Advantages Advantages Great design and exclusivity

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Weak automatic gearbox

I own a V6-24 on a 99/S plate. The car was purchased July 04 when it had 60,000 miles on the clock, it has now covered 96,000 miles. Reliability: If you exclude the automatic gearbox (see below), the reliability has been second to none. In the three years I have owned the car it has passed each MOT without fault, the only costs being incurred have been routine servicing and tyres. The ancillary electrical devices, such as windows, remote locking, CD, etc. have also continued to operate faultlessly. Automatic Gearbox: This is the cars Achilles heel, Mine has failed twice since I've had the car ... more

Advantages Advantages Decent spec and looks for not a lot of money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Everyone seems to like to dint the doors

As I travel in excess of 30,000 miles per year for work people scoffed at my decision to purchase this car stating Japanese and v6 and petrol and automatic blah blah blah. However having now owned two of these cars over the past 4 years (only because some kind sole trashed the first one on the M1 for me thanks!). I a, only pleased to say many positive things about these cars - 1) Economy I usually get around 28-32 mpg which is pretty darn good for a car of this size lugging me and the golf clubs and tools around. 2) Servicing touch wood had no real issues with either apart from the brake pads ... more

Ammendment to the ammendment can be found at bottom of review. On first glance the 2 star rating doesn't seem to add up does it but read on. I own 1998 'r' v6 24 auto Galant. It came with a full leather interior ( this is not standard but a £2000 option when new. The car also has power steering ,climate control and aircon. The temperature system, is electronically controlled by way of a small display in the middle of the dash, just turn the dial to the approriate temp and it will maintain it. It also has cruise control, electric windows, mirrors ( which are heated ) and seats,( both front ... more

Advantages Advantages Spacious, comfortable, well equipped, rear wheel arches intrude in cargo space

Disadvantages Disadvantages Costly to run, noisy, up to 80mph, then quiet.

I own a 1998 reg Galant Estate, I have had it for almost two months, it is obviously by no means new, it has done 51000+ miles, full mitsubishi service history, but missed its last service, now it is due a 54000 mile service, or will be soon, what a shock, £200 Cam belt change????, service, £340+ Vat, you cannot expect to have a big car, and then complain about the cost, that is part and parcel, and if you dont want to pay it, then dont buy it, but that is daylight robbery, spark plugs, platinum, £ 18.86 each, from motor factor, ie, Cafco, a guide only,Cam belt, £44, guide only, so why so dear ... more

    Advantages Advantages great looking car

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

What can i say about this car, appart from its the best lookin car ive had. Got the car 2 month's ago and cant stop looking at it, great to drive. Fuel is bad if driven hard round town, on a run its better than my rover 216sli. Did 224 miles on motor way filled up and cost me £24 to fill back up. Could not belive i got over 40 to the gallon (at 65 to 70mph). No hard accelerating just nice and smooth drivin. Would i sell the? nope great looks, always get people looking at it when driving around. Would like the car to have leather could always have it fitted. going to get criuse control fitted ... more

    Advantages Advantages Looks, economy, handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages tap tap tap engine ?!

I bought one of these ( the sport variant with rear spolier ) from an ebay auction June 2010 for the bargain price of £1000. It had done 76,000 miles and had been lowered about an inch and a half which gave it an amazing look ! After a few months of driving cross-country about 100 miles a day to work and back i noticed it was 'boating' a lot. I ignored this ( at my peril ) eventually taking this car to a garage. The front shocks needed replacing which was done relatively cheapy, also the brakes ( discs and pads ) were replaced all round. 6 months later the car needed MoT so I took it in only ... more

    5 Stars Legnum VR-4 23/04/2007
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Reliable, awesome handling rapid, looks amazing, practical. Overall good on fuel.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Loads if you don't look after it but that's your fault.

I have a Legnum (Galant Estate) VR4. It is the best car I have ever owned, looks aggressive, goes like stink, good on fuel if you're nice to it (30.6 mpg at over 90 mph on a motorway with AC on and loaded up). 4WD grip and every toy to keep you on the road. Just do NOT skimp on oil changes for AYC, transmission and engine. If you don't, it will be incredibly reliable. If you are getting an import, bear in mind they are used to running on 100 octane fuel so you should really buy 98 or 99. They can generally run on lower octane fuel, but it's probably not worth it long term. In the sportscar ... more

    Advantages Advantages very fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages drink's petrol

I owned one for a year great fun and very fast 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds and a nice big boot loads of room. on the down side if you have a heavy foot you could be doing about 15 miles to the galon.but one thing is the insurance is good as long as you have a cat 1 alarm. So if you drive slow great car all round and about 25 miles to the galon but way buy one if you don't drive it like it was made too. top speed is about 155 miles an hour and get's there in no time at all and dont foget its a 4x4 so it handals like a dream, most of the vr4 are a jap import when buying an import have a good look ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks great and is surprisingly quick.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy, uncomfortable, expensive to run, depreciation!

I have had my galant v6 sport automatic estate for 8 years. I still love the way it looks and its 0-60 of 6.5 seconds, but....and there are a lot of buts.....I hate the noise, the discomfort, the expensive low profile tyres and the servicing costs! Steering box packed up (£2,500) , water pump packed up (£400), alternator belt shredded (£10)! I dont like having to pay £80 every year to have leaves removed from the interior fan! Oh, and the clock has packed up. They want £200 to replace it! I can live without that. Tyres have been an issue...OEM Dunlops were crap. Tried firestone, better, then ... more

Advantages Advantages Will keep a smile on your face even when parked + too many to mention.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Thirsty. If heavy footed, even more thirsty.

I had an imported Galant VR4 Estate for over a year. Fantastic family car, the wife loved to drive it and almost drover it more than me. She managed to get near 28mpg, me nearer 22mpg with my all time low being 15mpg. Absolutely faultless, manufacturers standard although did upgrade brakes and disks. I ran mine on premium unleaded and stuck to the manufacturers service guideline of an oil and filter change every 7500miles. I would love another one and wish Mitsubishi made a UK VR4 or hadn't stopped making them. Awesome car. Mine was capable of exceeding 155mph however I couldn't confirm/admit ... more
