...has both bluetooth and infrared Nokia supply a data cable which is ideal for transfering large files such as video and music. Synchronisation works well and software is available for converting files. (Nokia have some tools on their web site but I use something called "Super" which is quirky but does a good job).
The 6280 boasts 3G and GPRS but, as with all internet over mobiles that I've seen, it doesn't strike me as broadband on the move! The ... ...break its fall. The Nokia 6280 has taught me to have a bit more care! It certainly won't take the usual abuse. I've only dropped it once and though it still works the two halves don't match up as well as they used to!
So in summary this isn't a bad device. It hasn't stopped me having to own all my other gadgets (phew!) but I can go out without being laden down with them and still take some reasonable snaps and listen to music or watch a video if ...

...Sharp, Sony Erricson, Samsung and Nokia and found the Nokia holds battery life longer, gets a stronger signal in our area and the calls are clearer. My only requirements were for a camera and for a free phone as up to date as possible (I knew 18 months is a long time by mobile standards), this phone ticked these boxes.
It is a slide style, the front panel slides up a couple of inches to reveal the keypad, although many features can be used without ... ...the front lower panel. The main options such as 'menu' and 'vodafone live' are shown on the bottom left, right or middle of the screen and you just press the buttons directly under the option you require. Easy! The sliding mechanism is nice and smooth with an audible click when it's in the correct position, and there is a handy little 'ledge' just under the screen you can use to open and shut the slider although it is quite thin, anyone with large ...

The Phone
Having waited patiently for my phone, it arrived; I had not even seen the phone so had no idea what I was getting. I opened the package and was surprised to see this was a sliding mechanism phone; very similar to the popular Samsung models of 2004. Everything with this phone was a surprise because I had no idea of the features of the phone. 3G stands for 3rd Generation, the 3rd generation phones began being released in 2002, and they take up less airspace and allow for high quality video signal to be transmitted effectively.

...a big difference from a Nokia 5140i which I have had in the past, where you need to push the keys really hard, but the 6280 is much better in this respect. The markings on the keys of my 5140i started to come off after a few months as well, but the keypad on this still looks as good as new after about 5 months.
The Screen:
This phone has a massive screen (320x240 pixels, 2.3 inches) which means that it can fit loads of lines of text on at once, ... ...(downloaded for free from the Nokia website), it is fairly easy to install applications, download photos, backup your phone onto your computer, synchronise contacts and calendar with MS Outlook, or load music onto your phone. There are also a couple of other features such as connecting your pc to the internet through your phone, but I have never needed to do this.

The phone comes with all the cables and software you will need to connect the phone to any computer with a USB port. Alternatively you can use the Infrared option (slower) or the more up-to-date Bluetooth option (better speeds). Manage your phonebook ... ...The battery lasts a good length of time, providing you are not using the radio, music player, Bluetooth or internet functionality. Any of these things dramatically reduces the batteries charge. I find I prefer to keep my Bluetooth on most of the time when I am using my laptop as I have access to the phones' content and memory stick and can use it as a storage device, as well as have access to my phone book with the ability to type up text messages ...

The nokia 6280 has most of the mod-coms of a new phone.
Tri-band.
Colour display.
Voice and 2 way video calling.
Slide opening.
2 mega pixal camera x 2, that has an 8x digital zoom and an integregated flash.
A memory card with 64 meg (supplied with phone).
Internet access, where you can read your e-mails, send messages, search web sites.
... ...so if you've had a nokia before, so you know where everything is, however, if this is the first time having a nokia, you have to read the handbook to understand the phone.
Durability and Robustness?
My phone has been dropped down marble stairs a couple of time. When i picked up my phone, battery and back fallen off, there were no scratches and the display wasn't faulty in any way.

...a shop to unlock my Nokia 6630 and being told numerous times there was no chance due to a new coding system called BB5 and would cost upwards of £150.00 to unlock from the service provider I decided to invest in a new phone and that phone would be the Nokia 6280.
So the Nokia 6280 is a 3G slide phone although it is not a smart phone(but has all the capabilities, the difference being it don’t have a symbian operating system).
The main thing that ... ...layout has all fairly new Nokia phones so finding things is easy.
However this is where the party ends, has I has previously said about the big screen, well this would be great if the quality of the camera and video was any good to say it’s a 2.0 megapixels it’s actually far less superior to my Nokia 6630’s 1.3 megapixel camera which was superb.

