Advantages Advantages lightweight for an SLR, easy to use, has video, swivel screen, fairly cheap to pick up used

Disadvantages Disadvantages screen swivels from base, not brilliant at high ISO, no motor drive, can underexpose on auto

As most of you know I'm a professional photographer and the Nikon D5000 is not a professional level camera. That said I always like having 'new' equipment to fiddle with and recently the opportunity came up for me to get a second hand one of these (complete with 18-55mm kit lens) for an incredibly low price - I won't bother telling you how much as it's far lower than they sell for on the open market, so a bit of pointless information, suffice to say though it was too good a deal to pass up. Why would I need to buy it? Well I didn't, but I justified it because it's much physically smaller than ... more

Advantages Advantages Size, image quality, price.

Disadvantages Disadvantages A Lot of menus - could be confusing to new users.

I bought the D5000 2 weeks ago after deciding that I wanted an upgrade from the Nikon digital coolpix cameras that I have had in the past. I tried out a number of DSLR cameras and chose the D5000 based on its 12.3 mega pixels and its vari-angle monitor (great for self portraits!) Since buying the camera, I have tested it out rather thoroughly and I have to say, I'm ecstatic with its performance and image quality. Using the auto point and shoot mode, the camera's auto focus is lightening fast which makes the subject of your photograph sharp. The live view feature also helps you to capture a ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, pictures are clear, quick

Disadvantages Disadvantages heavy, can be bulky, loud in quiet settings

I have had the pleasure of receiving this bundle of magnificence for christmas from a relative. This camera is a really really great camera! i was surprised when i took it out of the box how easy it was to set up. It even came with a 4gig SD card! I immediately started shooting 1, 2, 10, 20, 50 photos. I couldnt stop snapping. The aperture is so fast! Like the D90, it has the same sensor and all that jazz. I looked at the pictures on my computer and they are really something. There is a live view button on the back of the camera where the 3" LCD screen is that allows you to take a picture like ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Quality, Editor, and Value

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not too easy to use

This is my first review and frankly I think that this camera is incredible. There are so many great things so say about this camera. Lets start off with the image quality, its great no doubt but if you are the type of person that shoots in low light a lot and doesn't want to use flash for some reason than this camera may not be the right choice for you. Another great aspect about Nikon's d5000 is the new editing mode that nikon has included in this model, let me just say one thing it is flat out amazing, sure it is nothing compared to Adobe's Photoshop CS5, but needless to say it is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Image quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Occasional problem being able to find where a setting is

I have had this camera for over 2 years now, it has been a great purchase and a reliable one. I believe it is a great price, good for amateur photographers to be able to produce great photographs with a camera you will be able to build your skills up with. The camera is reasonably easy to use, it can be a bit of hassle setting up all the manual settings for a photograph. I have taken this camera all around the world and it has had the general bashing about and I have had no problems with the camera breaking. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who is thinking about buying a dslr, it is a ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use + good built in settings

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I brought this camera as my first venture into the world of digital photography. With its easy to use features i was able to take pretty good shots really quickly. I found the rotatable viewing screen really useful. The camera comes with some well thought out built in settings for different scenarios, which helped me understand how to change the settings for different uses. The camera came with a 18-55 mm lens which was fine for most stuff but i think as i get more experienced i will need to upgrade to something else maybe a Macro lens and an external flash. The user manual gave a pretty good ... more

I want to share about Nikon D5000 that I bought one month ago. I decided to buy this camera after seeing the reviews and some of the photos that's said were taken with this camera. After the camera was in my hands, the first thing I did was try this camera and I was amazed because there's feature on this camera was more than I imagined. The Nikon D5000 has a new features set that makes this camera is different between the D60/D3000 and D90. One of them is like 'Positionable LCD display', which can be rotated into various positions(Allows to take pictures from angles that are difficult) ... more
