Advantages Advantages A healthy alternative to meat joints

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dry and lacking in taste

If this product came ready sliced and in a ‘slurpy’ thick gravy then I might be tempted to buy it again, but as it stands, or rather sits in an unappetising thick sausage form then as far as I care it can jolly well stay on the shelf, or rather Tesco’s freezers!! End of op!!! Ha ha only kidding! It has taken me this long to get back to op writing, you aint getting away with it so lightly! I am not a vegetarian as such; it just happens that I quite like these Quorn alternatives. Quorn is described as ‘myco-protein’ and I think I am right in believing that it is ... more

Advantages Advantages Good flavour, easily cooked and large amount for left-overs.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expense.

I've been an on-off vegetarian since I can remember. Always wanting to care for little fluffy-animals but finding the lure of McDonalds to be a little too much for my child-like mind. This year I found myself finally ready to make a stand and so far I have not touched meat for four + months. Throughout my life I've tried so many different vegetarian alternatives with Quorn and Linda McCartney meals being at the top of my list. I was doing my usual grocery shop and saw the New Quorn Roast. As a vegetarian I am always trying to find new ways to eat more than just a plate of vegetables so in to ... more

Advantages Advantages tastes gorgeous, nice texture, filling

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, can be dry on its own

So, who thinks vegetarian food is dull and boring? Just veggie burgers made up of bits of old carrots and peas? Well, yes, some of that stuff is out there, but there are also many frozen vegetarian products that are excellent – and this Quorn roast in one of them. Quorn is ‘made from myco-protein, which is mushroom in origin and does not contain soya’ to quote from the packet. We use Quorn pieces and Quorn mince quite often (usually for curries and lasagne respectively) and have also eaten the Quorn fillets. I would recommend all of the range, but will concentrate my opinion ... more

Advantages Advantages Meat free, low fat, rich in fibres, few calories

Disadvantages Disadvantages Long cooking time, dry, expensive

The Quorn roast can be found in the frozen food section of many of the big supermarket: Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco. As it is frozen it could be stored for a long time at home. The package is pretty nice and shows the roast in a nice plate with roasted vegetables and rosemary...like a real meat roast! The pack is just one size (454 g.) and it is enough for a family meal (3-5 people) as it satisfies the appetite soon (and with few calories!!). It has an oval shape of approx. 6 inches and it is all wrapped up in film. The cooking process requires you to pierce the film and cook the roast in the ... more

    Advantages Advantages low fat, vegetarian

    Disadvantages Disadvantages the gravy/sauce

Quorn is a part of Marlow Foods Ltd and they manufacture meat free foods. Quorn itself is described as being made from a mushroom protein called mycoprotein (myco being the Latin word or Protein and the Greek word for Fungi). It normally tells you what percentage of mycoprotein is in the meal you buy. It does state on the box though that the quorn range contains egg, wheat and milk so it perhaps won't be suitable for some people such as vegan. It is approved by the vegetarian society and is GM free. The chicken-style flavour roast is part of the freezer foods range and comes frozen. The pack ... more
