Advantages: they reduce my intake Disadvantages: they have not helped me stop
...know that for me the nicorette microtab will not help me quit. They help me smoke less but that is not what they are for. They may be all you need however so I will advise you to give them a try. If they work, great, If not then try again. The moral of this tale is to never give up giving up, I guess it will happen to me one day. ...

Advantages: May save your life. Oh, and they have worked for me Disadvantages: Have tasted better!
So, here I am. Feeling more than a bit pleased with myself! After 10 years of being a 20 a day smoker, I appear to have cracked it and kicked the evil weed- it has been a whole 26 days. I have saved a whole £100 (and then promptly blew it on shoes, but that's another story).
This is far from the first attempt. In fact if I’m honest, I have lost track of how many times I have tried. From patches (nasty rash), to Gum (nasty taste), to will power (nasty ... ...I enlisted the help of my GP. Once he had recovered from the shock of me finally admitting to more than 5 fags a day he sent me to see the “Smoking Cessation Counsellor”, who was one of the practise Nurses. We met and assessed my horrid habit, decided on what form my fix would take and set a date. And there I was with a prescription for two weeks supply of Micro-tabs. I paid my £6.30 NHS prescription charge and off I went.
I went home and examined ...

Advantages: takes the edge off a craving Disadvantages: Doesnt take away the craving, tastes horrible, cost a lot and dont work
For anyone who is a smoker, life is hard. The finances are drained, the lungs are black and that mucus you end up spitting down the sink each morning is enough to make you feel nausious. Well sadly these things wont help you.
THE LOOK:
The pills come in a handy little container that operates on a wheel system, allowing you to turn it onto your next pill before pressing the little button to puch it out. Although a good little novelty I found it ... ...keeps the pills safe.
I guess I should stop calling them pills though, after all they are little white tablets you put under your tongue, tiny indeed but thats what they need to be. I looked at them and wondered if there was anything in them, there is!
THE TASTE:
One problem with these tablets is the disgusting taste. I couldn't stomach it easily and had to sit down for a few minutes after trying them. It feels like a burning senssation under ...

Advantages: Small unobtrusive. Disadvantages: Made my mouth sore, expensive.
I tried Nicorette Microtab because a friend recommended it. It did not help me much. I craved cigarettes almost all the time I used the tablets. My tongue became very sore and my mouth was so dry that my dentures were really uncomfortable. My breath was foul and I had a metallic taste in my mouth when I used a tablet. It lasted until I cleaned my teeth.
I was not very impressed by this product at all, but others may find it useful. After all, a friend ... ...might be beneficial for fairly light smokers who do not wear dentures.
Like all of the products designed to help you stop smoking, success depends very much on the person, their lifestyle and their general make up. What suits one won't suit another, that's why there are so many different products of this type on the market. If you haven't tried these these its worth a go! ...

Advantages: you decide when you need to take it Disadvantages: Taste terrible
I cannot lie to you, these taste awful, but if you can forgive that taste, then I think they're worth sticking with Unlike the patches, you can decide when you should take one, it does recommend you take something like 2 an hour if you're on twenty a day, but I competely ignored this and only took a tablet when I felt a really stronge craving, I found doing it this way meant I would only take about 7 or so a day, this resulted in me staving off the ... ...reduce the amount of tablets at my own pace. If you have an off day you can always take more too! I stopped taking these completely after two weeks(earlier than they recommend on the packet) and I've not had a cigarette since.
so really for me it was the total control over the dose that I found so appealing, and they are very discreet, no dodgy looking plaster stuck to you giving you a rash, no stupid looking plastic cigar thing that your supposed ...

...power. I found that Nicorette Microtab gave me that extra support I needed - I took them for about 4 weeks after giving up. I haven't has a cigarette now in 12 months. The tabs were better for me than patches as they give an almost instant effect, whereas the patches was more of a constant background effect that didn't really mimic the way a smoker gets nicotine into the body. ...

Advantages: pocket size container Disadvantages: tastes vile, doesn't work
Preparation is the key
Three of us decided that it was about time that we quit this bad habit and saved ourselves some money. So we set the date, about a month in advance, came up with plans of what we would do when the cravings hit. Bought many board games to keep us occupied and prepared ourselves for the fateful day.
Initially we each chose different forms of nicotine replacement. I chose MicroTabs, as they sounded pretty good. I bought my first ... ...my cigarettes would have cost me - so not much incentive there.
The little box to keep them in was quite cool, a bit fiddly to use, but it fitted in my pocket and was easy to carry around. I had my first tab on the Saturday morning and it was the vilest thing I have ever tasted. It was hot, made me choke and took ages to dissolve away, so I was talking in an odd way trying to keep this tab under my tongue! I actually found I was dreading the next ...

Advantages: They work - really feel like having a smoke Disadvantages: At first they have a burney feeling
.I gave up smoking in October 2006, the reason behind this was I just simply could not afford them anymore. Here in Ireland 1 pack of 20 costs 7.45 , so I was spending 52.15 a week and even more scarily I was spending 208.60 a month. My partner smoked aswell so we were spending double that amount on something that would damage our health and in the long run would probably kill us.
I had previously tried a few nicotine replacement products most recently ... ...like them. They didnt take the edge off the craving and they were quite big. They had a minty flavour and I didnt like the texture of them. Then I tried the patch - this was a horrible experience and i felt so sick. Even after I took it off it took 2 hours for my tummy to get back to normal.
The microtabs come in only 1 strength 2mg. They cost 10 euro for a pack of 30 and 27.99 euro for a pack of 150. The pack of 150 is much better value. And as ...

Advantages: small Disadvantages: taste like crushed peppercorns
These tiny little pills are placed under the tongue a left to dissolve, the nicotine is then absorbed through the soft tissue in your cheeks, taste a bit like crushed peppercorns, but after you have used them for a few weeks you get used to them.
The microtabs come in packets containg 105 sublingual tablets, each tablet contains 2mg of nicotine along with crospovidone, B-cyclodextrin, colloidal anhydrous silica and magnesium stearate. Advantages: Small and discrete Disadvantages: Expensive
I had stopped smoking for 3 months using these little tabs and only started again through my own stupidity of putting myself in the wrong situation but that's another story.
The key to success with these (or any NRT for that matter) is wanting to stop. If you really want to you will - if not, nothing will help you.
I found these tabs to be the best help - for me. I have tried patches (make my skin sore and still leave me with cravings), nasal spray ... ...tastes foul.
The tabs work within about 30 seconds of popping one under your tongue and help to take your mind off the cravings. I found in the first few days I was using about 25 tabs (I was a 20-30 a day smoker) but gradually it came down. The hardest part of stopping is getting used to doing all the things I usually did with a cigarette in my hand. The habit is the bit to crack. When you have done that (and it takes many weeks) you will be free!!

Advantages: There's no tar, CO, or cancerous substances Disadvantages: nicotine is still an addictive drug that creates tolerance!
It annoys me slightly when people resort to nicotine replacements in order to give up smoking. Smoking creates tolerance and in order to break that vicious cycle which leaves thousands dead each year, its up to the individual to cut it out altogether, not feed themselves with the drug which has created the addiction in the first place, which in my opinion would increase the chances of the smoker starting up the habit again. However, I do agree there ... ...is no chance of harmful carbon monoxine or tar entering the body which could possibly lead to lung cancer, bronchitis, and emphysema so therefore the risks are cut down significantly.
However, i do think a lot of this replacements feed off people's laziness to actually have the strength and willpower to kick the habit...after all if you're going to do it, do it for good. ...
