5 Stars We can with this Nissan! Review with images 25/03/2005

Advantages Advantages Excellent build quality, great handling, comfortable, efficient, reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dull as ditchwater, Model will be replaced in 2006.

Finally we are rid of our horrid Fiat Punto (see earlier review) and have opted to consolidate the two vehicles (see even earlier Civic review) into one lump of metal. Months of research later, we ignored all we'd read and opted to go and test drive the latest model 1.5 SE five-door Nissan Almera. We loved it so much, we bought it. Six months on (and way over the average mileage in that time!), here's my views of our new baby... Looks Sorry, did I just miss that? It's very much a blink-and-miss it car. Take the new Vauxhall Astra. Then curve it round a bit more. Still missed it? It's likely ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliability. Low insurance costs. Well equipped. Low price. Overall a good value family car.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very poor performance. Poor fuel economy.

~ ~ Nissan motor cars have long been renowned for their reliability and longevity. In other words, they rarely break down or need expensive replacement parts, and they run on and on for literally hundreds of thousands of miles without complaint. I can verify from personal experience that the above statement is the truth. In my day I've owned a Nissan Sunny, no less than FIVE Nissan Bluebirds, a Nissan Primera, and two Nissan Maxima QX's. None have cost me big bucks in maintenance or repairs, all completed mega-miles, and most were a pleasant and comfortable car to drive. Two or three were even ... more

Advantages Advantages Well-equipped, should be reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Drives like a cart horse

As my own car was off the road for a few days, I had the dubious pleasure of driving a Nissan Almera 1.5 Hurricane as my courtesy car. I was quite pleased to receive this car as my prior courtesy car experiences had been a Citroen Saxo and Nissan Micra – both a tad on the small side for my 6ft 4in frame. Plus this Almera had five doors – a definite help in getting the child seat in and out and it was only two months old with just under 3,000 miles on the clock. The Almera range includes E, S, SE, Sport, SE+, and Sport+ trim levels, all available in three and five door hatchbacks as well as a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Comfortable, affordable, reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very 'middle of the road'

Firstly, let me just say that I know very little about cars. Subsequently, this review should be viewed as something akin to the 'Idiots guide to Nissan Almera'. In other words, I'll use basic language and get straight to the point... The Nissan Almera 1.5 series seems to be a firm favourite with those companies with a tendency to dish out company cars. Yes, my current one is indeed company owned which is rather nice as it's rather a good car. Annoyingly, my one is only 3-door but there are certainly 5-door models available. The Almera is designed for small families- slightly bigger than the ... more

Advantages Advantages The most reliable car I have ever owned.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sexy, it is not!

All my life I have driven a succession of Fords and Vauxhalls. The Nissan Almera was the first foreign car I ever purchased and 5 years later it is still with me and going strong. The real strength of this model is its reliability, nothing ever goes wrong with it and maintainance bills are negligible. In the time I have owned and driven the Almera over 30k a year on the Uk's congested roads it has never let me down. The only slight niggle was a power steering leak two years ago that did not even incur a garage bill, I simply drove into my local dealer and complained about the red fluid leaking ... more

Advantages Advantages Tough, Reliable, Comfortable, excellent composed chassis

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lively ride, dull steering and ride

I had an Almera as a company car in which i covered 15,000 miles after owning a Pug 309 GTI. Lets say these are two completely diferent cars. I found the Almera fairly dull to drive, but largely similar in character to a few other models. One model which comes to mind is the last Rover 400/45. Most people will find it easy to drive and get along with. The chassis balance is lovely and the road holding safe and grippy although the damping and spring rates are too soft, which, coupled with the dull steering makes it feel 'soft'. It is comfortable over a long journey, although overly lively on ... more

    Advantages Advantages comfortable n cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no torque

I bought a nissan almera six months ago at first i was very impressed even though it has absolutley no power under the hood. It is comfortable reletivley noise free except for the incredabley loud banging from the wipers when the rubber pulls in the opposite direction (happens on all almeras i have checked four others) and you get about 400 miles for 65euro in the tank @ 1.30 per liter. The interior is attractive in the 02 model from 03 on renault make all nissans for europe and put a horrible computer screen on the dash and wrecked what was an attractive steering wheel. the sound system ... more

    Advantages Advantages Reliable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Colour

I really think the Nissan Almera 1.5 (2002 2 door) is a great car. I have had mine for 3 months now. I got it at 80000miles and I use it regularly. I drive a lot between london and oxford without any problem to date. On average £10 worth of petrol (10 litres approx) gives me about 50-60 miles. Boot space is pretty sufficient. It takes a couple of large laguages and our weekly shopping fits well. Only draw back is I have the two door instead of four. However no complaints. Back seats are sufficient for three people. Parking has not been a problem due to power steering and size of car. I have ... more

Advantages Advantages amazing drive, so comfortable, fairly economical, looks so funky!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages havent come across any yet!

I have the 05 model of this car (in black) for almost two weeks now, and I love it! It has it all, power steering, part leather seats, air con, huge boot space, central locking, sunglasses holder and the all important curry hook!! It has so many hidden storage spaces and amazing speakers. It is a wonderful drive, and I feel so safe in my almera! I would fully recommend this car to anyone looking for something reliable, with lots of space, yet funky and easy to drive! As a 23 year old female, I find this the perfect step up car for women in their 20s. I went from a '93 micra to the almera, and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Large boot

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Understeer is dangerous

Nissan Almera 1.5 Good fuel economy getting around 35-40mpg Large boot space Mine is 5 door lots of space in the back and it has a safe seat belt for somebody sitting in the middle in the back because it is a normal seat belt so not a lap belt. it is quite when cruising on a motorway the dials are clear and easy to understand It is Japanese so is built to last. All services have been relatively cheap and no major work has been needed. The clutch and gearbox are light and easy to drive around in busy traffic However in the wet it under-steeres and it can be dangerous it has no power and is ... more
