Advantages Advantages Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

There’s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm’s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they’ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr…..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don’t we, lads? What I really meant was “the last for quite a while”. LOOKS LIKE THE “QUITE A WHILE” HAS EXPIRED Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens

Disadvantages Disadvantages More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very ... more

Advantages Advantages FIRST MOVIE MODE IN dSLR, user friendly, exellent image quality, good resolution

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not that really stand out loud

It is camera which has done justice to all lovers of photography and Nikon fans in particular. It has almost lived up to it’s promise and more than satisfied all who has been eagerly waiting for it which was an almost foregone conclusion after Nikon D80 was launched exactly 2 years ago. To cap it all it is the first camera to support movie capture which must be accepted as a revolutionary but expected addition into the features of a DSLR. It will be a big mistake to assume that it is just a routine upgrade of Nikon D80 because it provides some significant enhancement over its predecessor and ... more

Advantages Advantages large resolution, great photos, easy to use, great battery life, great fun!

Disadvantages Disadvantages obviously its not a £2000 plus camera

I bought this camera June 5th 2009, it cost me close to £900 but so far has been worth every penny!. im sure if you have got to the point of reading this review you are well aware of the specs if not thats the best place to start. while looking for a DSLR I looked at this and the 2 other price range competitors the Canon EOS 500D and the other Nikon D5000. this was a very hard choice I found that while playing around with all 3 in shops the D90 had the best video, and more vibrant pictures than the Canon. but that still left me with the two nikons the only thing that separated them in my books ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, light, useful in most situations

Disadvantages Disadvantages No compact flash card slot

When trying to choose a digital camera there are hundreds of options, DSLRs are becoming increasingly popular as one of those options above the traditional compact sized cameras. The D90 is a fantastic camera. It's not the lowest range or priced camera by a long way, but it does have a lot of extra features for the price over cheaper DSLRs, and still comes in at a somewhat affordable cost for what you get. Usability: Perhaps not the most technical review ever, you can read the technicalities anywhere. However to use this is a superb camera - it has the options of automatic modes for almost any ... more

    5 Stars Quick review of Nikon D90 by Level 1 Moggy54 12/09/2009
No wonder this camera won the TIPA camera of the year award for 2009. It's well worth every penny. Easy to use, with an excellent 3inch screen on the back. The live view facility is also excellent. There are enough utilities and functions to keep me going for a long time. This camera is taking me onto the next level in photography.

Advantages Advantages Amazing picture quality, perfect for beginners and professionals

    Disadvantages Disadvantages absolutely none!

I cannot praise this camera enough, the whole thing is execptionally well made and durable. Recently on a mountain in portugal i dropped it a few feet onto a rock (an accident of course) and it works PERFECTLY still. This picture quality is amazing and is the best when compared to other cameras in this price range. Active D-Lighting and Nikons Image Stabalisation are also a godsend! The 18 to 105mm lens that came with my D90 is also amazing, a little fish-eye effect at the 18mm end but that can be expected with such a wide angle. The extra large 3 inch screen is a huge improvent from the 2.5 ... more

Advantages Advantages super quality of basic functions

    Disadvantages Disadvantages a little heavy

The basic points of the camera are: Pros: 1 - Fantastic value for money 2 - Great start to amateur photography 3 - Very very easy to use 4 - Comes with a good quality glass lense Cons : 1 - Expensive to change to alternative lense, unless going for other brands e.g. lenses with plastic covers. 2 - A little heavy 3 - Not as compact as other digital handheld cameras 4 - Sometimes awkward reviewing mode 5 - I personnally find the interface a little awkward to use. Overall this camera is a beautiful model and great for beginner photographers hoping to get a grip for a digital SLR, an obvious ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use. Built to last. Fantastic Images.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Makes you wonder what the higher end models do.

Having purchase the nikon D90 as my first DSLR, I can only say WOW. I have been confidently using my high end compact camera's for years, with fantastic results. But, the picture quality I now get, is slowly and surely putting all my previous photography to shame. I thought the D90 was going to be a minefield of complicated bits and programmes. With the aid of the manual and the odd book or two, I found it quite easy. The build quality is good, built to last, which is good for me because, a lot of my work is outdoor photography. There are not may DSLR out there with HD video. This was the ... more
