A to B the Easy Way - the Navman iCN 520

Advantages: Small, portable, reasonable price
Disadvantages: 5 character post code search; windscreen reflection

...a significant consideration, with the Navman coming in at a very reasonable £299 from PC World online (£285 after my company voucher discount scheme). This is for the UK version which includes all UK roads and the major routes of Europe. Additional EU country maps can be purchased for £70-£99. The Navman unit is also available in a 'Premium Edition', which just includes all the maps of 16 European countries included on CD and a remote control for ...
...Certainly more features than the Navman but also pricier. Garmin have been in the navigation game for many years with a great many specialised units for walkers, boats, planes, cars etc. Garmin have some new units, roughlly the same size and shape as the Tom Tom Go. They have the same issue of portability and also are more expensive again. Map displays are the best on the market at present. Features are slightly less than the Tom Tom and about on ...

"Lost Time is Never Found Again..."

Advantages: DriveAway, Downloads available, Blackspots,
Disadvantages: Postcode not 7 characters, no live Traffic information

...System ------------------------ Tom-tom and Navman seem to be the two main suppliers of in car navigation systems available at present, and both are rapidly gaining in popularity. A colleague of mine also had a Navman which he had raved about, and like me spends a good deal of time on the road between our hotels. The Navman units typically look a little sleeker than their tom-tom counterparts. They have a vast range of navigation systems as well ...
...their website www.navman.com The Navman iCN 520 system I chose is described as a Drive-Away system, meaning it is extremely simple to install and use. It also has Back-on-Track routing, which no navigation system should be without, in my opinion! Like many of the systems available, this system is easily transferable from one car to another, which was also an important consideration for me, as the first car I have is a temporary vehicle. When I bought ...

Are we there yet? Navman iCN520

Advantages: Lovely maps and Intuitive
Disadvantages: 4-digit Postcodes and POI alerts are just not good enough

...I really like about the Navman i520 software is the ability simply to draw an “avoid area” directly on the map screen encompassing places that you want to avoid and the route is planned without passing through it. This is great if there are roadworks or your local knowledge about roads in your area allows you to plan a better than the SatNav when left to its own devices. The iCN 520 uses the same “camera food” as my Vivitar 5355 – SD memory cards ...
...I could load onto the Navman iCN 520 and this both cured the POI alert problem and provided me with full 8-digit postcodes for locations. The Navman iCN 520 maps are more detailed than provided by the Tom Tom and your current location is quoted as both a street number and name which is quite impressive but for its other shortcomings. I bought the Navman iCN 520 at a cost of £175 when they were new which compared very favourably with the £300-odd ...

Navman and friends comes out on-top

Advantages: On board Battery, Size, Functionality
Disadvantages: 12 channels, sunglare, non 7 digit postcode finder

...at Tom Tom One and Navman ICN520. The difference between the two is that the Tom Tom One uses 20 Channel GPS compared to the Navman which has 12, and that the Tom Tom One has 7 digit post code finder. So looking at the black and white, the Tom Tom One wins.... well actually not for me. Hence my title, "Friends" see, there is software out there that can make the Navman search for 7 digit postcodes. Not only that, but as the Navman runs on Windows ...
...DC power!!, no problem, the Navman has a battery that when fully charged can last up to 10 hours, and with the headphone socket I can hear via headphones where i need to go!! The Tom Tom One's battery lasts an hour to two at best. Other makes don't even have batteries and or headphone sockets. Continuing with the friends theme, when you get the device it is straight out of the box, warm up and works! Great, but when you need additional maps the ...

Navman goes all round

Advantages: touch screen and keys, differnet route settings, simple to use
Disadvantages: bad night mode, 1 route at a time

The navman ICN 520 sat nav is a basic sattelite navigation system(sat nav) that is for those who do not drive a lot and want a simple to use and basic sat nav. Its mainly operated via the buttons on the right hand side of the screen but tries to incorporate a touch screen. The good thing about this sat nav is that it is not just a touch screen so for those drivers who may not be used to a higher level of technology it is very easy to use. I first ...

