I bought an N64 a couple of years ago and so far so good. It is in perfect condition, even though I play games on it for long hours every day. For me this is the best system there is because of the following reasons: USE OF CARTRIDGES ----------------- This is one aspect of this console that makes it tops. Unlike many other consoles which use cd’s( need cleaning and could easily get scratched) the N64 uses cartridges. There are so many advantages that come with using cartridges. For instance, there is a very small chance of them getting damaged and they cannot get scratched, there is no ... more

Advantages Advantages Some amazing games and innovations

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some poor games and a sad death

Ahhhh memories. The first games console I ever played was a Nintendo. I remember the days my Mum and Dad used to go shopping at Makro, and I would stand for ages playing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) on games like Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt. Of course I was still young at the time, and that was the limit of my early console experience. However years later b the time I had paper rounds and jobs at local chippies, I managed to buy myself a Super Nintendo (SNES) and console gaming became a big thing for me. I’ve since upgraded to a Playstation and Dreamcast (with my greedy eyes ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Cheerful, Select few games are nothing but brilliant

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dated, Lack of quality games

::::: My Story ::::: I decided to take a step back in gaming recently – I purchased an N64. I was once what some may call a “hardcore gamer”. I’ve had every console from the “Master System” up to the “Playstation 2” that I recently sold. You may be muttering madman, selling a ps2 and getting an N64. However I assure you, there is method to my madness. Don’t you just love that phrase, that’s why I used it for my title. Well anyway I sold the ps2 with 1 game for £300, good deal, considering I only paid £2 more for it on release day ... more

Advantages Advantages Endless Multiplayer Entertainment, Some groundbreaking Games!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some very poor games that scar Nintendo's Reputation

During its reign I never actually got round to buying a Nintendo 64 as I already owned a playstation and couldn't persuade my parents to let me have both. Though this did not stop me from enjoying its endless multiplayer entertainment as luckily I had a very good friend who owned one. I am not 100% certain on what convinced me to impulsively buy one from ebay just over a month ago; perhaps an attempt to reclaim some of my not so distant childhood back or maybe it was simply because you can now pick them up for under £20. Personally I chose the limited edition Goldeneye version, complete with ... more

    Advantages Advantages Games are peerless

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cartridges are more expensive than CDs

OK, I'm not going to go into some pureile rant about who makes the best consoles, I'll leave that for the ten year olds in the playground. The fact is that I own a Dreamcast, Playstation, N64, and a 3DO (remember them?) and, in terms of entertainment per hour, the N64 comes out tops. Let me tell you why... Like many men in their mid-twenties I would like nothing better than to waste away every available hour chasing yellow stars, beating lap records, shooting people in the head (!), but the fact is that work, girlfriend, mates etc. have an annoying habit of getting in the way. So, what I need ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, especially compared to like consoles, great games you can only get with nintendo.

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are better consoles on the market, but most don't have the gameplay

Well most people as it happens. But should you take a look? I have owned the N64 ever since my Playstation broke 2 years ago. I was really into it and found the concepts in some of the games outstanding. Tecnhu Stealth Assassin for example was fantastic. The gameplay was quite easy though and you got used to it quickly. When it exploded though I definitely considered buying a new one. However the PS was still expensive and not having much money I snapped up the chance to buy my N64 for just £50 off a mate with Goldeneye, Mariokart, Rogue Squadron and Fifa 98, and 3 controllers all with memory ... more

Ok, so the Nintendo 64 never grasped the publics attention in the same way as the PlayStation did, and now it seems as though the 64 bit purely for games machine is on it’s last legs, with very few releases arriving, but I do recommend this machine to you if you can pick one up for the right price. Let there be no mistake – there are some absolutely phenomenal games on the Nintendo 64, which play better than most of the recently released games – Golden Eye for example is one of the best multiplayer games ever made, and is still a favourite among N64 owners and non owners ... more

Advantages Advantages Some of the best games on the market. Has innovated throughout its life.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Failed to sell as well as many hoped. Expensive games. Approaching its death

I have been a life long follower of Nintendo and their games consoles. This started with their first home console the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES which although I didn't own (instead opting for the Sega Master System) I often borrowed a NES off others and always preferred it to the Sega console. This the led to the purchase of Ninty's next home console the SNES which still holds a large place in my heart as a truly classic console with some amazing games. Oh and of course I've owned Nintendo's miniature console the Gameboy (well if I'm honest I've owned 3 which is set to become 4 with ... more

Advantages Advantages Very playable and quite powerful

Disadvantages Disadvantages Difficult to get games

About a year ago, me and my wife were looking at buying our son a games console for his Christmas present and we did plenty of checking out because we wanted to make sure we were buying him the best we could. At that time there seemed to be a lot of conflicting messages as to which was the best, and we couldn't see anything to choose between them of any significance, so we opted for the safe route and chose the Nintendo 64 (or so we thought). Now a year on from that fateful choice, we're pretty happy with the N64 and have found it a pretty excellent choice, playing well and proving to be quite ... more
