Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

AdvantagesMovies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range

DisadvantagesStill quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

"...they’ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr…..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don’t we, lads? What I really meant was “the last for quite a while”. ==LOOKS LIKE THE “QUITE A WHILE” HAS EXPIRED== Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking ..." My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

AdvantagesExcellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens

DisadvantagesMore expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

"...found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel of the bodies ..." Read review

Imagine, there's no...

AdvantagesFIRST MOVIE MODE IN dSLR, user friendly, exellent image quality, good resolution

DisadvantagesNot that really stand out loud

"...all lovers of photography and Nikon fans in particular. It has almost lived up to it’s promise and more than satisfied all who has been eagerly waiting for it which was an almost foregone conclusion after Nikon D80 was launched exactly 2 years ago. To cap it all it is the first camera to support movie capture which must be accepted as a revolutionary but expected addition into the features of a DSLR. It will be a big mistake to assume that it is ..." Read review

Brilliant camera for the money well worth it very versatile

Advantageslarge resolution, great photos, easy to use, great battery life, great fun!

Disadvantagesobviously its not a £2000 plus camera

"...EOS 500D and the other Nikon D5000. this was a very hard choice I found that while playing around with all 3 in shops the D90 had the best video, and more vibrant pictures than the Canon. but that still left me with the two nikons the only thing that separated them in my books was the screens the larger screen on this D90 or the smaller lower resolution on the D5000. and as i like to take lots of photos and look at them i went for the D90. I have ..." Read review

The Nikon D90 is a fantastic camera for beginners or enthusiasts.

AdvantagesEasy to use, light, useful in most situations

DisadvantagesNo compact flash card slot

"...it will work with any Nikon lenses made, and nearly all it will autofocus with, making it a perfect option for those with lenses already in their kit, or wishing to pick up some of the cheaper lenses available. The only potential bad points for some people about this camera may be the lack of a full-frame sensor, however most people won't notice any difference in everyday use, and this comes in a lot cheaper and lighter than any full-frame camera ..." Pretty al right!

AdvantagesExcellent Build Quality, free lcd cover, great kit lens, free lens hood, great value

Disadvantagespoor battery use, gets dusty very easily, small compared to others on the market

"In my opinion the Nikon D90 although older is far more superior than the Canon 60D, I used to own the 60D so am happy to give you my opinion as to why the Nikon D90 is more better. The Nikon D90 requires SD Cards to store the image/video information, I suggest a Sandisk Extreme 16GB, the camera comes complete with everything to get you started and normally comes complete with a Nikon 18-105mm VR lens which is ideal for starting out in photography, ..." Quick review of Nikon D90

"No wonder this camera won the TIPA camera of the year award for 2009. It's well worth every penny. Easy to use, with an excellent 3inch screen on the back. The live view facility is also excellent. There are enough utilities and functions to keep me going for a long time. This camera is taking me onto the next level in photography.

Advantagessuper quality of basic functions

Disadvantagesa little heavy

"The basic points of the camera are: Pros: 1 - Fantastic value for money 2 - Great start to amateur photography 3 - Very very easy to use 4 - Comes with a good quality glass lense Cons : 1 - Expensive to change to alternative lense, unless going for other brands e.g. lenses with plastic covers. 2 - A little heavy 3 - Not as compact as other digital handheld cameras 4 - Sometimes awkward reviewing mode 5 - I personnally find the interface ..." Nikon D90 up to the challenge

AdvantagesEasy to use. Built to last. Fantastic Images.

DisadvantagesMakes you wonder what the higher end models do.

"Having purchase the nikon D90 as my first DSLR, I can only say WOW. I have been confidently using my high end compact camera's for years, with fantastic results. But, the picture quality I now get, is slowly and surely putting all my previous photography to shame. I thought the D90 was going to be a minefield of complicated bits and programmes. With the aid of the manual and the odd book or two, I found it quite easy. The build quality is good, built ..." Read review
