    Advantages Advantages Low income friendly

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor payment options

----Background---- As a student on a low income it can be difficult to take advantage of credit cards. I had a student card from HBOS (where I normally bank). I basically had it for travelling purposes and online shopping. I had a fairly low credit limit, reflecting my income, which I was happy with. I paid attention to a few financial advice programs and articles and I realised that I should look to take advantage of 0% apr balance transfers to maximise the limited funds I have. I discovered it can be difficult to acquire a new card, even with a low credit limit when you’re on a low income ... more

"Thank you for calling NatWest card centre, we are experiencing unusually high call volumes at present and as a result your call may be held in a queue, we do apologise for any delay this may cause but please be assured your call will be handled as soon as possible." This is the latest message you get when calling the NatWest card centre. They seem to be making it sound like it is unusual to be held in a queue. In the 14 years I have been a customer it has always been normal to be held in a queue for ages when I call. Frankly I find this latest message an insult to my intelligence. ~~~ The ... more

I have a NatWest Credit Card and i think its great! i am very dependant on it and it is accepted just about everywhere! the online website is quite easy to use. their online facilty is great. i check my balance and trasfer, etc all the time on the website. i did have a little problem a few months ago but i was refunded in full. but other than that one time i have never had any problems with the card - no mysterious money missing or unusual charges. natwest offers you the ability to apply for your account on-line. When you've completed it and clicked on 'send application' you get your ... more

Advantages Advantages Good idea, well layed out, very secure, GOOD BANK

Disadvantages Disadvantages Unbelievable painstaking, slow, unreliable

This review is not about the Natwest Card, but about Natwest Online Banking, a free service from Natwest that allows you to check your balance online and transfer funds. Let me start by saying that Nawest is an excellent bank, and I have never questionned using them. It's online service however, is so unbelievably bad. When I first joined NWOLB (no not NOB) I thought it would be great to keep up with my account without going to the local. Signing up wasn't instant, and they had to send me a pin, but it was simple. At first it was great. All I wanted to do was to check my balance now and again ... more

Advantages Advantages Convenience of High Street bank credit card for payments and cash withdrawals. Decent online facility.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor loyalty scheme value, extortionate charges.

I used this card for my first two years of Uni mainly because it offered AirMiles (1 for £20 spent excluding cash advances) I never had any troubles with wrongful charges or mysterious purchases but I did pay by no-nonsense direct debt. Rather perversely my housemate likes to refer to it as the male credit card. His reasoning is that The Littlest Hobo is featured in the advert and with that being for boys and Lassy for girls it becomes a masculine credit card. I’ve yet to see Lassy advertising plastic power though. I stopped using it because I felt that the AirMiles weren’t as good value as ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent on-line service, good for students, air miles scheme, helpful telephone service, sensible credit limits

Disadvantages Disadvantages High APR, high admin charges, trouble using it on certain websites

As the title suggests, you get a lot of positives and negatives with this particular credit card. I shall begin with what I see as being its most redeeming qualities, before explaining several factors that let Nat West down a bit on this product. Firstly, as most reviewers have mentioned, you receive air miles - 1 mile for every £20 you spend, in fact. This is a good bonus for spending Nat West's money, although you have to spend quite a bit before you can pack your bags for Australia! Secondly, and I must disagree with certain reviewers on this issue, they have a very helpful telephone ... more

    Advantages Advantages really good

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

What would I do without my Natwest card, I have become so dependent on it that it’s like my best friend. I, take it everywhere I go. It’s accepted in every shop, so I’m free to spend. I can spend up to £750 before I am in the red. Then every month they send me a bill, where the minimum payment is £5. Not bad. I would recommend it to every student, as long as you’re sensible and can afford to pay it back then go for it. When you join up you get a really good free gift like a pager etc. It means that I don’t have to carry cash around with me so there’s no ... more

Advantages Advantages Good loyalty scheme, if you collect air miles elsewhere

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bad loyalty scheme if you dont

Well, for a start, i bank with Natwest and they are brilliant. Their range of services and products is fantastic, their online banking is great and they are always willing to help me. So naturally i decided to get thier visa card, which was the first credit card i had. Looking at it now, after trying several different credit cards, it's not quite so impressive. Thier interest rate is 14.9% on purchases which is way higher than my other credit cards. Cash advances are also pretty expensive, they charge you 3% of what you withdraw out of a machine/from the bank, with a minimum fee of £1.50 and ... more

Advantages Advantages Air Miles, low APR, excellent serive, accepted everywhere

Disadvantages Disadvantages Do need to spend quite alot to get the Air Miles

I have had a Natwest Card for a little over one year now and i can honestly say that it has been excellent. It was my first time applying for a credit card and the bank were really helpful. They even helped me fill out the form. I was a bit worried about whether i would get a card but it turned up in under two weeks. The main reason i chose the Natwest card was because i have banked with them all my life and it seemed logical to get a credit card with them aswell. It also offered a low APR (the lowest i could find anyway) and the free Air Miles. It was extremely helpful on my gap year i ... more

    Advantages Advantages accepted everywhere

    Disadvantages Disadvantages customer service

Earlier this year I received my credit card bill and to my horror I found that I had been charged interest for failing to pay the full amount on time. So I went to visit my bank, spoke to them and saw that the money had indeed come out of my account on the day my credit card bill was due, however a cheque will take 3 days to clear even if the account is held at the same branch! So the bank took my money out of my account, earning interest on it in the process, then proceeded to charge me interest on my credit card as I hadn't paid my bill even though they had taken my money! So I spoke to a ... more
