Advantages: Extra nectar points, good APR Disadvantages: Not accepted everywhere
...decided to apply for a nectar card. I never realised how many places you could earn points from and what the points could be redeemed against.
Included in 'normal' shops there are several online Nectar E-stores. I love internet shopping and would much prefer to do most of my shopping online - away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The number of E-stores is growing all the time and now includes things from leisure to finance to music ... ...noticed the Nectar credit card on the Nectar website. I used to be a sceptical of credit cards - if I don't have the cash then I won't buy. However, carrying a lot of cash and getting mugged whilst on holiday soon put a stop to that! I have now been totally converted and never carry cash. It is not uncommon for me not to even have enought to buy a packet of chewing gum. All I need to know is that whenever I go out I have access to a stupid amount ...

American Express Nectar card
Whoever decided that it would be a great idea to combine an American Express credit card with Nectar points knew they would be onto a winner. Probably half of the nation has either had or has a nectar points card, and every time you spend money in certain shops, like, Adams, Debenhams or Sainsbury's, to name a few you get points for every £1 you spend. Great idea. But to get double points why not use the American Express ... ...But if you have a nectar card and its registered online, did you know that you can use your card in the nectar e-stores and earn even more points?
This is a great site, as the retailers on this site offer more points by purchasing goods via them, but by using the American Express Nectar credit card as well, you earn even more, there are a lot more nectar stores on this site, including stores that don't advertise that you can earn nectar points with ...

I applied for my Nectar credit card by American Express online. The online application form was extremely easy to fill out and although you don't get an instant decision I received my credit card through the post about three weeks later. Like all credit cards nowadays the card is chip and pin and I received my pin number under seperate cover to lower the chances of fraud.
The credit limit i received with my card was huge which can be a plus or minus ... ...no annual fee on the Nectar Credit Card.
Another plus point is that the card is issued by American Express who are a huge company with a proven track record. Anytime I have phoned with a query the staff have been very helpfull. You can also set up a password to check your account online and set up payments etc at www.americanexpress.com

Advantages: Builds up Nectar points for assorted goodies. Disadvantages: Cannot be used everywhere.
The Amex Nectar card. Get the forms from Sainsburys (a main Nectar point supplier) or apply on line but remember to get a Nectar card as well to use with it. All the points get transferred onto the Nectar card.
The Amex Nectar card can be used like a normal credit card in shops but, BE AWARE, there are a number of places that dont accept Amex. In Sainsburys you get nectar points for your purchases which go straight onto your Nectar card. Then Amex ... ...Once you registrar just the Nectar card make sure you get registered with TNS (available via the web site) you'll get 100 points just for registering, then more points when you take surveys with them.
You'll get offers for surveys every few weeks or so. They are often about 20 mins long but, even if you are screened out, you still get points (Which should be your aim).
Obviously there are a number of uses for the Nectar points. They mount up quite ...

...my Egg card to the Nectar AMEX in Nov 2005 and, when I realised that the 5.9% for life rate applied for up to 3 months, I then transferred the balance of my two other cards as well. The entire amount transfer to the AMEX was just over £6,000.
Imagine my surprise when the following month I logged into my online statement to find that the interest on my balance transfer was being charged at the purchase rate of 12.9%. February's statement arrives. No refund, but - oh joy - my interest rate is now correct and I am being charged the right amount each month. However, when I ring the call centre in India and speak to yet another manager I am told that, although there is a note on my file that a letter has ...

Advantages: Good reward system, nice looking card too! Disadvantages: Some places don't take AMEX (see the tip in the review to overcome this)
Being a scarily obsessive Nectar points collector, this card was always likely to be my 'flexible friend' (hands up if you are old enough to remember 'Access'!) after Barclaycard stopped giving Nectar points as rewards.
Being somebody who always pays credit cards off in full each month, there's little point me having a card with no loyalty or cash back bonus. This card hits the mark though, with a return of 1 point per £1 spent on all purchases ... ...I'm an 'obsessive collector' of Nectar points and have to admit that I haven't spent any of my points since the scheme started, so I've got a fairly healty balance. Eventually, I'm aiming to buy a new TV with my points, either from Argos or Sainsbury's. Having said that, there are plenty of treats that can be purchased in any Sainsbury's store just by handing your Nectar card over (1000 points = £2.50). For me, saving is better than spending, but ...

Quick review of Nectar Credit Card from American Express
I am delighted with my American Express Nectar Credit Card as I am able to shop on line and at various indicated shops and get nectar points.
But, there is a big HOWEVER. When trying to access the website it is impossible to get further than the log in page. The site keeps taking you round in a loop. This is not an isolated case, as this has happened to me on several occasions and up to now I have not been able to monitor my credit card account on line. ...
