...The Mio 168 Digiwalker from Mitac (please see my dedicated review for more information) doesn't come with bluetooth as standard, it's difficult to find an appropriate adaptor, and when you do, it's expensive. The relevant cables for both charging and synchronising your Mio 168 are included in the box, but these don't offer a very tidy solution- the ideal situation with a PDA such as the this, is to be able to simply plug it into your computer whenever ... ...package- you just slot your Mitac Mio 168 Digiwalker in (that is assuming you have already installed the synch software for the PDA according to its instructions)- the cradle automatically starts to charge your PDA, and the PDA and your installed synchronising software take control of everything else.
Breaking the connection is just as simple- just remove the PDA, and go.

The market for PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) with built- in GPS reciever is yet young, and it is this fact which makes the Mio 168 a rather nifty bit of kit.
Being one of the forerunners of its kind, the unit is remarkably well priced, although I would urge potential purchases to shop around- when I was looking, prices and packages varied wildly as the unit is not supplied as standard with any GPS software.
One thing which remained constant ... ...kit. This includes a USB cable for synchronisation with a windows- based computer; mains charger (with UK and European socket adaptors); car charger; windscreen mount; and storage pouch.
Having recieved the Mio 168 Digiwalker, setup and operation of the standard PDA/ Pocket PC features was simple: a quick-start guide is included as well as a comprehensive manual, and after flicking a switch and powering up the unit, the setup utility started automatically ...

Take the Mitac Mio. I like PDAs - they combine a media player (to play both MP3's and JPEG video), personal organiser, a gaming machine and several other items all in one. However, the sound quality of a PDA is not up to that of an Ipod. The video quality of a PDA is not up to that of a portable DVD player. Point made?
That said, if you are on a train it is awkward to carry an Ipod, portable DVD player, personal organiser etc ... ...for my requirements.
The Mitac 168 combines a PDA with a sat nav. system. And whilst the PDA is of inferior quality the Sat Nav element of the Mitac is most definitely not. It is on par with stand alone GPS units such as Navman, Tomtom etc.
The Mitac has a built in GPS receiver. If any of the readers of this review have ever had to sync an external GPS receiver to a PDA then they will appreciate what an excellent feature this is. I used to have ...

The Mitac Mio 168 really does boast in all aspects. Firstly, the Mitac Mio 168 was my second PDA, after being disheartened with my first ACER pda, I was rather disheartened by it's low battery life, and data beeing lost almost every week not forgetting it's dull and dismal screen colour and backlight.
Keeping the faith, and being recommended by a friend of the family "The Mitac Mio 168", really appealed to me after having a demo. It's main feature ... ...One Navigator. The Mitac Mio isn't only Stylish, and Sleek to withhold in you're pocket, but offers some nice tools and gadgets, obviously one being the GPS integration, and the others being the personal organiser, quick notes, office word and excel, and the MP3 player. Ideally, the device as a SD/MMC Slot for memory expansion, I highly recommend putting at least 2GB card in as it's worthy for MP3's, Videos, and just extra memory for the PDA to perform ...

Straight out of the box, the Mio 168 is a little beauty, a gem of design intergration of a fully functional Windows Pocket PC 2003 (Intel Xscale PXA-255 300 Mhz / 32MB ROM / 64MB SDRAM) with a SiRF compatible GPS reciever!! - very quick GPS start up time. Better than most GPS dedicated units, in my experience
Some PDA's are sleaker some are faster, but virtually no other model in this price range offers so much for so little. It can handle almost ... ...throw at it and together with the included car kit, have the perfect solution to the modern car - Total Satalite Navigation!!
I use my Mio every day and have never found it to be slow, even though i use fast technical equipment all day - it keeps up with the best of them! I also use mine as an MP3 player, as the SD/MMC expansion slot allows unlimited upgradeability and the installed media playback software with handle just about any format (MP3/MP4/WAV/AAC ...

The Mio comes very well equipped, but I found the windscreen attachment vibrated too much. I bought a semi-permanent dashboard fitting and I no have no problems. It also comes with a rooftop aerial booster, but I have not as yet needed to use this. The built in antenna has been more than good enough on its own.
The Mio can also ... ...carries out this function more than adequately. It has an infra-red transmitter and receiver, enabling it to talk to your PC, as well as a USB cable. Bluetooth would have been nice, but that is perhaps a little too much to expect at this price.
To summarise, if you want a great SatNav device, with the added portability of a pocket PC, don't hesitate. This device is well worth the money. ...
