Tears For Fears Review ofMisery - Stephen Kingby
darkangelwing
Advantages: A nice gripping and readable novel ; A terrific tale of survival ; Very atmospheric ; The characters thoughts and feelings are projected well to the reader Disadvantages: Suddenly stops flowing towards the middle ; King can be slightly over obsequious towards the main character
...so much. The trouble with Misery are the wretched flashbacks and the patches where Paul is writing a novel for Annie, which is initially a great idea, but these parts really put a halt on the readers progress annoyingly. The title alone is very clever by King, as it is a play on words, being ambiguous, Misery would imply the feeling where as it can also refer to the main character of Paul Sheldons most successful novels.
The plot of Stephen King's ...

...from a car crash - Misery is the situation Paul finds himself in.
Two years of hard graft and in a quiet hotel room Paul Sheldon finally writes ‘The End’ on the novel he hopes will give him the acclaim he so desperately desires. He can turn his back on the romantic slush that has created his best selling author status - the slush that he despises with a passion - and finally emerge as the SERIOUS author he really is. To celebrate he orders a bottle ...

...his romantic novels that star Misery Chastain. Popular as the series may be, Paul has become increasingly unhappy with the trashy style and character, and so decides to kill off the aptly-named Misery in her final book.
Finally free of Misery and able to concentrate on more satisfying, serious works of fiction, Paul is rather pleased with himself, and decides to embark on a drunken drive. Spontaneously, he decides to head North towards Colarado. ...

* Annie Wilkes- She is Paul Sheldon's number one fan, and plans to never let him go alive. Her infatuation with the one novel with the character Misery in it has got a great influence on the way she treats Paul, and tortures him.

Advantages: Excellent for those long winter nights Disadvantages: I couldn't put it down !!!
To me Misery is an astounding piece of literary genius penned by the infamous Stephen King. The book is again in the horror genre. Fascinatingly this book reads like a true story. It is a tremendous psychological thriller about obsessive love and extreme terror.
The story
There are two main characters in the book. There is Paul, a number one selling author and Anne, a nurse who says she is Paul’s number one fan.
The story begins when ...

...want to know what makes Misery so scary, its because whether or not you like it you empathise with the characters. In Misery for example. Just by reading the book you became Paul Sheldon stranded in that crazy woman's house after that terrible automobile accident. You felt his physical pain after he had awaken from that concussion, broken legs dislocated pelvis etc. and you felt his fear and anguish being trapped in that woman's house while she was ...

...favourite novels, the creator of Misery Chastain, she couldn't believe her luck and decided to keep him all to herself. After all she was his number one fan....
But Annie was angry, very angry that Paul had killed Misery and decided that he must write a new 'Misery' novel just for her.
Stephen King lets the story unfolds through the eyes of 'hostage' Paul. There is good character developement as this psychological novel progresses, Paul's pain is ...

Well this is my first opinion so please be gentle with me :)...
I have always enjoyed Stephen King's style of writing and I came across this one while scanning through the library. I hadn't heard anything about it before and thought it would be good to check it out.
From start to finish I was gripped. I made time to read this book and enjoyed mostly all of it.
In this story, Stephen King's narrative swallows you in, bringing you into the centre ...

...his books about fictional character Misery Chastain, which has the housewives of America hooked, especially, as it seems Anne Wilkes.
However, Sheldon has tired of writing Misery books and has decided to end that part of his writing career and concentrate on writing more "serious" literature.
When Anne reads one of his newer books she becomes enraged, and insists that he continues to write Misery books. When the new and final installment of the ...

Quick review of Misery - Stephen King Review ofMisery - Stephen Kingby
scarletpurity
Actually, Misery could be much worse: it is mainly a boring and trashy story of mentally ill romance book fan dreaming of clean and beautiful world (interesting idea never really explored) and her obnoxious prisoner, a writer of bestsellers trying to outwit the sadistic romantic. Sounds interesting? A classic? More like classless.

Scary Review ofMisery - Stephen Kingby

Advantages: full of suspense, almost real Disadvantages: psychologically and physically very cruel - not for the faint-hearted!
Stephen King’s imagination is unreal. He has written so many horror books and still he can come up with better ones. I have read a couple of his novels, but I think “Misery” is one of the best and everybody should read this.
It is the story of a very successful writer, who has a car accident and is found by his “greatest fan”. His car is totally buried in snow and the poor guy is very severely injured and thus depends on his saviour’s mercy. All ...

Advantages: Makes you think Disadvantages: a bit slow
So what would you do handcuffed to the bed, with your loving dead on the floor and the telephone out of reach, and the nearest neighbours several miles away. Well unfortunately Jessie (the woman handcuffed to the bed) has to play through her past in her head, and struggle to get a glass of water off the shelf above her. It is interesting to read about her attempts to escape the handcuffs, and I was just dying to know how she was going to escape. Especially ...

King at his best!
If you have not seen the film - even if you have - get the book! This is Stephen King at his brilliant best! Taking a situation that is just about possible and making it into a compelling story which almost makes you want to call out to the main character Paul Shelden..."Quick quick! She’s coming!!" It is almost excruciating in places, as you feel that you should be able to do something to help! An excellent book that you will want ...

Misery is by far my favourite book by Stephen King. It is very well written and although there aren’t many characters they are built up very well and it is easy to imagine that you are the writer who is held captive. It has all the suspense and excitement of the film and is every bit as good. If you have seen the film and enjoyed it, I would recommend you also read the book. I sometimes find Stephen King books too drawn out and long, but Misery is ...
