Disadvantages Disadvantages Reflective screen is a problem

The original Game Boy was by far the best selling handheld console in the world. Along with games like Tetris and Super Mario, the Game Boy was a must-have for any video games fan. Nintendo went on to create the successful Game Boy Pocket which, though no better than the Original Game Boy in terms of power, was much smaller and more comfortable to hold. Then came Nintendo's Game Boy Colour, which sold millions of units in just a matter of months and was considered to be the most powerful hand-held console ever. This was still not enough however for Nintendo - despite their gargantuan profits ... more

From the Neo Geo Pocket to the Sega GameGear, one handheld console developer has always been crowned king, that developer goes by the name of Nintendo. Through their reign of terror we've come across the Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Colour, but nothing could have us prepared for what was to come - the Gameboy Advance! Yes, you heard me, another Gameboy. I can tell you now, it beats the other handhelds, but does that necessarily mean it's good? Read on... The design of the console is superb, Nintendo have put a lot of thought into it. Instead of the traditional 'Skyscraper' Gameboy style ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb system capabilites, game choice including back catalogue access

Disadvantages Disadvantages Screen issues, although solutions are available.

Following the enormous success of the Gameboy series of consoles from the very early 1990’s to the present day, Nintendo have thankfully revived the ageing 8 bit handheld console and blessed us gaming fans with the GameBoy Advance. (Not ‘Advanced’ as the Ciao category suggests!) The Nintendo handheld story has been the only one to stand the test of time. With their original GameBoy, and then upgraded versions such as the GameBoy Pocket, and Gameboy Colour, they have beat off any competition in the Handheld market, certainly in the UK at least. Who remembers Atari’s Lynx, Sega’s Gamegear, even ... more

The gameboy has long been a firm favourite of children and adults alike and has been the most successful console ever, outliving all other consoles which nintendo or any other company has produced, be it sony or sega. The gameboy has, since its launch way way back in 1989 it has now sold over 100 million units worldwide and has beaten all competition in the handheld sector too, such as sega's game gear or the neo geo pocket colour. Though successful, it couldn't last in its original incarnation as times change and other consoles are ever improving, it was just not feasible for the gameboy to ... more

Can Nintendo really make a SNES quality games console that fits in your hand? Can its games really challenge those of the Playstation? Can they offer it in 4 different colours with a multitude of cool accessories? Of course they can, they're Nintendo, and their latest little marvel is the Game boy Advance. This little beauty, hyped up for months before its release, was destined to outsell its predecessors in its first two weeks on the shelves, provide amazing 3D games, with full colour, and be able to fit in our pockets. And it certainly lives up to this destiny. The Game Boy Advance, now ... more

Advantages Advantages Big graphics and sound improvement

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor screen, game value

Fearful of being bored sometime during my six week stay in Canada, I saved up and bought a GameBoy Advance to keep me occupied. I bought it from GAME and with the help of a lovely female assistant I managed to get a new black GameBoy Advance, a free game (Wario 4), and three second hand games (F-Zero, Golden Sun and Doom) all for £100. I get home and I put in the inclusive batteries and I play Wario 4, expecting some of that classic platform gaming action... The screen is more widescreen than the previous generations of GameBoys, it has a nice display variety of colours, pretty much matching ... more

Advantages Advantages amazing graphics, bigger screen, better handling and multi-player capabilities.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather expensive!

While visiting a friend of mine I had the good fortune to try out his newest and most prized possession - the new Game Boy Advance! Having been given the original version of the Game Boy when I was at the tender age of eight, at it's first release in 1989, I have since become addicted to playing - at all hours of the day (and sometimes the night). In my opinion this is the first real update of the Game Boy - and I have to say that I'm impressed! The new design is very light (weighing in at 140g without batteries), easy to handle and even looks the part! They are available in purple, white ... more

The game boy advance is the newest handheld portable system from nintendo. Nintendo are a Japanese based company. The very first console that Nintendo brought out was the Nintendo Entertainment System about 12 years ago. This was only a 8 bit system. Followed by the super nintendo entertainment system about 8 years ago this was a 16 bit system. Then followed the old gameboy which was just a black and white screen with poor picture quality. We have also seen the N64 and the game boy colour from Nintendo. Then came the game boy advance. The game boy advance is light and rectangle in shape and ... more

Advantages Advantages More Comfortable To Hold, SNES Power in You Palm, Nintendo Games On The Move

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dim Screen, Games Can Be Costly

There is something bad to say about the gameboy advance so let's get it out of the way before we start so you all know. The screen is not the brightest screen in the world and as a battery saving option Nintendo decided not to back-light it. Whilst this does save the battery it means it is hard to play the GBA without a screen light of some sort. Of course, they're easily available and inexpensive so is it that bad? On to the good. The Game Boy Advance is the most powerful hand-held console in the world with all the power of the Super Nintendo console in the palm of your hand. It's capable of ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Prolonged gaming can cause wrist/hand strain

I bought the original Game boy when it was released back in 1989. After a few years I broke it (D’oh) and never bothered to get another one, or any of these GB Pockets or GB Colours. I just left it alone. But I missed it! So now I’m 12 years older and wiser and surely I’ve grown out of my Game Boy you may ask? Nah! I’ve been waiting for the GBA ever since I heard about it and so last week, on launch day, I picked one up. I haven’t stopped playing since! The GBA is as good as expected. The games really are as nice (in some cases) as Playstation games. They’re ... more