Overall this sat nav is very easy to use and is welcoming to users of all ages from the younger generation for which a touch screen has been incorporated, to those who are slightly older for which the buttons on the right hand side make navigation around the sat nav easy. ...

Navman ICN 520

Advantages: Simple to operate. Very easy to listen to. Reliable and robust
Disadvantages: Struggles to find GPS points sometimes when starting

I brought this on a wim last year about November time. My wife was going to the theatre in Ipswich with two other women. She is awful for directions so to ensure she returned safely I brought this. It was on sale at Halfords for £179.99. I thought this was cheap as they are usually in excess of £200. It was easy to set up and the controls are very simple. You have the option of selecting a tutorial on the screen and it saves you having to flick ...
...stand. We prefer to take the Sat Nav with us when we arrive. It goes in your coat pocket easy. My wife tried it out and had problems getting a GPS fix. It seems our Focus C-Max affects the GPS because of the heated screen. I found out through reading the manual that you should use a external aerial wish they warned you about that. Also the suction holder was rubbish due to the slope of our windscreen. I found it was better to turn it on before ...

Good little satnav

Advantages: its a at nav
Disadvantages: Its a satnav and the voice is annoying

This is the first sat nav i have used and found it to be very good in general. The good points are that it is easy to navigate the screens and does not take long to locate a place. There are various views you can use and you can even turn the annoying woman off by turning the volume down yipee. You can save you regular locations you travel to in your favourites which i think is a good idea. You can view your route and even projected fuel cost. changeing ...
...whetheryou want the quickest or cheapest route. and various other options like prefernce for a roads b roads etc. it comes with an add on disc of europe. you can navigate your route bu using the direction pad or add extra stops to your route. Now for the bad parts you must upgrade the maps or you will go around in circles most of the time. For this you will need a new memory card as you only get a paltry 64mb you really need 256mb minimum. good ...

Navman ICN520

Advantages: Quick and easy to use, with clear buttons
Disadvantages: Sound isn't loud enough

I Purchased the Navman back last year, from halfords for a heafty £249.99. But i have to say I have never looked back. Advantages: Quick and easy to install, i'm a women and managed to do it with no help, all I had to do with it was plug it in. The screen and navigation keys are very easy to use, and very clear, makes getting around the system alot easier. The map display is great, and yet again very clear, also has a Point of Interest option on ...

Quick review of Navman ICN 520

Nice slim design, and easy enough to use. However, I would not regard it as a particularly good sat nav for the following reasons: (a) the ICN 520 recognises three kinds of roads - motorways, A roads, B roads. It does not distinguish between a B road that is two-lane and average width, and a B road that is a 6 foot wide dirt track. So check before following advice to take a turn! (b) The feature to "go to centre of area" often results in being taken into the middle of a field (yes, really). (c) The postcode function only allows the first half of the code to be entered, which is fairly useless. Adequate, but there are many better units available. ...

Naveman is helpful

Advantages: Does what it is designed for!
Disadvantages: some complications

general this product does what it is set for. type in your address and let naveman do all the routing for you. you have the option of choosing the type of route you prefer to drive on. for example quickest or motorway road. the quickest route is excellent to one extent but it tends to make you warey because itr does take you through ackward backstreets. i dont mind this as it is better then waiting in a london traffic jam! the product itself is ...
...love then pen that comes with it for the touch screen function! however there are only three downfalls i've experienced. 1) the GPRS sometimes goes funny on you whilst driving. maybe the area's dont allow clear reception, and frankly i dont know why this happens. 2) whilst driving on odd occaissions the naveman has lost its way! how werid is that????? but within a few seconds its back on track. this can be frightening espcially if you on a long ...

a bit obsolete

Advantages: size, weight, battery
Disadvantages: hard to read maps, long time to get GPS signal

I have owned the Navman 520 for around a year. This was the first GPS system I have owned and I can say now that it is a bit out dated… the maps are hard to read unless you have map reading experience… I have also noticed that to get a GPS signal can take some time (around 5mins sometimes). If you are thinking of buying a new Satnav, go for the new TomTom1, its much better and gets a better signal faster. The maps are also better and the voice directions ...
