Advantages Advantages Excellent picture quality, very sturdy, great manual controls

Disadvantages Disadvantages Couple design faults, menus slightly confusing

The Nikon Coolpix 5700 was introduced in September 2001, as a replacement for the Coolpix 5000, but is this camera right for you? Find out in my review... WHAT’S IN THE BOX Inside the retail box you should find the following:- - The 5 million megapixel Nikon Coolpix 5700 camera - 16mb CompactFlash memory card - EN-EL1 rechargeable Li-ion battery - Battery charger - Neck & lens cap straps - USB & Audio/Video cable - CD ROM software including NikonView 5 - 179 page manual The only downside to this retail bundle is the memory card. Advantages Advantages Fabulous picture quality, versatile, full set of exposure controls

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ouch, that price, but way cheaper than a real "pro" model.

I'VE NOW HAD MY 5700 FOR ABOUT A YEAR, AND I STILL THINK IT'S THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD - NOT SURE WHY I SAID THAT, I HATE SLICED BREAD! PITY IT'S NOW CHEAPER THOUGH, BUT HEH, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD A YEAR'S USE OF IT. MY FIRST 'ALL DIGITAL' SCRAPBOOK FOR 2003 HAS HAD MANY ADMIRING GLANCES, AND I'VE ALMOST ERADICATED CELLULOID FROM MY VOCABULARY. .............Digital cameras are getting better all the time. At one time, I’d have said that I’d never forsake my brace of Canon SLR’s for solid-state picture taking but now I’m not so sure. Having had a year and a half of using a good quality ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent picture quality, full range of features

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery life and weight

A great camera so far. It has replaced my point and shoot Fujifinepix 4700 zoom and after just returning from a fortnight in Europe I'm now in a position to tell you how it works in practice. The camera has a good automatic mode which allows point and shoot photography out of the box just like a film camera. Despite the full range of features it is really easy to use straight away. Don't be intimidated by the huge manual. Everything you need to know to get started is on a two sided quick start card. The manual allows you to explore all of the extra features the camera has, and the size of the ... more

Advantages Advantages good picture quality, nice set of features, good zoom

Disadvantages Disadvantages big camera, maybe too many features for what you might need?

I'm not going to post a bunch of technical specifications and random numbers which as far as the layman on camera knows mean nothing. I'll tell you about my experience with the camera and hopefully give you a good idea of what it would be like to own the camera yourself. Ok so its a camera, lets have a look at the picture quality. The specification for the camera is 5 megapixels, this is basically the resolution of the image, 5 million pixels will be displayed when viewed on your computer monitor at 100% zoom. So, thats a lot of pixels we have there, and they produce a wonderful image! the ... more

Advantages Advantages Feature laden. Able to shoot in RAW. Good software.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very slow RAW processing. Difficult to sync with studio flash.

I bought my Coolpix 5700 in March 2004 after a lot of research both on the Net and from talking to friends who owned one. I knew I needed a minimum of 5 mega pixels as I needed to produce exhibition quality prints at A3+ size. This criteria kept the range of options down especially as another must have was total control over exposure. In the end, and to save boring you, the decision came down to the Nikon and the Canon PowerShot G5. The G5 nearly won as it had all the features I wanted, produced superb results and would have continued a 20 year love affair with Canon. However, the deciding ... more

Advantages Advantages Sturdy, good controls, excellent picture quality, good battery life

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Weight

This is a fairly robust camera with good controls. It can use CompactFlash cards, fitting them and battery is very easy. You can start shooting almost straight away - the automatic settings are fine for a lot of work. For those who want to alter a few settings there are some buttons on the left side of the camera body and also a good menu. The battery that comes with the camera lasts quite a while - often doing a few hundred shots both with and without flash on one charge, though like any camera its always useful to buy a spare battery. The pictures themselves are very very good - though the ... more

Advantages Advantages Feels like the "real" thing, only better

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still a bit pricey, but worth the extra

First of all, I want to make it completely clear that I'm not 100% au fait with this creature yet - this review is borne of 1 week's messing about and the urge to get my gut feeling of just how good this camera is across. I've been "into" photography since I spent a few years doing a journalism course - taking piccies and writing in shorthand are the two most useful things I learned - so I'm more an enthusiastic amateur than anything even approaching a professional. However, the results with this camera are so good (and it's use is so easy) that some of the shots I've taken look as if I've ... more

    Advantages Advantages Lightweight, great pictures

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fiddly menu system

The is the little brother of the 8700 and 8800. At the price it is being offered at not (sub £400 if you search!) this is a bargain that cannot be missed. It's an SLR like camera in that the electronic view finder takes it's image from the lens but the lens are not interchangeable, although telepohot and wide angle lenses can be fitted over the standard lens using adapters. It takes a compact flash card upto 2GB in size, which may sound a lot, but that only 133 shots in TIF mode, although many hundreds more in JPG! The menu system is a little fiddly to get used to but once learnt it gives you ... more
