Advantages: Currently free on Pay As You Go! Amazing images & features. Disadvantages: Navigation needs some getting used to.
...ABOUT THE NETWORK
This NEC phone is a so-called 3G (third generation) mobile. It uses an updated SIM, called a USIM (duh!), and expands on the 2G mobiles we've been using since analogue phones were phased out. The most obvious advantage is video calling, but other services - movie clip downloads, A to B maps and so on - are new twists in the world of interactive mobile phones.
The only network to offer 3G technology at the moment is Three. Coverage ... ...you have.
-> NEC e808 VS THE COMPETITION
There are currently only three 3G mobiles available in the UK - two of which are made by NEC. This e808 is the largest, and it originally retailed for £449. Now a new model is due for release, the e808 is already discontinued - hence the amazing free/£20 offers that are now abundant all over the internet.
It makes sense for Three to sign up as many people as possible - after all, for a video phone to be ...

nec e808
So far, I love this phone! Okay, details. I got the grey/brushed aluminium look phone (known as the Champagne model)- much better than the black one IMHO. Bought mine through a direct mobile phone company, who were quite responsive and threw in a free minidisc player, so all good. Out the box, it was simple as inserting sim, and I was up and running within 20 minutes. The phone is reasonably large, but feels much like my wallet in my pocket, ... ...Also, unlike with the NEC e606, you *dont* get two batteries. Fortunately the 808 has a far better battery life than the 606!
Pricing
-------
Currently, this is free on a 750 minute contract- and at £35, that's cheap! Most online operators will probably throw in a freebie (minidisc player in my case), or cashback etc. Interestingly, this includes a year's handset insurance, making it great value.
Incidentally, if you consider three, but find ...

Having been a hardened fan of Nokia phones, and a committed Orange customer, the chance of me moving networks was slim until I received my last phone bill. That was enough to drive anyone on, particularly with the shining option of 3s £35 per month any time, any network deal. They were even prepared to give me a second handset on pay-as-you-go for free. What a deal. Slowly though, a few problems became apparent. But first the basics:
Appearance:
... ...be carried around in a handbag hence most men I know dont like it. In fact it generally looks fairly feminine as it folds up like a powder compact (I have it in black). Even with its size, I would describe it as a sleek looking phone.
Battery:
Poor, poor, poor, poor. I am not yet convinced it actually has a battery all the time with the amount of charging I have to do. I charge it over night, I charge it in the office, and yet, when I go out ...

Advantages: You probably won't loose it, cheap Disadvantages: Can't list them all, generally not very good
To be honest, i would not recommend this phone to anyone, it's pretty rubbish. The advantages are that it was very cheap at the time, and for £50 (or free as it was) you can hardly complain. I would, however, expect it to work most of the time. Spec (What there is of it!): Screen: Large but with low pixel and colour count
Memory: 64mb
Camera: 2x with 2x zoom, but small poor quality pictures
Battery Life: 3 Days Stndby, 3 Hrs Talk Time
Features: ... ...Clock, Text Notes, Currency Calculation, Address Book.
I might as well list the advantages that i can think of, but the list is nowhere near as long as the disadvantages.
It does have 64mb built in memory, which is quite a bit, unless you want to start loading loads of music onto it (which I did) so you can have up to 700 messages in your inbox, and 700 in the send items folder etc. I suppose having two cameras is also an advantage, saves having ...

Advantages: free to get with pay and go, good functions Disadvantages: size, camera images blurry
To me the idea of a mobile phone needing a camera has always seemed like a streaker/stripper needing a changing room. It's a bit of a futile gesture. There is more to go wrong with the phone for a start. This coupled with the fact that the images are usually of very low quality. and the only thing you can do with them is send them to others, it's pointless.
Why don't people get digital cameras, which is my first problem with this phone. There are ... ...and the menus are too vaguely named for example media. What is that supposed to mean, it could be anything. The phone is designed for the 3 network, but is currently slightly dodgy as the network can cut out at any time.
That said though the phone is quite useful considering it is the size of 2 nokia 3510's side by side at its smallest. It has a full keypad and predictive texting ability. The buttons are easy to use and are not so small that it ...

Advantages: Memory Size, Video Call, Ease of Use, overall functionality Disadvantages: quality of pictures taken by camera, relative size
...phone to play. The NEC file transfer software is easy to use and within minutes you can be playing your fav tunes and watching clips found on the net. Resizing pictures for the phone has proved a little tricky but I'm working on that and many pictures have loaded quickly. The menu function is a doddle to use and makes learning how to use the features a synch. Size of the product was a consideration over the e606 - but now I have the e808 I really ... ...It has actually turned out to be a lot smaller than I thought it would be and the weight is not uncomfortable. You are advised to wear the headset when making video calls as the sound is not too good without it (mainly becasue the speaker is on the back of the screen section. ...

Advantages: ... has camera... Disadvantages: Large in the hand. Keys not user friendly.
This is the worst handset made by NEC!
First of all, the syncronizing software. It doesn't have a very professional look but the idea is nice. You can do some Sync by cable but the setup the .VFC file cards to transfer to your contact list. It doesn't sync directly with Outlook or with the MS Phone book.
But going back to the File Transfer, we know that it get improved on the later versions.
Regarding the handset... the look isn't the best. Very ... ...recomended to ladies who have a purse as a companion.
The GUI is sad, looks like the old Basic Spectrum micro-pc's. But there's good stuff on it. The Java was the highlight in this mobilephone and the camera feature is one of the good things, with a good video resolution.
My last opinion regarding this handset is... Very interesting... NEXT! ...

Advantages: Three network is cheap Disadvantages: phone is v big!
I got this phone free on contract along with a free dvd player from the net. I was a bit disapointed with the size as it was quite bulky. The three network however is very competitive with a tariff for every budget, however if you have to call the helpline I think it goes through to a different country and it is difficult to understand the person on the end of the line! It is quite weird getting used to using it and it can be quite slow in a computer ... ...for a day or two at most, if you dont use it! The phone does however have a lot of features including, sms, picture and video messing, however you can only send pictures or videos to other 3 customers at present. It has a camera option for recording 12 sec videos or taking pictures and you can reverse the camera and take a picture of yourself! It also has a calender, todo section, alarm clock, calculator, currency conversion and the ability to create ...
