...severe sense of foreboding.
Misery can be unpredictable and to be honest slightly misleading in parts if you don't follow the plot carefully. The trouble with Misery are the wretched flashbacks and the patches where Paul is writing a novel for Annie, which is initially a great ... ...play on words, being ambiguous, Misery would imply the feeling where as it can also refer to the main character of Paul Sheldons most successful novels. Paul has just killed her off in his previous novel and is feeling liberated ...

Misery is the heroine in best selling writer Paul Sheldon’s series of romantic historical novels.
Misery is the pig that resides on the homestead of Paul Sheldon’s ‘Number One fan’ Annie Wilkes.

However, Misery is my partner’s favourite book of all time - he has been begging me to read it almost from the very beginning of our relationship. My problem is not the horror aspect but the pain. ...his romantic novels that star Misery Chastain. Popular as the series may be, Paul has become increasingly unhappy with the trashy style and character, and so decides to kill off the aptly-named Misery in her final book.

Advantages: Excellent for those long winter nights Disadvantages: I couldn't put it down !!!
To me Misery is an astounding piece of literary genius penned by the infamous Stephen King. The book is again in the horror genre. Fascinatingly this book reads like a true story. It is a tremendous psychological thriller about obsessive love and extreme terror.
The story
There are two main characters in the book. There is Paul, a number one selling author and Anne, a nurse who says she is Paul’s number one fan.
The story begins when Paul is involved ... ...character in the books - Misery Blaise. Anne then forces Paul to rewrite the novel so that Misery lives. Here starts the torture, and the dark side of the Anne’s character emerges. Anne makes sure that Paul has no means of escape. She does this by physically restraining Paul and using every means of torture, she can conjure up to force Paul to write the novel. When you read the book, you can sense Paul’s sheer terror and helplessness of the situation. ...

...want to know what makes Misery so scary, its because whether or not you like it you empathise with the characters. In Misery for example. Without her he wouldn't have survived, but without her he would not be tortured. The torture she puts him through is incredible, very creative. this is definitely one of Stephen King's best books. I have read the book and seen the movie and I recommend both. But I recommend the book most of all. It expresses much more detail than ...

...favourite novels, the creator of Misery Chastain, she couldn't believe her luck and decided to keep him all to herself. After all she was his number one fan....
But Annie was angry, very angry that Paul had killed Misery and decided that he must write a new 'Misery' novel just for her.
Stephen King lets the story unfolds through the eyes of 'hostage' Paul. There is good character developement as this psychological novel progresses, Paul's pain ... ...cruelly dashes, and a roller coaster of despair, acceptance and fear. Annie's character swings unpredictably from sickly sweet to derranged and brutal, with her past unfolding through the pages of her journal.
This is not a jolly novel, the 'Misery' of the title mirrors Paul's predicament, but I read with a constant hope that things would turn out OK in the end. The newly typed pages of the captors enforced writting are tedious at times, as is some ...

Quick review of Misery - Stephen King
Actually, Misery could be much worse: it is mainly a boring and trashy story of mentally ill romance book fan dreaming of clean and beautiful world (interesting idea never really explored) and her obnoxious prisoner, a writer of bestsellers trying to outwit the sadistic romantic. Sounds interesting? A classic? More like classless. ...

Advantages: full of suspense, almost real Disadvantages: psychologically and physically very cruel - not for the faint-hearted!
Stephen King’s imagination is unreal. He has written so many horror books and still he can come up with better ones. I have read a couple of his novels, but I think “Misery” is one of the best and everybody should read this.

So what would you do handcuffed to the bed, with your loving dead on the floor and the telephone out of reach, and the nearest neighbours several miles away. Well unfortunately Jessie (the woman handcuffed to the bed) has to play through her past in her head, and struggle to get a glass of water off the shelf above her. If this angle was developed further in the novel rather than in the last few chapters it would have been a much more entertaining read.

Misery is by far my favourite book by Stephen King. It is very well written and although there aren’t many characters they are built up very well and it is easy to imagine that you are the writer who is held captive.
