Advantages: Great video & sound quality Disadvantages: Poor stills
Before buying the Mustek DV 5000, I'd considered many other options of video camera, namely those that used mini-DV tapes. However, having done some research on the internet, I found that my PC wasn't compatible with that type of camera.
Then I came across the Mustek DV 5000. It had a good product description, looked like it had a wide range of features and was a very reasonable price. Best of all, it was compatible with my old laptop (I'm now on ... ...I find myself using my Mustek for video only.
MP3 Playback: To be honest, I don't use this feature. I've tried it, and it works, but as I have an ipod, I have no need of the MP3 player. It's easy to transfer the files from your computer, then you simply select the MP3 player option in the "FUNC" menu, and listen.
Sound Recorder: Again, another feature I've tried but never really used, the sound recorder is easy to operate and upload to your computer.

... ...MP3 music tracks onto the Mustek DV5000 from my PC (this is just a matter of opening the relevant windows and dragging and dropping).
They play via the external speaker (which isn’t very loud) or the headphones (supplied) which is fine.
We will continue to play with this amazing little device for some time yet and I will add any new thoughts to this review as and when they occur.
Oh and incidently, you know all this fuss about Pendrives, Jumpdrives ...

Advantages: Price, Features, AA Baterries Disadvantages: Picture quality is not accurate to what you see on preview screen
I have owned both the Mustek DV-5000 and it's predecessor the Mustek DV-4000. The main difference in the 2 is that the dv5000 can take AA batteries, so you can make sure you have battery wherever you are, and also the dv5000 has a flash.
When i read about the dv5000 coming out i couldn;t wait to try it, I got it about 1 week after release for £109, as it seemed to have all the features the dv4000 was missing.
After replacing my broken dv4000 (the ... ...is my take on the dv5000:
Pros: AA Batteries - So you never run out
Flash - great for night time
Higher Megapixel - Better Quality Pictures
Mp3 playback is good through the external speaker
Cons:
The image you see on the preview window, while lining up a shot is NOT what the camera actually takes. With the dv5000 they always come out a lot darker, with less image depth and vibrancy. This really really really bugs me, as i have to spend countless ...

The Mustek Dv5000 defintely is not something that apllies to the "you get what you pay for" attitude.
I bought this camera a few months ago as I had been looking for a small compact digital camera that mixed style with varying features. I picked the camera up for about £75 I think and I was very pleased when i received it. It comes with a mini-tripod, usb cable and all the necessary cables and software. When I first switched it I was expecting it ... ...for what it had for offer but i was proved wrong. This camera features and Mp3 player, digital photo function and digital video function. All with a very standard quality, it was very handy when i took it on holiday as i didn't have to carry around some hefty DV camera instead i could just slip this baby into my pocket and snap away whenever i felt like it.

Overall, the Mustek DV5000 is a good compact camera, and is good for taking some holiday snaps, but what it really excels at is the video recording. It has many functions and can fit very easily in your pocket. If you want to concentrate more on creating videos than anything else, and you want something you can take anywhere, then this camera is for you. If you want a decent stills camera, however, go with a Canon or a Konica Minolta. ...

I must however point out things that people would need to know.
Firstly the menu's and functioning is pretty easy and self explanatory with a little time spent figuring it out. Pictures in reasonable light, and close up are really good and clear, however, lighting is a definate problem. If the room is slightly darker, then the colour can come out quite dark and if it is too light, well, alot of the picture ... ...you take a lanscape shot, if there is any reflection (ie:water) then it overpowers the picture.
Another issue is the zoom. The more you zoom, the more unclear the picture.The video camera is really good, my only gripes are the zoom and the "clicking" noise of the zoom button. So if you loose the zoom, you have a pretty good video camera for short pieces.
Files transfer really quickly and easily to PC, and if you have a memory card you can print ...

Quick review of Mustek DV 5000
I bought this camcorder some 5-6 month ago, and I am quite satisfied wi it. It's great for starters and people who want to have something in memory. The pictures are sometimes blur, but sometimes they are great. The video, especially the 320x240 resolution with 25 FPS it's great, the sound is satisfactory, i bought 512 MB memory, and i can record some 1.50 hrs of video, or some 900 pictures with the highest quality. If you don't look for quality, but some mere device for snapping some videos or pictures to have them to remind you, this is a great device, and it really CHEAP. ...

...have to say that the Mustek DV 5000 is a smart peice of kit.
Videos, Pictures, Mp3, usb storage. The compact design is lightweight and palmsized so even a person with small hands can still use all the features of this Camera.
I mainly use mine for videoing my Sunday Morning football teams matches so we can have a permanent record of the match. on a 512mb memory sd card you will get approx 110 minutes of high quality video. I have no problem holding ... ...a time whereas I di with my old vhs camcorder.
also comes with a tripod which screws into the bottom of the camera and is excellent when using the timer function when taking pictures.
you will also get over 900 high quality pictures or over 7500 low quality pictures on one 512mb sd card, which is truely amazing for something so small.
the picture quality is second to none and when printed all the edges are sharp and crystal clear. ...

First saw this camera on a gadget shopping channel and thought that it was too good to be tru, looked at loads of reviews, and still thought that it was too cheap to do all it states. After being persuaded by my son, I thought i'd give it a try. It arrived, it fit into the palm of my hand, but I was still dubious. We have used it on a number of occaisions and it DOES do what it says it will. It will film approx 12 mins of footage when used as a camcorder. ... ...and it also records mp3's. The instructions that come with the dv 5000 are a bit complicated for me, but once you get to know the dv5000 it is easy to use. We learnt how to use it through trial and error. I would highly recommend it for short videoing, but you really do need a proper digital camcorder for long periods of filming. For it's money, it is worth every penny. ...

The mustek series cameras can also be used very easily as a webcam. The 5000 converts from mass storage device to webcam by a menu on the camera. The quality it provides as a webcam is simply amazing. ...
