5 Stars Nirvana 'Grunge Gods' Review with images 25/11/2004

What Nirvana gave me was the unrivalled joy of their music, the unrivalled adoration for their front man, the unrivalled attention to rock music, and then the unrivalled sadness of ’that’ day in 1994. Every year it comes round, that day when Cobain put that shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Despite that not being my beliefs as to what happened, I wish to steer clear of that topic because I simple can’t handle it right now. Whether you like the punk edge ‘Bleach’, the epic ‘Nevermind’ or the raw ‘In Utero’, Nirvana catered for all tastes, and even the people that believe them to be ... more

With the release of the long-awaited Nirvana ‘With The Lights Out’ CD/DVD Box Set almost upon us, I thought it was about time I wrote a piece on my favourite band, chronicling everything from the band to the albums, the success to the failure ……. And of course, the final moments ! What Nirvana gave me was the unrivalled joy of their music, the unrivalled adoration for their front man, the unrivalled attention to rock music, and then the unrivalled sadness of ’that’ day in 1994. Advantages Advantages Nice chronological catalogue of Nirvana's commercial success

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough for hardcore fans

Here we have another milking of the cash cow that is Teen Spirit. Grunge is gone, but teen angst is always going strong, and it needs a soundtrack to match it’s ever-present intensity. Nirvana will be one of the staple bands generation after generation, therefore this greatest hits album is a perfect starting point for the post-90s grunger looking to lick their wounds. Nirvana broke into the mainstream in the early 90s after a short period of underground success and punk rock credibility. When ‘it’ happened, there was equal outrage and celebration. The underground reeled the ... more

Advantages Advantages The digitally-remastered sound of Cobain's Grunge-Coda Is pure Nirvana

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Demons Cobain Left Behind Maintain His Estate, But Not His Vision.

. "HOPE I DIE BEFORE I TURN INTO PETE TOWNSHEND..." ...Reads an entry jotted in one of the notebook journals left behind by Nirvana's astrally onward-traveling frontman, Kurt Cobain. A score of years after a point-blank blast from the business end of a Remington 22 gauge shotgun transformed that sentiment into prophecy, Cobain's other commerce-reincarnating, corporeal counterparts, Nirvana bandmates Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Geffen/Universal Records, along with Courtney Love, have seen fit to reconcile their long-term differences and grace us with a "fiscally forward-looking" greatest ... more

Advantages Advantages Musical angst ridden genious

Disadvantages Disadvantages Life long depression etc.

Born 20th of February 1967 in Hoquaim near Seattle, Kurt Cobain lived a happy childhood. His mother a cocktail waitress and his father a car mechanic. He was born a care free child, always smiling and cheerful to the end. At age six, he and the family soon moved to the slowly decaying town of Aberdeen in search of work. It was here where Kurt’s life started to go down hill for the first time. Life in the area was hard on his parents, and the strain started to show, fights broke out between them and ultimately divorce was just around the corner. Kurt found the immense instability too hard ... more

Advantages Advantages To suggest that "advantages" or "disadvantages" can exist for a particular band is inappropriate

Disadvantages Disadvantages To suggest that "advantages" or "disadvantages" can exist for a particular band is inappropriate

I am writing this review as a fan of Nirvana who has been left frustrated after reading too much misinformation surrounding this band and their musical genre. I am also concerned with statements regarding this bands talent or lack of it. As such the following statements may stray away slightly from what is typically expected from a "review". Contrary to popular belief, Nirvana were neither a grunge band or the founders of "grunge" as it is interpreted today. Grunge was a term formulated by Seattle music journalists to describe the fashion trends that had been adopted by a lot of the Seattle ... more

Advantages Advantages Lyrics Change you outlook on life for good.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lyrics Change you outlook on life for good.

The reason I wrote, "Lyrics Change you outlook on life for good." is because it does change your outlook/perception on life and the many obstacles through out it in a good way and a bad way. I love Nirvana and hold great admiration for Kurt Cobain's lyrics and innner thoughts, outlooks etc.. He was a God and took his music seriously and obviously did not realise the effect positive/negative it was going to have on people. Kurt never thought highly of himself and thought of himself as an average due when really he was a Christ Like Figure to millions. Although Kurt Cobain is dead his music will ... more

Advantages Advantages He truly was unique. We will never forget him

Disadvantages Disadvantages Is it possible that anyone could ever follow him up?

Kurt Donald Cobain b. February 20th 1967 d. April 5th 1994 Kurt Donald Cobain was born in Hoquaim near Aberdeen, Washington, to Wendy and Donald Cobain. As a young child, he was bright yet receptive and from as early as the age of two expressed an interest in music. He beat his Mickey Mouse drum to the radiogram records of the Monkees and the Beatles. Kurt’s aunt Mary gave him his first guitar lessons when Kurt was 6 but he found it difficult to sit still as any 6 year old would. His parents took Kurt to see specialists who diagnosed him as hyperactive. He was prescribed Ritalin, an ... more

    Advantages Advantages The whole album

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None, absolutely none

This album is the epitome of what a greatest hits album should be. It encompasses all the elemts of the band and their music which have given them their legendary status. From the never before released opening track 'You know you're right', to the anthemic 'Smells like teen spirit' and the brilliance of a live version of 'where did you sleep last night' this album offers you everything you ever wanted to hear about Nirvana. Based on image alone this album looks rather unimpressive and bland with just a black sleeve with Nirvana written in silver. The back cover is also black with the rack ... more

Advantages Advantages Just read the opinion.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Ditto.

I like Nirvana, honestly, I really do. I’m a 15 year old lazy mop-haired teenage boy who’s pissed off at the world, how could I not? Nirvana is probably the band for any self-proclaimed teenage “rocker”, their music is like the anthem to a teenagers’ depression, it’s the music that understands and nurtures your tender emotions without laughing and making you feel stupid because you have the wrong attitude to everything, how could I simply turn this down and just say “no”? I can’t, it’s too hard to resist, I can try my best to be ... more
