Advantages: Does wonders for your scalp Disadvantages: Pricey and not great for hair
For some weeks I'd been having an annoyingly itchy and flaky scalp, but no actual dandruff. I don't know why I just carried on using a normal shampoo for such a long time, and then suddenly remembered that there was half a bottle of T Gel Dermatological shampoo in the bathroom cabinet that would surely be worth a try.
Unfortunately I had not kept the outer cardboard box, which seemed like unnecessary extra packaging. I say unfortunately, as the ... ...read the white lettering on the outside of the bottle against the dark brown colour of the shampoo. But as the level of the shampoo goes down, you find yourself trying to decipher white words on a transparent background, through which you start to see back-to-front words on the other side of the bottle. I gave up. Why don't the manufacturer's dispense with the cardboard box and use an adhesive label on the bottle itself, rather like Herbal Essences ...

T/Gel is a Neutrogena brand product, which seems to ensure it will be more expensive than other brands owned by the parent company, Johnson & Johnson. A 125ml bottle comes in at £4.28 from Tesco. It seems there are quite a few varieties of this treatment shampoo available nowadays, and also some conditioners. This band varies in colour depending on the particular variety of T/Gel you choose. I came across Neutrogena T-Gel Anti-Dandruff Dermatological Shampoo, whilst on one of my regular visits to Boots.
The name Neutrogena was one that I was familiar with as my wife uses some of there skin products. Therefore I had no qualms whatsoever in showing a little interest in the product and giving it a right look over prior to purchasing it.

I have been using it now for about a month and infact last week I didn’t wash my hair for four days, because I had the ...

...saw a TV ad for Neutrogena T/Gel, therefore, I determined to buy a bottle the very next time I passed a chemist's.
Then I saw the price, and changed my mind. It was only after several weeks' dithering (and head-scratching) that I eventually made my purchase. The price is simply staggering. A 125ml bottle costs £4.28 in Tesco - and they had a sign beside it boasting that they were cheaper than Boots, who sell it at £4.99. The 250ml size costs £7.50. ... ...else!'.
There are varieties for Normal/Greasy and Normal/Dry hair, as well as one formulated especially for an itchy scalp. My local branch of Tesco only stocks the Normal/Greasy (differentiated from Normal/Dry by a green rather than yellow band on the box), so that's what I bought. I wonder now whether one of the others would have been a better choice.
It all looks very clinical: a no-nonsense white and blue box with plain black text. The instructions ...

T Gel® Shampoo is a shampoo especially formulated for dandruff, and flaky itchy scalps (some form of dermatitis).
The shampoo is made by Neutrogena, and sells in chemists and various other outlets, approved to sell it.

I tried Neutrogena T/Gel Anti-Dandruff shampoo because my hair was getting more and more of a problem. I’ve always had very greasy hair, with occasional dandruff, but it was nothing serious and I found washing it frequently with a normal shampoo was enough for me. I tried T/Gel because normal cheaper anti-dandruff shampoos never seemed to do much for me in the past, and it specifically said on the bottle that it dealt with the itching associated with dandruff, as well as having two ingredients to fight the micro-organisms which apparently cause it. I had this product recommended to me by my hairdresser, when she noticed that I had patches of dry skin around my hairline. The thought of embarrassing flakes, was more than enough to make me get down to the shops and try it out.

I get dry scalp from time to time (mainly from stress I think) so I use T-Gel because it is basically the only stuff I have found that truly works. The good and the bad points:

# It certainly isn't cheap, up to £7/8 a bottle for a decent size and you can have a fair bit of difficulty finding places that sell it in the first place (Boots tend to be the most reliable place). # You do get quite a lot for your money (normal bottle is about 6fl oz) and you only need a ...
