X-Trail on trial

Advantages: Style, advanced technology , well laid out interior design
Disadvantages: supply and I can't afford one!

...experience of building 4x4's makes Nissan one of the longest established manufacturers. Nissan have cleverly combined 4x4 chunky looks and a level of passenger car comforts and performance to give an exiting and elegant vehicle with extreme on/off road capabilities. The general styling from the Terrano and Patrol have been adopted so that at-a-glance any one can see it is from the Nissan Range. It comes in three trim levels S, Sport and SE+, a choice ...
...4x4 is based around the Nissan Skyline GT-R system and uses very advanced electronics to give each wheel it's optimum drive in all conditions within an instant and the X-Trail is the first vehicle in its class to do so. Other vehicles use a system that pressurises and brings in drive to one axle when the other starts to slip, this is slow and actually takes several rotations of wheels slipping before activating by which time you could be buried in ...

This is how motoring should be !

Advantages: A 4x4 that handles like a saloon
Disadvantages: Diesel turbo currently an unresolved problem it seems

...weekends as well. The Nissan X Trail fits the bill perfectly. I chose the Sport variant with the 2.2 Diesel engine which has the 6 speed gearbox. On the motorway, the car is quiet, responsive, and the high seat position offers an excellent view of what's going on ahead. On more windy roads, the diesel pulls and pulls even in 6th, and handles the corners far better than a lot of 4x4s. Again the high seat position is great, offering a better view ...
...in the centre, it means Nissan could put an extra glove box on the drivers side. They also put a power socket in there, which is really useful, and I use it to power my satnav. The engine is diesel, and you are certainly aware of that on initial startup. Drive away, however, and it soon quietens, and is a pleasure to drive. There is a 'nasty noise' however, its been likened to a box of marbles, and you hear it at about 2500 rpm as you accelerate ...

Advantages: Looks, space, comfort, torque , fuel economy for big vehicle, reliability
Disadvantages: no cruise control, no on board computer (well I had to say something)

...It has the well tested Nissan brak assist and ABS and they are very good. I have had occasion to do an emergency stop at 40mph and the vehicle reacted well and better still stopped quickly. Audio Good sound system with 6 cd cahnger which is dash mounted. Ther are also steering wheel controls which I find usefull Space Oceans of space. There is lots of storage space but my favourite is the compartment located behind the steering wheel it is very usefull for items you may require to hand whislt driving, you know camera, mobile phone and toaster. This space is of course where the relocated clocks would have been and is quite innovative. Down side For the class of car and cost I think it should have ...

...middle. In the front, Nissan have altered the dials and controls, and made them more user friendly. They are the same as the ones they use in the sports car they build (can't remember what it's called at the mo), and anyone will find them very easy to understand. There is quite a bit of storage space in the X-Trail, obviously the door buckets, and the glovebox, although the glovebox also opens upwards as well as down so you avtually have 2 compartments ...

This is in addition to the 12v cigar lighter in the centre console, and the one in the bootspace! There are two cupholders in the front, and if you have aircon, these are also adjustably chilled! There is also a chilled box in the centre console (maybe for sarnies etc?). The stereo is fantastic - excellent sound quality from the 6 CD player (you ...

The X-trail...has the X-factor !

Advantages: Practical, well built, more than capable off-road for most
Disadvantages: Engines are noisy when pushed

...car being reviewed is the Nissan X-trail, Sports expedition model which includes a list of extras a: Satnav, rear view parking camera, climate control aircon, and a switch for the transmission, which allows the driver to choose between 4WD, 2WD, or 4WD with lock differential. The X-trail will also automatically switch between 2WD and 4WD when it detects a wheel slipping. Plus the added easy to open glass sunroof, made the car feel even more spacious. ...

X Trail

Advantages: Good driving position; ability to select driving mode
Disadvantages: none

I visited the Nissan garage wishing to exchange my existing Almera for another - until I saw the X Trail on the forecourt. I must say before I continue with the review the X Trail I bought is an import to the UK and contains non-standard equipment. The XTrail cost me £14,000 in July 2002 - the factor that the Almera I had intended to purchase was nearly the same cost I decided to go with the XTrail with its larger interior, superior driving position ...
...as a recreational 4x4 - in other words great for the townie who does not need full 4x4 capabilities 100% of the town but would like to have the option to switch to this when necessary. The X Trail does this at the flick of a button. It has three modes; in summary these are general road driving, automatic 4x4 (the 4x4 necessity kicks in when it is detected as being needed; and full 4x4 when it's on permanently) this is great for the driver to determine ...

X-Trail - Good, but could have been so much better

Advantages: Comfy, roomy, high off the road and plenty of umph
Disadvantages: Sad lack of facilities and information for the keen driver

...I aspired to change my Nissan Primera for an X-Trail. I was impressed with their looks and the constant accolades they received from "What Car?" and others. I was also very impressed with they way they seemed to take to the road with consummate ease, sail past in the outside lane on the motorway and to glide over the road bumps like an elegant ballroom dancer! In October I had the opportunity to change my car and bought a second-hand (2004) 2.2 ...

The features that are missing are : an interior light inside the main glove box, a map-reading light (not necessarily just for reading maps), lights either side of the courtesy mirrors on the sun visors and proper driving information. A critical issue for me is the lack of a separate thermometer reading for checking the outside temperature. ...

Quick review of Nissan X-Trail

Having purchased a 55 xtrail used sve 2.2 turbo diesel in January 08 with 16,400 miles we were absolutely delighted.Since the dateof purchase we have only added7,600 miles,to our surprise the clutch has burnt out.Needless to say we are now faced with a horendous bill that needs to be paid.If there are any other owners or drivers out there which have incured the same problem I would like to read your review. We are both middle aged drivers with 40 years experience each & not F1 fast get away merchants. Apart from this we feel the car has all the comforts & high spec we need. ...

Nissan X-trail for 2007

Advantages: Loads of gadgets, stylish and reliable
Disadvantages: noisy engine when cold. Satnav sometimes not accurate

...the Austrian ski resorts, the Nissan X-trail showed just what a 4 x 4 car is all about. I put car into "automatic 2WD/4WD" and let the car decide what the drive should be. Snow chains are a thing of the past with this technology. The car coped admirably with 4 adults and a roof box full of skis poles and boots. Despites lots of luggage in the car there was ample room for everyone to travel in comfort. On the down side, the built-in 'Birdview' satellite ...

Quick review of Nissan X-Trail

I have owned three Xtrails, starting with the 2.00SE+ auomatic in 2002, the 2.2SVE DCI (136) in 2004 and then the 2.2 Aventura DCI(136) in 2006. The Aventura is slightly noisier that the SVE by virtue of a stricter emission (euro iv), which although frustrating does not reduce the effectiveness of the vehicle. I have also driven the new Xtrail due on sale in September 2007. ...

Quick review of Nissan X-Trail

Possibly the most appalling car I have ever owned - beats Lancias easily! Nissan have absolutely no ability to diagnose faults. The car has failed every MOT since new on emissions and despite reporting this UNDER WARRANTY Nissan ignored us. Stuttering set in and Nissan (the Hi Tech from the manufacturer) first said it was the fuel filter (£100+ to replace a paper filter?) then when that did not fix it, apparently then it was the Injectors that needed replacing (£1000+) - In the end an independent specialist diagnosed it to the fuel pump (£1800 for the part from Nissan) - and you have to take the engine out to replace it! A fundamental design flaw - according to their dealers - Be warned get something else! ...

Nissan X-trail had the strong model with design like the box that made the typical characteristics to be special, high the roof was not very high like the car SUV other.