The nokia 6280 is intended to be a competitor for the likes of the Samsung D500/600 series. These kind of slide action phones are coming back into fashion in a big way, and this Nokia has bags of style. My friends won't stop picking it up when I leave it lying around! For me, the looks of this phone far surpass those of the Samsungs and the biggest selling point has got to be the screen size. Its HUGE! The 2Megapixel camera makes full use of this. ... ...controls and navigation are concerned, Nokia have hit a superb format with the square 4-way cursor you can make out on the picture. I can honestly say I have never pressed a wrong button on this phone simply because this design is so efficient and idiot-proof, with the action button lowered in the middle of the cursor square. As Nokia are renound for their durability when it comes to mobile phones I felt confident that my purchase of the 6280 would be a good one. I was, however sadly disappointed.
The 6280 appears to be the one phone that Nokia gave up on; by this I mean although various software faults were reported to Nokia after the launch of this phone, They decided that instead of improving the product they wrote it off as a bad job and moved onto the Nseries. The ... ...to the software faults however, Nokia also decided to change the charger connector for this phone, so all previous Nokia chargers were not campatible. This made the phone increasingly difficult for anyone on the go to use as if you forgot your charger, it was almost impossible to find a friend with one that worked. Combine this with a phone whos batterylife is shorter than an episode of Coronation Street and its a recipie for disaster!

I got my Nokia 6280 as part of my upgrade package. At first I was disappointed with the phone and contacted Vodafone to organise a pick-up and alternative phone. I felt there was no way on an 18 month contract that this phone would survive! However, the more I played with the phone itself, the more I wanted to keep it.

The Nokia 6280 is a great phone at the low-mid range price bracket. It has a lot of features that similarly priced phones have and while none of them are exactly top of the line they're above average.
As a phone it's very good, but it also offers a music player, radio tuner, basic PIM options such as calendar, appointment scheduling, sync. options with PC, a web browser plus Tri-band GSM and 3G connectivity. There is support for Java programs and ... ...are small programs that you can install on the phone such as mobile versions of instant messengers like MSN, RSS news readers, a mobile version of the Opera web browser, dictionaries, basic games and a lot of other programs too.
The music player is fairly decent, although you'll need a memory card if you want to listen to music as the phone has a very small amount of memory on-board. The 6280 uses SD Micro cards and I can confirm personally that ...

This is quite a nice looking slide phone, the actual size is 100 x 46 x 21 mm and weighs 115 gr. The screen is a decent size - 262.144 colour display - 320 x 240 pixel.
CAMERA

...by taking it to a Nokia service centre (located allover the UK) and having the software upgraded to the latest version. Another major problem with this phone is that dust can get inside the screen very easily. Once again this has to be taken to a service centre to be cleaned.
Once these problems have been resolved the phone is a great little device. The 2 Megapixel camera is very easy to use and there is even a button on the side of the unit so ... ...to enlarge them afterwards.
Nokia have kindly included a data cable with this camera so that you can quickly link the phone to your PC to transfer images and videos to and from your PC. The 6280 takes a micro SD memory card to enable expanded capacity for photos, videos and MP3s.
Although this phone does support email it can be quite fiddly to set up if you are using a pop email server that is not recognised by the phone. There is an add on to ...

It has springs which hold it open and closed so that it doesn't flop about or slide open on its own.
Making calls is straightforward, although when the keypad is revealed, I found that the top row of keys are very close to the top sliding part of the phone, so it's not so easy to dial "by touch". It brought to mind an episode of The Simpsons ("The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. ... ...The menus, like all Nokia phones I've used, are well structured and easy to navigate. This is especially so with the huge, colour display, which is razor-sharp.
I found that the battery lasted me over a week on one charge, although I'm not actually a heavy mobile phone user, so I guess that's why.
The mp3 player is good quality through the supplied ear-phones, although the 64Mb Mini-SD card is a bit limiting in terms of the number of tracks you ...

The Nokia 6280 is a great phone, has lots of features, small with a slide down feature, which makes it easier to place in pockets or similar places. I am going to list most of the main features available on this phone, I may not list them all because the list will be a bit too long, but I will do my best.

- Fast USB file transfers (Full Speed USB 2.0)

- MP4 ... ...went and checked on the Nokia website. The phones weight is: 115g that's including the battery.
