - auto-focus (with manual option), various pre-programmed shutter speed and flash modes, a timer, built-in flash, red-eye reduction, and so on. The lens supplied is a reasonable 35-70 zoom ...

Excellent SLR for beginners.

Advantages: Great for beginners, fool proof, easy to use, compact and can buy used models very cheap.
Disadvantages: Slow autofocus, no manual overrides for shutter and aperture settings.

Excellent compact SLR camera for the beginner/novice photography who wants point & shoot versatility instead of all the hassle of manual settings. Picture quality is pretty good and the auto light metering does a fine job in most situations. It has 5 pre-programmed modes: portrait mode, landscape mode, close up mode, sports mode and night portrait mode. The built in flash can be turned off and has red eye reduction, but it is not sufficient for ...
...at a distance of more than 6 metres. The camera is also very compact and light-weight, and if combined with a modern lens then it is a real winner for travelling. However, this is not the camera for someone who wants to experiment or be creative with photography. The lack of manual controls really makes this a standard 35mm compact camera with SLR quality photos. So definitely not recommended for the amatuer photographers. The only flexibility ...
