Review of Nintendo NES by dave27

Advantages: Wonderful games, marvellous memeories.
Disadvantages: Now a bit dated

...sheep worried a lot, the Nintendo SNES was one of the first true video games machines around for the home. Like another writer (and many others I guess), I got a SNES machine back in the early 90's. Me and Mrs D got it second hand from one of her cousins and conned ourselves (as you do) that it was actually for our young son (Yeah right!). It went up in the top of the wardrobe for Xmas and we got a couple of games (for him, you understand) to play ... Read review

Never Ever dismisS
Review of Nintendo NES by arcadionseyes

Advantages: great fun, great playability, excellent graphics later on
Disadvantages: some terrible games, block control pads from hell

My sister purchased this fine machine in the autumn of 1991 for the platry sum of 30 quid. We eagerly fetched it home, and played it in our front room, whooping in amazement at the clear and crisp graphics of Mario Bros. 2, the sublime sound, the non-finicky control, and best of all, the sheer fun of it all. You must understand, before this, we owned an Amstrad. We loved it, it played text adventures and wild bunch, but the graphics were never like ... Read review

I Kicked Mario's Butt Eight Thousand Times.
Review of Nintendo NES by Sarah_B

Advantages: Inexpensive, with a wide variety of games and a few accessories.
Disadvantages: Not nearly as capable as systems that came after it.

The eight-bit Nintendo Entertainment System was not the first product that this Japan-based company brought into existence. Rather, they have been around since the very early 1900s (yes, you read me correctly.) There were no such things as video games back then, but they DID release things such as Japanese board games and other "classic" forms of entertainment. In the mid-80s, Nintendo produced and released the best darned video game system for ... Read review

Nintendo NES better than PS2
Review of Nintendo NES by craiglenbel

Advantages: Cheap, reliable wide range of games
Disadvantages: Prone to dirt getting picked up on 72 pin connector

...classic console that is the Nintendo Entertainment System. What a buy it turned out to be. For £12 I picked up a console, 10 games, 2 controllers and a light gun. Now you may think that the NES is so dated compared to modern consoles that you couldn't enjoy playing the games. You'd be wrong. The playability of the NES is second to none and the range of games available is amazing. For one or two pound you can pick yourself up a copy of Mario 3 ... Read review

old, boxy, but good!
Review of Nintendo NES by naryan1

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

If you can remember these machines from years ago, then your probably already an adult. These machines at their time we're "The worlds most popular games console" long before sony ever knew how to produce anything similar. even though it about 16 slower than the dreamcast and PS2 (oh yep i checked the figures) these grey boxes of fun has the most challaging, original, well designed games of all, if you ever do find one lying around in a sale, there ... A classic among classics
Review of Nintendo NES by scaddingk

Advantages: Incredibly playable
Disadvantages: Bad graphics (Not at the time however)

Looking back on the NES, all I see is a glorious past. The playable, enjoyable games, although with not particularly brilliant graphics were the best. From time to time, I still play on my 10 year old NES, which has stood the test of time. However, comparing games, Super Mario 64 and the original Mario Bros are still as playable as ever, showing that anyone who sees one of these classic master pieces should go and buy one for novelty value, so 25 ... Quality system
Review of Nintendo NES by marto

Advantages: Quality system
Disadvantages: at peak of sales, games too costly

The Nintendo NES is such a quality system. Most of the games that came out for it are really cool even today, looks at wild gunman and operation wolf for use with the Zapper gun. The graphics, if the developer did put in the work, are really cool. Kids of all ages could enjoy most games. The only issue with the system was the cost of the games. In the UK you could expect to pay, at a point, £40 per game. The Hardware alone was about 100-120 depending ... Read review

Great console.
Review of Nintendo NES by Grix_Thraves

Advantages: Good fun when you go back to it.
Disadvantages: Graphics, obviously.

The Nes is one of those consoles, if you own one, where you are happy playing on your super console, everythings going fine, and then you think about the old games, the prequals to the ones you play now. Before you know it, you're ripping out your new console and plugging the NES back in, just for old times sake. Host of some of the finest single player platforms, and host to the marvoulous Mario brothers, this has to be one of the finest consoles ... Read review

Brilliant box!
Review of Nintendo NES by dec132

Advantages: Brilliant console
Disadvantages: no longer made

The nintendo NES was one of the first colour games consoles, and was released in the late 80's. It is grey, and very chuncky and boxy. The games availible on it really are absolute classics. Mario, and some brilliant sporting titles too. As production ceasesed almost a decade ago, if you find one BUY IT! Also, make sure it comes with games because no shops sell them! Anyone wanting a cheap but good console should buy one, some people sell them, with ... Read review

X-BOX!
Review of Nintendo NES by hamish

Advantages: A good back catalogue of games all of which are classics and easy to come by at cheap prices
Disadvantages: A machine really for die hard gamers due to the retro style of games available

The Nintendo NES.The popular European and American version of Nintendo's earlier Famicom.A classic in its day. It was after I started collecting computers that I got my hands on the grey little number. Two pads, five games - £10.00.You couldnt go wrong for that.I now have the NES placed in its own proud spot in my room beside my other consoles. The pure gameplay factor of the games notably the Mario and Zelda series always encourages me to leave my ... Classic machine
Review of Nintendo NES by bjlangley

Advantages: A classic
Disadvantages: Behind the times

The NEs life time has long passed. That doesn't mean that it wasn't any good. It has simply been superceded by superior technology. So hundreds of classic games are lost on the next generation with it. Okay so the graphics were not great and the sound at times was tinny but hey we loved it. Mario 3 was the best game ever...at the time. There were so many good games. If you still own some of the games you are allowed to download an emulator and play ... Read review

RETRO
Review of Nintendo NES by mygodyournaked

Advantages: good gaming
Disadvantages: hard to find now and games are no longer made

if you see this at a car boot sale for a fiver , buy it. It has some extremely fine examples of platformers and rpg 's . This is the console that started off the final fantasy series and first brought Mario to the home . As this console is now obsolete games are sold for next to nothing and you get such amazing games such as metroid mario 1 , 2 and 3 which are some of the best platformers around. if you are into retro games buy this console , if you ... Fantastic!
Review of Nintendo NES by EdFear

Advantages: Cheap, good games, nostalga!
Disadvantages: "Ouch" controller, can become worn out

The NES was the first machine I owned as a child, and so I have very fond memories of it. The system looks like a breeze block (in those days they didn't care for looks) and the front loading mechanism is great... it feels like a toaster :) The controller is really a block, and I can imagine it hurting during prolonged periods of play. However, the best thing about the NES is it's price - they are so damn cheap! And you can get the games off of eBay ... Read review

Review of Nintendo NES by dodswa

Advantages: fantastic
Disadvantages: nothing

...fantastic. i cant wait till the nintendo revolution, its supposed to have cartridge games just like the nes the snes and the n64, this means that graphics can be improved on the game as the graphics chip is inside the cartridge and no1 can copy games so nintendo gets more money, and why shouldnt it its a great company which makes fantastci consoles. if you have a nes cherish it and play those classical games i envy you. i want a nes again, not ...
