Advantages: easy to use with manual settings for pro's Disadvantages: dosnt have the eyestart feature which i love about the dynax 5
My partner purchased this camera from EBay for my birthday as I was still using the ancient Praktica MTL5, which was certainly outdated.
Style:-
The Dynax 404si is quite a compact-sized SLR camera, with performs well in both manual and automatic modes. It has a silver finish with a black grip and a standard silver and black lens. I feel the colouring used gives the camera a classic, sleek professional look.
The camera is certainly not ‘big and ... ...35mm cameras. It is lightweight and not easy to scratch or damage (I have already dropped mine!) It is also perfect to handle, with a hand grip on the right hand side of the camera body. Push button automatics for beginners:-
I would most definitely say that it is great for beginners as they can use the automatic focus (by pushing the button half way) and automatic shutter and aperture settings. Perfection for Professionals:-
For those professional ...

Advantages: A good starter, a long laster and good all-rounder! Disadvantages: Its not digital - not overly technical.
...but performance!
...And the Minolta has bags of it!
The Minolta 404si is not a new model, it now has a close range of brothers and sister that proceed it. For that reason, the camera tends to be a bit cheaper - even on the high street. In my opinion it is still a worthy purchase, especially if this is your first SLR.
Firstly, it has longevity! I've owned this camera for nearly 3 years. It has suffered the usual bangs, knocks and drops, however ... ...'real' photo's. The Minolta is a good make, it works well and is easy to use. The batteries last a very long time (infact does it have batteries? I don't remember changing them ), the zoom is decent (but can always be added to) and that makes it a good all-rounder! (I actually just dropped it again - but don't worry it's fine)!
I'm going to go and put it back someplace safe! Happy snapping! ...

Advantages: Light, easy to use, affordable Disadvantages: Not as versatile as some more advanced photographers may prefer
This camera is eay to use with its essential controls very well placed for the user to handle. It has facilities for more advanced users to test and create photographic masterpieces. This as with all SLR cameras provides a much more versatile basis for your photographic needs. With a range of photographic modes it becomes simple for anyone to create well made pictures.
The manual adjustment of the lens may cause problems at first for people used ... ...use of the camera and will with some practice allow you to get the right shots.
This camera is not APS and so is not for total inexperienced people however it does give a much more expert style to pictures that are taken with it.
The price is another factor to consider however compared to similar entry level products such as the Canon 300 it is an inexpensive way to break into the SLR market. ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: somewhat helpful Review of Minolta Dynax 404SI
Advantages: Pretty straightforward to use as a beginner to SLRs Disadvantages: Has persistent fault with premature film re-wind
I'm really pleased with this camera in most aspects. I bought it around Dec 2002 and used it as a manual SLR as much as my skills would allow. In this sense I was extremely happy with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone who was wanting to 'get into' SLRs.
My only issue with it is quite a serious one. After about a year it began to develop a fault whereby after 6 - 12 shots the film would prematurely re-wind. I've since had it fixed once ... ...Jacobs (who didn't fix it the first time around) are now quoting £115 to repair it. Bearing in mind it only cost ~ £180 new, I'm a little peeved, but am still keen to get it fixed. I'd be interested in hearing if any other members have had similar experiences or can offer advice on this! ...

(+) Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options (-) Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks
(+) Great for beginners, fool proof, easy to use, compact and can buy used models very cheap. (-) Slow autofocus, no manual overrides for shutter and aperture settings.
