I first chose Monument as a credit card supplier as my husband had bad debt and as we are "financially linked" this rubbed off on my score too, and Monument were the cheapest that I could find to accept me. I started off with about a £500.00 limit, and within a year this had been raised to £3,000.00 - no questions, no "do you want a limit increase?", no "can you afford a limit increase?" (Beware - don't spend just because you have the limit!!) ...

although i have used this card quite often it hasn't always been a very good experience. I have had my credit limit increased without warning and in the other direction i have had my credit limit reduced without warning and only discovered the fact whilst trying to use my card, I would only recommend having this card if you are wanting a card with a low limit to improve your credit rating ...

Initially I got it for the 12 months interest free as I had a balance I did not want to pay off on another card. I have since cleared that balance and started to use the card in my everyday spending. My monument card had over £2000 credit limit. When I paid off the balance I expected a replacement card when the present card reached its expiry date.Weeks after I should have got the new one I explained this over the phone to 'customer service?' they told meTHEY had cancelled my account ,and couldn't give a reason? Then told me I had overpaid them. They owed me £85 and asked IF I wanted it paid back? If so, it would take a few weeks to do so! Yet I still get a statement each month showing credit limit. Balance owing £o.oo and £o.oo should be paid by ? I would tell anyone not to use them! ...

I must admit to being something of a rate tart. If I see a 0% APR for balance transfers, I'll jump at it. I also have had trouble with this company and they need to be reviewed by the standards agency as they always knew where i lived and state they received a payment in Dec 04 yet state i defaulted in Apr 06 . So if they new where I lived why didn't they say I owed them money or write instead of selling a debt, which they say is for £ 133.24 but with interest is now £944.32!!! Some £811 which the credit firm Cabot states I owe. So new Applicants beware and dont go and get yourself into debt with a Monument card , they don't have the decency to reply to requests asking for my statements , sincerely J Colquhoun. ...

I applied for this while shopping in Stratford Shopping Centre. Their Sales team was there and almost forced me to apply. They asked for any identification and used my debit card. Although my credit score was poor at that time, I got approved for the card at 19.9% with a credit limit of £1000. Their customer service is appalling. I felt that they just wanted to extort money from me. When I moved a broad last year they refused to send statements to my US address. I would advise never to enter into a contract with this company. I have experienced lies and rudeness from their representatives and believe in most cases the staff don't really know what they are doing with the exception of taking money from you. ...

If you have to make them a payment through standing order you need to call them and they would give you the correct details, but the payment needs to be named to Barclays Bank. I've been a monument customer for three years, and upto January 2006 never had a blemish or issue with the company and was overall v.happy. At the end of January i found my account has been used fraudently and reported this to Monument for investigation, this has been a nightmare and has been very badly handled by the monument team. At my first opportunity i will be ditching this provider and moving my account, the customer service was appalling ...
...20 minutes before the call being picked up... It's nearly 3 months since this occured and it's been a catalogue of screws up by Monument VISA... never again! My final comment would be to check that the provider has online capabilities which monument clearly do not have.. ...

i had monument for nearly 4 years now, they gave me a credit limit £2000 i was really impressed as i never did have that much on a single credit card, so i said to my self why not, i got my card and didn't need to used for nearly 4 months, after that i get married then i did used a lots, as it was so simple to pay by card and i said to my self it's ok i will pay it back. i did use all my credit limit, and then my wifw got pregnant and stoped working ...
...if they really exsist. most credit card got a web site monument does not. that explain all. be aware dont get to excited with £3000 credit limit as u can spend them in 1 day and u'll be spending 3 years to pay it back and u'll pay lots more. ...

This is a very easy card to get. Once I got it I spent up and then got myself into problems paying it back. There were over £ 600 in charges added to my account and eventualy they sent a bailiff. They do send out all the details of the default charges and costs associated with being a defaulter, but it was in very fine print indeed and I did not take the trouble to read it properly.
