Disadvantages Don't laugh, it may happen to you

This is a supposed "real" letter of complaint to NTL that has been doing the rounds on the internet for a few years now. As the 'free internet dial-up' catagory is applicable to the 'chaps' complaint, I thought it was a good place from which to share his thoughts with you. These do not vary a jot from the experience I had with NTL whilst trying to get them to install to our new house about 2 years ago. Advantages Fast, clean, streaming downloads and browsing.
Disadvantages You must live in an ntl serviced area.

Having read quite a few positive comments on ntlworld free dial up internet I thought it may be worthwhile mentioning that ntl also offer Cable Modem service to customers who are able to be serviced by their Cable TV service. Their deal is amazing. You can choose from a number of options and can rent or buy the modem. The deal is this. 1) Buy the cable modem at £149.99 and pay £9.99 per month for a 64k connection or £19.99 per month for a 512k connection. 2) Rent the modem for £5 per month instead of buying (ie £14.99 or £24.99 per month) You will have to pay £25 installation charge for the ... more

Disadvantages Expensive Customer Help Line, Must have an NTL phone line

I have had internet access with NTL for over a year now, I was lured by the promise of free internet calls 24/7, and whilst everything hasn't been perfect, I've certainly got a lot more than I paid for. The first thing to remember about NTL is the so called "free" internet access isn't completely free. You do have to be an existing NTL phone customer, which costs about £9.99 month, plus the phone bill. Unfortunately, if you do have any problems with installing ntl, or connecting to the internet, the phone number they give you costs £1 a minute! And if that's not enough.. Disadvantages Customer service, time to get the CD, connection speed...

My family recently got an ntl phoneline fitted and have finally received our CD-ROM in order to access the internet via their freephone 0800 access. It is good to have the free access so you can go on at any time of the day or night without having to worry about the call charges but you get thrown off after two hours or connection (though you can re-dial again straight away) and, if the connection is idle for more than 2 (yes TWO) minutes, then it disconnects you. Disadvantages You need to spend £10 on voice calls a month for it to really be worh your while

After the break up of Lineone and Quip's free internet call charges offer, I was at a bit of a loose end, as when I needed to access the net, I would have to time myself so that I didn't stay on too long. But then along came NTL World. It's a lot like the Lineone offer, you spend £10 a month on voice calls and you will get free internet access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When I signed up, I had a little trouble as our phone line was not configure right. Ntl world ISP is absolutly brilliant, we have had this now for over a year at home and it is the best one we have ever had, you get free internet use all the time, free 24 hours a day, although after 2 hours you do have to reconnect, however this is at no charge. So what do you do and how do you get it? Disadvantages Keep being disconnected, no dial tone occasions

I am a student at the University Of Surrey. Here we have a kind of pay as you go charge card which provides us with internet access as well as phone calls. The internet connection is good at 56Kbps but the service with it is rtubbish. For example; whenever you connect NTL disconnects you at least 2 times before you recieve a continuous connection The call charges are as follows, 3.5 pence connection charge then it is 1pence per min, every min after that. That means, inorder to get your continuous internet connection you must spend a minimum of 10 pence, with the additional 1 pence per min. The ... more

Disadvantages it can take a while allow 2 months for the recieval of the CD, also at present even though weve been told they are working on it i have to refresh my connection every 2 hours!

Hello everyone, go to www.ntlworld.com and get your CD through the post today. I pay £10 a month and for that I get free 24/7 internet acess with very good connection speed, plus £10 worth of free calls a month for no additional cost!! Amazed you should be. You dont have to pay for connecting to te local server and then to be charged per minute while your online! (PHEW!!) All I pay is £10 a month including the phone bill and you dont even have to change your phone number!!! Wow, my phone bils gone down by around £90 per month!! ... more
