Advantages Advantages great graphics, lots of good games (already out and due to come out)

Disadvantages Disadvantages not as powerful as other consoles

So, the Gamecube! I got this three summers ago, after wanting a Playstation 2, and I am glad I changed my mind to wanting a Gamecube. I have played Playstation 2s quite a lot with friends etc, and I don't deny that the PS2 has got a load of good games (and a lot more), but the graphics aren't quite as good as Gamecube's, and there should be lots more good games to come out. To me, this is one of the best consoles out there, and I don't agree with what lots of people say about all of the games being for kids. I think that this console has the best games. It has a selection of different genres ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, cheap, portable, discs are cute, powerful little blighter!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Needs memory card, some games come in multiple discs instead of just one disc so I have to swap discs... I'm lazy!

Nintendo had it good, the best console, the most recognised mascot around the world and most of the games developers were at their disposal. However one really bad executive decision nearly destroyed them completely, and that was to pull the plug on a CD device add-on for their 16bit Super Nintendo console, and sticking with memory cartridges to play it's games. Well, Sony who were developing the CD device decided that they weren't losing money because of a rather selfish Nintendo so released the CD add-on as a standalone 32bit console, the legendary Sony Playstation. Nintendo's bid on staying ... more

THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE If you’re reading this, it probably means you’re looking to buy a new console. Well, the Nintendo GameCube, my favourite console, would be a brilliant choice. And the reason being? Well, that’s what I’m going to try to explain throughout this topic. In brief, the GameCube has a fantastic selection of exclusive, semi-exclusive and multi-format games available and planned, including Nintendo’s classics. Combine that with a powerful console, and an obsession for quality gaming, and you’re only close to what the GameCube can achieve. Let’s take a closer look. GAMES Ah, by far ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazing power for a little box. Some good games

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't have all types of games, no DVD, mainly for younger children

I firmly believe that before purchasing a console one must be completely weary of the criteria it boasts and know exactly what it is capable of before purchasing. I therefore think of it almost as a duty to state the truth about the gamecube, and all advantages and disadvantages of buying it. The gamecube was released with fierce competition, the x-box and the Ps2. All three of these consoles boasted a new generation of graphics and companies such as EA and THQ were looking for the best to put on these new amazing games. However, a problem was that the gamecube was released after the ... more

The other week(at long last) I managed to get my hands on a Nintendo Gamecube, I was stood in electronics boutique tore between buying a X-box or Gamecube. But I made the decision and it was the right one aswell….. The Gamecube is the latest games machine from Nintendo, due to the N64’s(supposed)poor performance not many people have much faith in the Gamecube, however it is one of those things which you either love or you hate(like Marmite). The Gamecube is a small box shape which comes in a choice of colours, purple or black. The Gamecube has all the standard console buttons on it, such as the ... more

Advantages Advantages Fits nicely on top of my PS2, Games last ages, legendary game characters (Super Mario, Zelda, etc)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Nearly everyone's quit stocking games for it

When the Gamecube first came out, I didn't really think much of it..... with that Purple colour that was getting most the limelight not even being an Ultra cool iMac style see through plastic kind, which I reckon makes it now look a bit prematurely dated compared even the other colours it's available in (like black, for instance... which apparently was also available when launched, but the Purple one seemed to get pictured more). And then there was the Game disks...... Nintendo's first shot at a console using this medium, which works well...... but unlike it's Playstation2 & XBOX rivals ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice and compact | Powerful | Great games

Disadvantages Disadvantages Delay in PAL games | Little Internet support

This opinion has been changed to mark the one year anniversary of the GameCube. The main bulk of the opinion has not changed but I have removed the 'Incoming Games' section as those featured in it are now released. You can find major upcoming releases mentioned in the new section of the opinion 'One Year On' which focuses at how well the GameCube has performed both in commercial and personal terms. || Booting Up | From the start the Nintendo GameCube must have been doing something right. I am (or was) a die hard PC Gamer and consoles were of little interest for me. The launch of the ... more

Nintendo. The name itself brings about images of arcade-style gaming. But they’ve moved on now. No, really! The Gamecube is Nintendo’s fourth major home console (by home console I mean, er… home console. So, like, not 1 of those incredibly annoying Game Boy malarkeys, which reminds me, the Game Boy Advance SP is being released in March) but is really a like nothing they’ve ever done before. For a start, the ‘Cube is Nintendo’s first console to use discs, not cartridges. Previously, Nintendo have released the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), the SNES (SUPER Nintendo entertainment System ... more

The ‘kid’s console’, the least popular console – the worst console. The Nintendo GameCube is surrounded by many misconceptions, and myths. They mostly come from Nintendo’s own reputation, and from comments made on Internet forums. I want to give an honest opinion, and try to dispel some of these myths that surround the Nintendo console. Of course, I’m not going to pretend everything is hunky-dory, as every console has its own good points and faults. • Nintendo’s Reputation • The GameCube tends to be seen as a console for younger gamers, mainly because of the many games whose graphics feature ... more
