A Camera to Test the Waters (Not Literally)

AdvantagesEase of Use, Reliability, Cost, Great for Beginners

DisadvantagesLow Light, Overheating, Limited Video Settings

"== The Snapshot Overview == The Nikon D5100 is a great camera for beginners that are looking to either try their hand in the DSLR video market or learning how to take excellent pictures. It is very simple to use and if needed can go into full auto to allow the camera to decide settings for quick shots. It however is a beginner grade camera and therefore falls into some of the same pitfalls as other cameras. == The Bare Essential Features == This ..." Read review

Great beginner's DSLR

AdvantagesGood range of ISOs, great quality, clarity, awesome modes

Disadvantagesgrain, no auto stabilizer, slow shutter speed sometimes

"I bought this at a time when I knew very little to nothing about photography, and it taught me so much and took me from taking photos that were of awful novice quality to photos nearly as good as some proFotogs. This can be a bit hard to figure out at first, and it took me quite long to understand the camera fully and use all the features properly, but that could also be because I don't read manuals. The best feature about it is its range in ISO's, ..." Read review

The D5100 is such great value for money.

AdvantagesHas a good kit lens, fast focusing, good picture quality, loads of features and more

DisadvantagesGrip is too small, body is made of plastic

"If you're reading this, you're probably looking to buy a D5100, or you're choosing between this, the D3200 and the Canon 600D. I would just like to say that I absolutely love this camera, it has a 16 megapixel sensor, which isn't as much as what Canon have, but megapixels don't really matter that much, unless you're cropping or making big prints. It focuses extremely fast with the kit lens and takes high quality files, nearly up to the standard of ..." Read review

Nikon D5100 as an upgrade from a compact Review with images

Advantagesfeatures to price ratio

Disadvantagesno AF motor in the body

"This camera I bough as an upgrade from a compact about the time my daughter was born. I use it for taking photos both in and outdoors, a lot of portraits of the little one and some nature as well. The kit lens it came with is versatile, but slow (f/3.5 is the quickest) so do not expect it to be great in low light situations. I don't use the flash as the effects are poor, without a proper flash with a diffuser anything will look unnatural (I am a ..." Read review

Frame Memories for Life

Advantagesexcellent shooting design, flawless photo quality, reasonable

DisadvantagesAbsence of image stabilization and in built focus motor

"...photo quality and practical features, Nikon D5100 fits the bill perfectly. I bought it a couple of months ago. I haven’t had any issues so far. It is one of the best cameras in my opinion. It is also an affordable device. I didn’t have to spend a fortune on it. Nikon has again lived up to its reputation and the expectations of consumers. A promising device, Nikon D5100 offers flawless photo quality, not to mention excellent shooting design ..." Read review

Nikon 5100 Review with images

Advantagesvery good picture quality.easy to use

Disadvantagesmoderate battery life.

"...previously the owner of a Nikon D300 so from that point of view the 5100 has photos of a higher quality and a lot sharper on a pixel level. The dynamics are excellent , again better than the D300. The quality is resistant to highlight-cropping even at ISO 1250 or you can go at ISO 3200 but with some compromises. The camera is super silent and that mobile screen is great , really useful in a lot of situations. Regarding the video quality well you have ..." Read review

My first DSLR

AdvantagesEasy to use, good picture quality

DisadvantagesShutter can get stuck

"I bought the Nikon D5100 as I had read it would be a good starter camera for those thinking of entering into professional photography. I found the camera very easy to use, and it was a quick transition to using mostly manual settings rather than the automatic settings. It did however, develop a shutter jam about three months into use. Little did I know, that was and easy fix, and merely required me to dislodge the mirror from the side of the camera ..." Great for everybody - Nikon D5100 Review with images

Advantages16.2 mp censor, 3.0" LCD monitor, HD movie, 17 shooting modes, In-camera retouching

DisadvantagesMight be a little difficult to get to know.

"I think itīs not too much to say that this is a phenomenal camera. Itīs price is around 700-800 euros - definitely a good buy for that amount of money. When first handling the DSLR you are impressed bu itīs "outer qualities" - Side-articulated LCD screen, 921k dot LCD screen. But you will not be disappointed actually using the camera either. With itīs 16.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor you are able to take professional quality photos. The colours ..." Read review

Nikon D5100 Bringing out the Best in Innovation

Advantages1080p HD Video Recorder, Affordability, 3.0" LCD Monitor

DisadvantagesSize and Maneuverability

"Nikon once again manages to impress with the new Nikon D5100, a camera that shows promise through affordability and outstanding quality. A 1080p movie shooter provides an excellent opportunity for users to explore the stunning visual effects that the D5100 is sure to capture. But technology isn't all that goes into the Nikon D5100, a sleek and elegant design brings out the true uniqueness that is found in the D5100. From the casual photographer to ..." Read review
