...suffered a bad experience with NTL just over a year ago which has convinced me to steer clear of this service forever! Basically I ordered a broadband and telephone package from NTL which was installed with no problems. That was until I had to use the 'do it yourself' CD rom to install the broadband onto my computer. ...had enjoyed the reassuringly slower NTL service for some time, and had about timed making cups of tea and maybe the odd cake or two in the time it took to bank on-line. My husband rang them up about something mundane like the phone misbehaving, and was offered free installation of Broadband. ...and as we already had NTL digital TV and phone, the obvious choice was to get NTL Broadband. This was back when the lowest priced broadband was 150k so ahead we went at £17.99 per month, although it was only £8.99 for the first 3 months! ...at £29.99 a month. With NTL if you pick the ten times faster package you are £5 cheaper a month. Also BT charge for the modem which is £84.99. The two times faster package costs about the same as just 24/7 acces from most ISP companies out there so you might aswell go for that one. ...managed without any problems. Installing NTL software and setting up my PC for the internet was just as easy. I have had no problems with my connection whatsoever. As for technical support (which I've only used twice), I use the local call rate number I received when I first signed up. I don't use the £1.00 per min number quoted in the welcome message/e-mail. I've been with NTL Broadband for about 6 months now and ive been very happy so far. I pay 17.99 a month for the 150k speed and its more than enough for my needs. I got my first month free which seems to be an ongoing special offer. Its three times faster than your standard dial-up internet and you are always connected so you dont get frustrated trying to dial up and get a connection. ...one hour (as a paying ntl customer, of course) on the phone to a nice, helpful young man in Cardiff sorting it out. Then found that the webmail didn't work most of the time I needed it, and when I did, that it was still quicker to use my Hotmail account. Less than one month later ntl mucked up my billing, and then I couldn't raise ntlworld at all reliable for a whole month.
