When I bought my original PlayStation I got the console and a demo disk. When I bought my Nintendo Wii I got the console and a full free game. What sounds like the better deal to you? Not since the Sega Master System II have I seen a better console/free included game combination that wasn\'t some special offer or launch deal. (By that I mean no matter when you buy the product you\'ll get this game/console combo) I\'ve been keeping a watchful eye on these next generation consoles for a long time now; first out the stable gate was the XBOX 360 from Microsoft and then came along the PlayStation 3 ... more

Despite lackluster showings in the past two gaming generations, Nintendo seems to be getting their momentum back, as the Nintendo DS dominates the portable community and their newest console, the Wii, is off to a flying start. Slim, slick, innovative and readily fun, is this wee little machine really bringing us the gaming revolution? ~~The Package~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The standard Wii Package has a suggested retail price of £179, significantly less than the year-old Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Exact figures vary as both competitors market 2 separate versions of their products, with the price ... more

This may sound hard to believe but as of March 8th the Wii will have been on the European market for four months, that's a third of a year, and I can't believe it has been that long since the stories of console shortages and flying controllers hit the news. For those that live under a rock, the Wii is Nintendo's fifth home console, following in the footsteps of; NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube. I say following in the footsteps, but in the sense of 'what comes next', the Nintendo Wii took a giant leap that needed to be taken in order to keep Nintendo in competition with Sony and Microsoft. They ... more

    Advantages Advantages Totally interactive gaming..

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only four players at a time..

Ok so like the majority of the country when they were first released I was as excited about the Nintendo Wii, as the next person.. However, being a poor student at the time I resigned myself to the fact I wasn't going to get one for a very long time, well at least until they came below a hundred pounds or when Nintendo released the next console.. Which saddened me slightly.. Then.. One of my best friends got one, my boyfriends mum got one, one of my parents friends got one and I got slowly more annoyed because I wanted to play..! What is it with consoles and bringing out the child in us all ... more

Christmas 2006 was a very happy occasion for our family, as at last the Nintendo Wii was unwrapped. We had pre ordered it and had been very good at not using until Christmas, so as you can imagine the excitement had been growing and it was really worth the wait. What was inside the box. Upon opening the box we were presented with; The Wii console, (along with a stand and cables to attach it to the television) The power supply for the Wii. One Wii remote controller (this is wireless and has the batteries included and a wrist strap that should always be used). One "Nunchuk" (this is another ... more

I own many games consoles, - Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and the Wii. I have to admit, I used to prefer the playstation simply because I thought the games released were better, however recently I have found myself preferring the nintendo wii for many reasons, including the fact that it is more family orientated and there are health benefits. The wii can be bought in many electronic stores, as well as online. I think prices can range from £200 to £300 usually, although wii's are often found in competitions as good prizes too. Luckily I got mine off a friend for fairly cheap. Some may find it a ... more

Advantages Advantages easy game play, lots of onine games to download, wireless internet conectivity, now read >2GB card

Disadvantages Disadvantages not enough storage space (need a lot of 2GB SD cards to store the downloaded games).

Latest update (13 th Dec 2009): The latest Wii firmware version 4.2 offers the ability of the console to read SD card that is > 2GB. I put a 4GB SD card in and it does read it and I can see more 'block's available for my card (2GB card ~ 14000 blocks; 4GB card ~ 27000 blocks). Since it can read the new SDHC format card, the storage in a single card can now extend to 16GB or beyond. I can a couple of the Wii ware games stored in the card too, without the need to transfer them to the console memory and so forth. Good move Nintendo! Price: The price has dropped significantly. In fact there was a ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, Dated, Pointless rival to the Xbox, Clammy hands!

Goodness! This review that I am about to write makes me feel slightly old! It was back in 2006 the Nintendo Wii came out. I cannot believe we are now in 2012 (almost)! I remember the day the Wii came out- because at the time we were shopping in Asda- I actually had no intention of buying this console seeing as I already have the Xbox 360 and the older PS2. However I had heard allot of great feedback on the Wii seeing as it was cutting edge at the time of launch as the console was meant to encourage active play- so out came a handful of notes and in return we received the Wii with the Wii fit ... more

Advantages Advantages Great games for all

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly flawed marketing

There are some very mixed reviews here so I'd like to make my own points which will hopefully help people in their decision as to whether to buy one. First of all, it has been marketed incredibly cleverly, based on one point that makes it different (the motion sensor). Also, making it almost impossible to get hold of, a trick copied from Sony which I don't agree with, made it a hit when it first came out. So, as you'll know it's a games console designed by Nintendo. It also has features such as Internet browsing, photo presentations, downloadable games etc. It doesn't play DVDs, although most ... more

Back in the mists of time, in an age long ago (well it was actually the 1980s) a great war started. It pitted man against machine. Brave men battled against the fiendish machines, whether it be to save the universe, complete an epic quest or to just shoot animated ducks out of the sky. This war was known as THE CONSOLE WARS!!! Anyway, I can't write a review in such a tone as I've started it so I'll stop the sillyness and get down to some simple background like I usually do. Back in the 1980s two main consoles were released, the Nintendo NES and the Sega Mastersystem. Back then consoles were ... more
