Advantages Advantages About £5.00 a month. Increased "range" between refits.

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's not subtle you will see exactly what comes out in all it's glory.

Arooogha! Aroogah! Red Alert! Warning! = Read this before you read on! Right. Before we start I should warn you that this is a review about sanitary products. That means I'm going to be breaking the last taboo, yes, that's right, I'm going to be talking publically about periods. It's a long review, too so it means I'm going to be dealing with the subject for a long time which may be considered in poor taste. It also means I'm going to go into a higher descriptive level of anatomic detail than calling it my southern hemisphere so if you're a chap or squeamish, or both don't read this - although ... more

Advantages Advantages Environmentally friendlier, healthier, cheaper

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Messy

Warning: This review is not for the squeamish. It is impossible to write a meaningful review of this product without being graphic and blunt. There will be talk of blood, menstruation, messiness, toilets, pain and other generally unsavoury things. So feel free to move on without reading or rating if you're not feeling up to it. No offence will be taken. Still here? Ok, don't say I didn't warn you. I had heard of Mooncup a couple of times over the past few years - I'd seen references to it at Glastonbury festival and on the odd website, but I'd not taken much notice. Then one day I read a ... more

Advantages Advantages environmentally friendly, healthy, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages just not comfortable for me

Having just read a great review about washable sanitary pads, I remembered my experiences with another eco-friendly 'time of the month' aid, the Mooncup. I was happy to see that the other person who has reviewed this product got on very well with it, but I wanted to share my experiences to show the flipside of the coin. I'm going to be talking about periods and all related subjects in a frank and open manner, and I'll be referring to everything by its proper name, so if you're at all squeamish, easily offended, or a bloke, you might want to skip this review completely. You have been warned ... more

    Advantages Advantages Economical, environmentally-friendly, convenient

Disadvantages Disadvantages None unless you are ultra squeamish

Periods for me used to be a chore as I have very heavy flow and found that nothing protected me for long enough...until I found out about Mooncups. Should I get a Mooncup? Try this quiz: Have you ever... 1. Been out and about and realised you have forgotten to bring any or enough tampons or towels with you so you have to cobble something together with toilet paper until you can get to a shop, find a woman with a spare tampon, find a sanpro machine and the right change and then realise that you have just spent a fortune on a couple of tampons which are the wrong absorbency? 2. Leaked because ... more

I warn you now, if you are faint hearted or squeamish, you probably don't want to read this review. It's the type of product that necessitates some graphic language, and there are numerous mentions of various body parts and bodily functions throughout. The moon cup is one of those things that I’d read about on Ciao many times. Mostly the reviews were extremely positive, extolling the benefits of the mooncup, particularly in the areas of health and the environment. In fact, I don’t think that any of the reviews I’ve read on the product were negative. After reading these reviews, I would almost ... more

Advantages Advantages Safer, more comfortable, greener and cheeper

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a few goes to get the hang of it

***** Introduction ***** A year ago I was in the same position as I expect most of you reading this are now. I'd been using the usual tampons and towels period after period like the rest of you. So how did I end up writing about something like the Mooncup? I'd heard a little bit about menstrual cups here and there but being quite young at the time the little bit I knew amounted to the fact they were reusable (I didn't know why that was a good thing then) and that they make a mess when you empty them (not true in my experience). So I didn't think much about them for a while as the status quo ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheaper than conventional methods!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fiddly, painful, inconvenient, difficult to get clean.

The Mooncup first came to my attention after I saw a sign promoting it on the back of a toilet door at Glastonbury. Once I returned to civilisation, I searched for 'Mooncup' on google and instantly fell in love with the idea. Safe, clean, easy, environmentally sound - it seemed too good to be true. I was fed up with the expense and waste of tampons - I was ready to try something different. I ordered my Mooncup straight away - eager to try it! I wanted to be a part of the Mooncup revolution! What is a Mooncup? How does it work? The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup - which is designed to sit ... more

Advantages Advantages Environmentally friendly. Cheaper. Lowers risk of TSS.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uncomfortable to wear. Difficult to remove. Messy.

Like many women, I'd heard about the Mooncup and basically turned away squeamishly at the idea of using a menstrual cup - dismissing it as hippy-happy-clappy nonsense! The idea just has never been appealing to me....the idea of blood collecting in a little cup which you then pour away.....ugh! But my sister tried the Mooncup as she has allergies to the synthetic materials used in most brands of tampons and she convinced me to try it out. I thought it may be worth a go since the environmental benefits of using the Mooncup are clear, it would work out financially cheaper AND it would reduce the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Initial cost, Yuck factor

WARNING: If you don't like reviews with the odd bit of Yuck Factor (TM) or can't stand reading anything on how to deal with "your monthly visitor", then please don't read this review! You might like one of my other reviews though on such topics as food or booze (no offense intended). Firstly, let me say that I'm fully aware of the fact that there are already 20+ reviews for this product, but I'm hoping with my review to give a bit of information that isn't found in them and a bit of background on the history of this particular product. ****So what the bejebus is a Mooncup when it's at home ... more

Advantages Advantages GREENER, HEALTHIER, CHEAPER AND NO LEAKS!

Disadvantages Disadvantages TAKES A LITTLE GETTING USED TO!

MoonCup I remember very clearly the first time I got my period. I was 12 and totally unprepared. I'm 32 now, and have spent 22 years dealing with incredibly heavy periods with a combination of tampons and sanitary towels. Leakage has always been a huge problem and until as little while ago, I was simply resigned to the mess and the distress of my heavy, heavy periods. And then I discovered The Mooncup. Well, to be fair, my sister discovered it and in the true way of sisterhood, she told me all about it. The Mooncup is a wonderful and not at all new concept which has stayed well out of the ... more
