    An event towards the end of last year has had deep effects on this year. My father died in November 2011. He died alone of a massive stroke. There would be no goodbye. Sudden quick death may be the kindest option for the deceased than a lingering illness (my dad wouldn’t have taken to being nursed and losing independence) but for loved ones it’s extremely difficult. My mother was ill with cance for years. It was heart-breaking witnessing her suffering but I was with her at the end and we said our goodbyes.     Advantages Advantages got into university, got a new job, got new friends and have an amazing boyfriend

    Disadvantages Disadvantages wish the year didn't start so bad for me to actually do something about it.

    My expectations 2011 was the most depressing time of my life where I hit an all time low so it's safe to say my expectations of 2012 were not great. I spent my year pulled into my parents arguments and suffered through their break up, my mother moving out, me being made to feel worthless, in a dying relationship which ended both dramatically and horrifically and ended up in a relationship with someone I barely new.     Advantages Advantages Great holidays and wonderful family

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The economy isn't helping some of my family

    My 2012 Highlights so far This has been a mixed sort of year for me as we have had two amazing holidays but also my step son was made redundant and my daughter’s partner has been told his job will be going too. STARTED WELL BUT.. We had the most wonderful family Christmas period with all of us together including my step children’s grandfather on Christmas Day. Everyone enjoyed it, the food was good and it was especially poignant as he died while we were away in Borneo and we arrived back just in time for his funeral.     Anyone who has read my reviews before will know that if I bring this review in in less than 800 words then that will be my personal highlight not only for this half year, but for every year of my 44 year existence. I am not used to writing short, to the point reviews, but as the saying goes you are never too young to start. This has been a difficult one for me to narrow down, not because I have that many too choose from, in fact rather the opposite is the case, but I guess for me the difficulty is in actually trying to prioritise ones achievements.     Those who are offended by material of an overtly religious or Christian nature may want to look away now. I am a born again Christian and my personal highlight of the year so far has everything to do with God's grace and power. My year didn't start terribly promisingly. At the turn of midnight, I was at my younger brother's wedding, surrounded by relatives who kept asking me when it would be my turn, being 4 years older and already in my late 30s without ever looking close to being married.     The last six months have been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. 2012 started well. By the afternoon of 2 January we were free of family in the house at last, in itself a cause for celebration. [Cue Basil Fawltyesque rubbing of hands and gleam in eye]. I returned to work the following day in fairly high spirits. Going back to the daily routine after two weeks off Christmas isn’t always wonderful, but last year I had a very stressful time at the workplace in which I feared my job might be on the line (long story).     My personal half year highlight of 2012 is that I have spent 7 months of the year pregnant with baby number 2. After having a weekend on the town starting 2nd December, the previous time I’d been out was in July 2011 for my birthday, I was in need of a good night out and had a great weekend. Come Sunday I was rough as anything, which is not like me at all. Still rough on the Monday and Tuesday, my partner told me to take a pregnancy test.     Disadvantages Disadvantages None whatsoever - I refuse to be beaten by a bit of rain.

    A wet holiday week in July, in which I've done so little, is a good time to look back at the bright spots. It's been a dark, dismal week. Except for Tuesday. On Tuesday the sun made an effort and we girls went to the beach. We walked along the front, ate chips, talked about our respective medical conditions and realised just how old we're all getting. We laughed a lot. Not least because you have to, when it's the youngest of you that has the most to worry about, and the eldest seems to struggle on regardless.     At the beginning of December, I purchased five CIAK notebooks. These lusciously leather-bound, captivatingly colourful little treasures were going to become my Life Books. Now, whether or not Life Books already exists, I'm not sure; perhaps I should look into getting the idea patented. It was just before making such a purchase that I had realised that I have, in fact, had a very blessed life, and that all of my negative days have been overshadowed by a wealth of experience.     This review is on my own personal journey during the last six months of the year, not that it will be of any interest to anyone on here but I still would just like to share some of my own thoughts of how the year has gone for me so far.
