Advantages: Detailed Photos Disadvantages: Small Screen
The Nikon Coolpix 4300 is the first ever digital camera I bought. At the time I bought the camera I wanted it to be able to take decent photos in all sorts of different light conditions and different situations.
I was very impressed with this camera when I first bought it as I found that inside the box there wasn't just a camera, there was various different photo programs that came with the camera as well as a few different leads such as a USB ...

Advantages: small, light, picture quality, setting range, macro facility Disadvantages: flash recovery time, write to flash card time
I have to be honest - when I was looking for a digitial camera I was primarily after something that had a good macro facility, but this camera proved to be much more than that!
The camera itself
------------------------
It is a nice light, compact and easy camera to handle. The battery and Compact Flash slots are easy to access. You will find the camera a nice size to shoot photos with, unless you have large hands or thick fingers. The majority ...

...to wide-angle lenses. But the Nikon 4300 was, and it happened to be on a special sale from the factory - so I bought it directly from Nikon. There was a shortage of the wide-angle lenses, so it took a few weeks to track one down, but I did find one. The price I paid for the camera AND lens was somewhat less than the quoted price here for the camera alone.
I was pleasantly surprised that the camera was very easy to use, and amazed at the overall ...

Advantages: Great picture quality, easy uploads, point and shoot, fast battery charging, nice design Disadvantages: Low battery life when flash used
The Nikon 4300 is my first digital camera and I was worried that digital photos would just not hold up quality wise to a 35mm photo, I must say I was immediately amazed at, and impressed with, the picture quality of the Nikon. It is very difficult to take a bad picture with this camera (although it happens on occasion) I also enjoy the super easy upload to my computer. Quick and easy step by step programme. I haven't even read the manual it is so ...

Advantages: easy to hold, GREAT images Disadvantages: can be complicated in the menus
I bought this camera as my old and trusty Kodak died on me shortly after my daughters wedding and just before I was due to go on holiday to Greece.
I looked around as I always do and had originally settled for a Pentax but when I tried it in the shop it was so small I felt I would drop it too easily so turned to a larger camera.
I am delighted with the grip on this camera as it feels really secure and is easy to hold steady.
I really wish I'd ...

...I might go for another Nikon as I have fount them to be reliable and not given me many problems, but I think I would maybe go for a more expensive camera with more functions and options to uses. But at this time the camera does what I want it to do and I haven't found any need at the moment for anything better.

It allows easy upload of photos with good quality of picture.

...shops we decided on the Nikon as a)it seemed to offer everything we were looking for and b) it had £50 off (we paid £250 back in December 03 I think you could probably pick it up cheaper now).
As a point and shoot camera I am delighted, the photographs are crisp and clear and it seems to cope well in all different lighting situations. The Lithium battery lasts really well and recharges quickly. I like the indicator for zoom, which shows very clearly ...

The Nikon 4300 is my second digital camera. I moved from a Fuji Finepix with lower pixels and I must say I was immediately amazed at, and impressed with, the picture quality of the Nikon. It is very difficult to take a bad picture with this one (although it happens on occasion). I also enjoy the super easy upload to my computer. Quick and easy step by step programme. Advantages: Great picture quality, ease of use and affordably-priced Disadvantages: Can be a little slow to be ready for use.
The Nikon Coolpix was my first digital camera. Having only used expensive and heavy SLR cameras for photography in the past, I was surprised at the picture quality achieved by this compact digital. The camera is also surprisingly easy to use and small enough to take on most excursions. My concerns regarding short battery life and not enough memory proved groundless. I have never run out of either even when taking the camera away for a two week holiday. ...

...tends to fall apart. The Nikon CoolPix offers a 3x optical zoom that does a really good job and to my surprise the digital zoom (4x with a 12x total zoom) on this model will still allow you to take a decent picture (you must have the monitor on to use the digital zoom).
The Battery:
The next feature that was important to me was the number of photos I would be able to take with the battery fully charged. On average I take 4 (36 exp)rolls of film ...

This camera is easy to operate, and has a very good instruction manual supplied. It is ideal for the beginner who wants to just start snapping, but it is equally good for the intermediate photographer, who wishes to be a little more adventurous with their images.

I moved from a Canon 1.3 m/pixel camera to this and was immediately impressed with the noticable picture quality. I find that the delay can
vary depending on how much charge the battery has although with practice you don't notice it too much. The movie mode has no sound, but as I bought it as a stills camera this doesn't bother me too much.

This camera is fun to use as you can try out the different scene modes (such as 'Fireworks' which is perfect for Bonfire Night or 'Beach/Snow' perfect for when you're building those snowmen this Christmas!). I had never used a digital camera before and I found it really easy to get the hang of. The macro mode is great for those budding nature/wildlife photographers as it takes great photos close-up, I have taken some beautiful pictures of flowers ...
