Advantages: a reliable, spacious 4x4 Disadvantages: can feel awkward at times
We are now on our second of these meduim sized soft roaders, and have never had any problems with them.
Smaller and less bulky than the grown-up shogun, the sport never the less has a good road presence. The higher driving postion, large but well styled mirrors and ample glass gives an excellent view of the road, both in front and behind (marred slightly by the addition of rear passenger head rests) with only a marginal blind spot on the rear quarter.
... ...of this sort. The torquey 2.5l turbo diesel is a good lump, paired to a fairly good 5 speed gearbox. Low gears have plenty of power, but this seems to have compromised top end speed (106 maximum on German autobahn's)..When cold the gearbox can be stiff, lumpy and uncompramising, but soon eases into a well workable transmission. Added to this the excellent transfer box, suppliying a flyshift option between two high and four high ratios under 60 mph, ...

Advantages: Good Looks / More than capable off-roader Disadvantages: "Agricultural" feel & Running costs
...the end of your journey. Mitsubishi claim around 27mpg sitting at motorway speeds for their diesel variants which i would agree with which on balance sounds quite economical for a big brute. However, I own a 4 litre petrol Ford Explorer (Yeh, ok It looks like a brick compared to the Shogun) which on the same journey returns just over 25mpg, and with diesel now costing on average 9p a litre more expensive than unleaded ,is a diesel variant now the ... ...its inbuilt compass in that it decided to read South when heading North etc. Ok this may only be nit picking and may not be of use to 99% of the general public but im from the school of "If its fitted then it should work perfectly, no excuses".Load space in the rear is good if not fantastic (More space available in the Ford Explorer / Land Rover Discovery / Toyota Land Cruiser) unless of course you opt for the 7 seat versions of these models (Except ...

Advantages: A Great Driving Position Disadvantages: Not Available in Auto Diesel
The first thing that struck me about the Shogun Sport - was its Sporty Looks, Having had 2 Fronterra's it was time for a change. Having liked Shogun's for a while.....but not having Shogun Money the Sport offered a good entry Level, and I personally think it is better looking than the Bigger shogun.
I purchased the "Warrier" edition in January this year in Silver - Nice leather Interior and Air Conditioning coming as standard.
16' Alloys and Auto ... ...having to pay extra for a Remote Central Locking and Alarm System.
The change for me to Shogun has been Fantastic - even though I have to driva a manual again after years of Automatic.
The Performance thus far has been great, it holds the road well in the wet - great on motoways and buzzes about town.
Fuel consumption is OK too, getting about 350 Miles to the Tank (about 60 litres).
For anyone thinking of making the change - Go For it, you will ...

I've had from new a Black Shogun Sport Warrior 2.5TD Dies Man since April 2004 - and I must I've been disappointed from the beginning. Here goes ...
First of all ...
I had to replace a front tyre (puncture) in May 04 - no problem you'd think .... No one in Birmingham stocked this size of tyre. Special order from Continental - 2-day wait. Really poor body work - didn't feel very well made - supported by the occassional little dent appearing as a ... ...Poor turning circle. Not a great deal of power. Drinks fuel - between 22 and 28mpg.
Poor spec inside the car.
Seats are uncomfortable.
And finally, this really topped it off - after 2.5yrs of ownership and less than 15,000 miles on the clock (mostly motorway driving) - I had to replace the clutch at a cost of £650! Was told by my local main dealer that it must be how I'm driving the car (they'd experience clutch replacements after 7500 miles). ...

I love this car!
The Shogun Sport is a powerful off roader but a bit more refined than the Shogun. A "Diet Shogun" perhaps.
It has quite a clunky appearence and while it has great road presence, this is due to it looking a bit mean and fit for purpose, rather than it having any great beauty!
The engine and 4x4 system are very effective and easy to get the benefit from but this car is built for power, not for speed. It will pull you up the side ... ...are not going to go very fast. I do not know whether this pay off is inherent in the nature of 4x4s or whether speed was just not very high on Mitsubishi's list of requirements but that is the choice you have to make with the Shogun Sport. I have not taken my car on off road tracks but we frequently drive in muddy fields or very eneven ground and I have never felt that it was really being tested. It has also been good for pulling horseboxes out of ...
