Illegal downloading is killing the music industry. Good. Kill the greedy buggers - they've been ripping off artists for decades and they used the invention of the CD as an excuse to fleece the British record-buying public out of millions of pounds. Good riddance to 'em. Mind you, we should be so lucky - they've been riding the gravy train for a long time and their snouts won't be removed from the trough without a struggle. In the 1980's we were told that "home taping is killing music" - was it bollocks. In those days, my friends and I often swapped tapes - let me tell you about one of them: ... more

Advantages Advantages Free Mp3 downloads, cheap online CD prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Artists out of pocket??

The debate between the Music Industry and the Internet has been on-going since Shawn Fanning (a university student at the time) first developed Napster (A music community for sharing MP3). The Internet has certainly raised a lot of issues since it's existance. Internet pundits had raised issues on politics and pornography to great length, but it was a suprise to most, that one of the most important issues would revolve around a compression technology called MP3 or MPEG Audio Layer 3. Ultimately, we are raising 2 issues here: * The availability of illegal MP3s * Online CD retaliers purchasing ... more

It seams that the fight between the record industry and the internet will never come to an end. With the constant court battles between record company bosses and internet sites and the arguments between the artists and their fans what more could happen to add insult to injury and hurt the pocket of the consumer? Nothing you may think, well think again. A new action has now arisen in court over the ‘sourcing’ of products being sold on the internet. The action has been raised by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) against internet sites such as CDWow, Amazon etc. The whole legal thing over ... more

    Advantages Advantages None for us

Disadvantages Disadvantages We're buying faulty inferior music

The CD "Velvet Revolver: Contraband" (rebellious metal band again with Guns N' Roses members) I was otherwise looking forward to is a "copy control"/corrupt BMG distribution in UK shops and from CD-WOW! Of all their (Gn'R) lawsuits between Geffen and Axl Rose I've heard of (such as the Gn'R Greatest Hits giving a commercial image of the Gn'R band) they might have kept their own album playable for their fans. Of course many will still find the choice of three album cover colours attractive... The higher the price, the less the quality strategy: Just an observation, I've heard three versions of ... more

The music industry is thousands of years old and still does not learn a darn thing! The latest target for the bile of the music industry is the Internet. "Napster, MP3, Media Player, all unfair. Blah, blah, blah, drone, etc. ,etc." But it has always been the same. The Internet has given the music industry more to chunter about, but it has always been the same. At one time the music industry aimed their attacks at the manufacture of cassette tapes. These were widely seen as being the spawn of the devil and would lead to the death of the music industry. As Winston Churchill might have said: ... more
