...don’t thrill me
I received my Netgear DG834GT 108Mbps wireless ADSL router free with my Sky Broadband unlimited download package; when I learnt I would be receiving a free wireless router I was quite excited as I already had a router I had purchased for my previous network with another ISP before I moved. However I decided to go with Sky in my new home and awaited my free Router.
What you get
When it arrived I unpacked it; it is an attractive ...

Advantages: Easy to use, good security features, lots of extras for thse who want to use them Disadvantages: Not the cheapest, documentation might not be great in the event of problems
I bought the Netgear DG834GT after having been a happy customer of the non-wireless DG834 for many years. I needed to upgrade to wireless after buying a Nintendo DS and a Sony PSP.
I was hoping that my previous good experiences with the DG834 would carry on with the DG834GT and I was not disappointed. The web interface is simple to use and very
similar to the one I was used to on the older model. Setting up was just a few simple clicks. I chose ...

When I first took the router out of the box I was impressed to see the number of ADSL splitters I got with it, (three in total) but for now I only needed the one. Setup was what I would call 'normal' - Plug in the mains power and plug in the supplied RJ11 phone cable to the splitter. Then either hook up a computer via an Ethernet cable or hook up through a wireless connection. Another few mins ...

Wireless woes Review ofNETGEAR DG834GT 108 Mbps Super G Wireless ADSL Router - wireless routerby

Advantages: Good quality, easy to configure, plenty of features Disadvantages: Did not get the speeds expected
...at the time chose the Netgear DG834G (please see my review on this model for full information). Having bought around 100 of these models we have now had 5 fail for various reasons. At this point I thought it would be prudent to have another look at some of the other models available. As well as this Netgear model I have also been looking at the Linksys WAG54G (again a separate review).
What I was hoping to achieve from this review was something ...

Some people have found that not hiding network name, choosing an lower speed, lowering encryption security seems to help but I'm of the opinion that it ...

Advantages: Very Relaible Disadvantages: Drops out if your ADSL has a low SNR ratio
For the record i am a technical person so for me some of what i needed to do wasnt all that much of a chore but i hope this all helps you with your purchase.
I have BT Broadband and i live close enough to my local exchange to get a the 1mbit service.
I previously connected with a BT Voyager router and had no problems, so one day i decide to go wireless and put my faith in a trusted brand such as netgear.
Once i received the router i unpacked ...

Advantages: 108 mbps speed and 100mbps built in modem Disadvantages: overheating and poor range
Netgear, being a fairly major company when it comes to wireless networks have certain standards expected of the concerning their products. Therefore, after aquiring my DG834GT super wireless router with built in modem (large title...), i felt somewhat dissapointed with its overall performance, especially considering I forked out £80 for it (althogh it came with a wireless usb adapter too).
After setting it up, which was not too hard at all, i was ...

samwest2008
Advantages: Small and neat and easy to set up Disadvantages: Had to be hard reset
I bought this router to replace my old wired one through Virgin media for £40.
It arrived within 2 days of ordering over the internet. It came in a small box and was neatly and safetly packaged. This is one of the easiest pieces of equipment I have ever bought. All I had to do was put the CD into my laptop drive and it popped up with the instructions step by step. It went right from the basics of where to plug each cable in.
It powered up fine ...

...sky on the front where netgear would be.
The excellent thing about this router, is it's ability to hold on to low noise margin connections. Where I live, we get a terrible noise margin on our lines. Usually this would lead to the cutting out of internet. But with this router, it managed to keep locked on without dropping until it got to about 5db noise margin.
The web interface is easily accessible through a web browser, like all of the other ...

Good range of security options - Security is a key benefit of a router over a plain broadband modem, and is especially important if you are using the wireless functionality. You do NOT want to be connecting to your bank account wirelessly from a laptop and have someone else packet ...

Advantages: fast, easy to set up, good signal strength Disadvantages: slightly more expensive
This was my first wireless router and i have to say i found it all a bit confusing with all the different types of router out there ones with modems ones without, adsl, cable etc etc.
This router is for people who get their internet access through their phoneline and not from telewest or ntl.
It has a built in modem and comes with a usb wireless adaptor so it has everything you need.
Setting the router up was so suprisingly simple after all ...

Advantages: Fast. Easy to steup. Small. Amazing wireless and wired connection reliability. Disadvantages: No power switch. Out of Box Firmware has a bug that can obstruct connection
While this router is an absolutly amazing piece of equipment, it has one flaw that it comes with right out of the box. It is easy and fast to setup and needs little, if any, manual tweaking. It comes with a full built-in firewall and wireless protection, and is easy to setup ports/DHCP/NAT etc. But this bug, which isn't a huge thing, can cause a lot of problems. Unfortunately to fix it you would already need an internet connection or to know someone ...

...problems with setting up the Netgear DG834GT.
Worked well for about 3 months then the problems began. Even though the DG834GT was only run for a few hours in the evening and at weekends I found it got rather hot. It also dropped its internet connection which became more frequent and more annoying. Eventually after about 6 months of limping along it packed up completely and I went to a different system.
I am not alone in my problems, (That is ...
