    Advantages Advantages good value for money unmetered 24hours a day, £15 of free phone calls for BT customers in non-NTL area

    Disadvantages Disadvantages technical support at £1/min, response to e-mails is slow, communication between departments & customer service is poor, almost impossible to leave/end contract with NTL!!

    It is estimated that there are over 11 million home internet Users in the UK, that’s approx every 1 in 5 of the UK population is online. Whilst it is far cry from the online User statistics in USA where every 1 in 2 is online there is no doubt this trend is increasing, but can the Internet service providers (ISP’s) cope with demand?     I started 'surfing the net' with the preinstalled ISP Lineone when I bought my PC back in the dark ages of 1998. At that time Lineone were charging £10 per month with local call charges on top of that. My phone bills were regularly £300+ a quarter, at one point I was paying BT £140 a month! However they soon jumped on the unmetered access bandwagon with their Quip deal, £5 per month (yes you read it right) for 24/7 access. This ended in September of 2000, so I signed up with NTL.     Until about 3 months ago i had been with Worldonline. That was until i got an e-mail saying that the next time i connected i would have to re-subscribe for free to change to the new company that took them over (Tiscali). Well OK i thought. Anyaway, i connected then following day and sure enough up coms the new details page, excelpt it wouldnt let me enter my old worldonline username, so I was stuck without the internet.     NTL World, a great service at a very very low price. I aquired NTL world aound Feburary 2002 time, when I was moved to them from Cable and Wireless. When I first had NTL world, i was quite surprised to find that it was completely free, yet the service was excellent aswell. After this though, I suffered from many connection problems and despite VARIOUS emails to NTL, they only replied once, and this was in a useless email.     I have been using NTL for nearly a year now and I find it brillant, I have never had any problems with it and find it quick, easy and very efficent. As I am a student we have a special student deal that means we didnt have to pay an installation fee, we get free internet 24 hrs a day, telephone service, with calls 3p, 2p or 1p depending when you call and cable tv with 15 channels - all for £11.99 a month. I realise that many people dont get this deal but my opinion is on the internet part anyway so it really doesnt matter! I think that if you are a regular customer you can still have the ... more

    Having reviewed NTL's phone service a few years ago I have now decided to write another one, this time on my experience of NTL as an ISP. I first subscribed to NTL's broadband service when I updated my computer in 2002 and decided that I would like to transfer to broadband so as to end the high call charges I was getting every month on my phone bill and end my Mother's constant complaints that she couldn't get hold of me as the phone was always engaged!     Advantages Advantages Cheaper phone bills and has a TV listing facility that comes up on your TV

    My family and I have been using the NTL cable and TV internet service for about a year now and I have to say that other than the fact that our telephone bills are now SLIGHTLY cheaper, as a whole we are not terribly impressed. NTL DOES offer many fun and useful services through this facility, although we could give or take it all due to the fact that the service usally 'sticks.' Quite often, we turn on the TV, and cannot receive any channels or whenever we DO use the TV internet service, the pages often cannot load and we are then told that they have errored.     NTL World. Is it any good? Well, if you can’t be bothered reading this opinion, then yes, but it seems to depend on where you live and which server you dial upto as to the service that you get. Right, so what is NTL World? Well it is basically a ‘free’ ISP. Free is not quite right though. First of all, you have to be an NTL phone customer. If you are not, you can pay them a £10 fee a month for using this service. If you are an NTL phone customer, all you have to do is spend £10 in voice calls in a month.     ... I highly recommend it. I ordered my CD in December 1999, and received it during the second week of April 2000 - just a week after the service was (un)officially launched. Since then, I've enjoyed nothing but free, quality 24/7 internet connections. The service is reliable and fast. I've only on two ocassions been unable to connect for about an hour each time - pretty good going for a much over-susbscribed ISP in a ten month usage period.
