Advantages Advantages ‘Sunday’ magazine and perhaps, the sports section, ....

Disadvantages Disadvantages Occasional slices of hypocrisy AND the stench of sensationalism

If in doubt, put up campaigns that people will find impossible to argue against AND creatively steal other peoples’ ideas. To suggest that the ‘News of the World’ is a family newspaper would be stretching the truth just a little as it covers an awful lot of scandal and nonsense in it’s pages (mainly any of the perm-four-from-five subjects of sex, drugs, alcohol, money OR violence), granted it occasionally features the odd human interest story BUT the sense of ‘awe’ it must inspire to readers as the latest celebrity gets broilly involved in some ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great stings!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No news

Whatever you think of the tabloids the News of the World has come up with some fabulous stings and scoops over the years. Their team of fake sheiks and seedy businessmen have nailed some big names and recently they are on a roll. A tabloids job is to uncover hypocrites by being hypocrites and it works to a treat. After the John Higgins scoop it was just fabulous to see the rather ridiculous and some what sad Sarah Ferguson greedily grasping at a bag full of money in that NY hotel room on a promise to offer access to her ex husband. She is clearly not very bright and a pile of loot placed on ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of gossip and scandal

Disadvantages Disadvantages Most of it is grossly exaggerated

We live in a pretty sad world with African famines, earthquakes, floods and droughts, but one thing is fairly certain if you should decide to part with your 80 pence on a Sunday morning down at your local newsagents and purchase a copy of the News of the World, you will probably find any such article relegated to page seven or nine. And so you may ask yourself what eye catching front cover story could possibly be of more interest to the general public than something affecting millions of people worldwide? The answer of course is that Sam from Big Brother has decided to get her boobs out, and ... more

Advantages Advantages "The sports coverage is great", Silly stories

Disadvantages Disadvantages Evil, money grabbing, manipulative, using scum :)

It was the Summer of 2000, in the middle of the school holidays. Children across the country were relaxing, playing, sun bathing, doing anything but think about school. School was over, they were free. As it turned out, freedom was exactly what was so hotly contested. In Kent, a little girl went missing, 9 year-old Sarah Payne. The Police treated the missing child like any other - getting the parents to do press conferences appealing for their child to return, conducting door-to-door interviews to find out where she was last seen, generally focusing people's attentions on the missing girl ... more

Advantages Advantages No nonsense sex scandals

    Disadvantages Disadvantages all the adverts

There is nothing better than waking up on a Sunday morning, or in my case mid-morning, rolling over and grabbing hold of the Sunday Newspaper. In my case this newspaper being The News of the World. Why do I buy it? Well what more could you ask from any one newspaper..... It contains more sex scandals than Jordan's biography will do (and remember sex sells), no huge long words to try and digest, colourful pictures to grab the eye, eye catching headlines, a great sports section and a glossy magazine with all the television details for the week - oh and its only 70p! This weeks edition which I ... more

Advantages Advantages great for a Sunday morning hangover

Disadvantages Disadvantages sometimes too sensationalist (if that is possible)

This Murdoch-owned paper has come in for a lot of stick in these opinion pieces - criticism which I would be happy to try to tackle. The fact that it is the biggest-selling Sunday paper in Britain must count for something and while I concede that it is a 'tits and arse' paper, it also has a worthwhile place on the news shelves. A prime example - does anyone remember the (ongoing) For Sarah campaign, in memory of murdered toddler Sarah Payne? Editor Rebekah Wade was criticised for naming and shaming perverts but with no other pactical way to know when paedophiles are living in your area, near ... more

Advantages Advantages great if you like sleazy stories

Disadvantages Disadvantages not suitable for the family

Well I don't think you could get more titilation for 60 pence, no matter where you went! This Sunday newspaper is full of sordid tales of sex, drugs, crime and indecency. It gets its readers by writing about celebrities who are supposedly involved inthese things. It does, however, seem to have something of a double standard. It takes a strong moral stance on certain issues when it wants to but makes its money from 'sleazy' articles designed only to titilate! This publication certainly isn't suitable for children to read and I never had it in the house while my family was growing up. Infact I ... more

Advantages Advantages Sensationalised news stories to your liking? You'l love this.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Questionable moral stances and sensationalised news stories

This is a newspaper that seems to work on the basest levels yet claim higher moral ground whenever it desires to. This is appalling and kind of scary. It titillates with sordid tales of celebrity debauchery that usually entails of sex, drugs or crime as well as public acts of indecency when it so wishes. It provides human interest stories that counteract the bad with the good. And now, a lot of crime-fighting as well. And people lap it up! This is by no means a newspaper suitable for all members of the family yet they will argue that it is (it's no use arguing with them, you know....they're ... more

Advantages Advantages Well presented and illustrated, a toddlers newspaper

Disadvantages Disadvantages Keep out the reach of children, no smut spared

tab-loid - noun 1. A newspaper of small format giving the news in condensed form, usually with illustrated, often sensational material. broad - sheet - noun 1. Chiefly British. a newspaper printed on large paper, usually a respctable newspaper rather than a tabloid. Seems even the dictionary is against News of the World, as at the very search of the broadsheets you get the tabloids cut down to size for their cut throat attitude. I think it's time to get something out in the air from the very beginning though, and that is how much I enjoy the journalism.. or, tabloidism of the weekly newspaper ... more

Well isnt this a turn for the blue. I have read all the options in the independent area of ciao and I have decided that people don’t really know what they are liking or disliking. I think most people hate or like the newspapers, as a reader myself I listen to most story’s from the news and read most story’s in newspapers and wonder whether they are true or a lie. The newspaper company’s have a job to do, they either do it good or do it rubbish. The news of the worldt is one of these newspapers that I personally sometimes find it interesting and sometimes I just totally ... more
