    Advantages Advantages Lots of features.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, outdated

With all the talk of bluetooth, Cameras on phones and colour screens, the supposed "next generation" phones never quite delivered the goods when they were released about 2 or 3 years ago. The big innovation from Nokia was this phone which folded in half to reveal a small PC within your phone. I was sceptical but at work, we were given them free to try about 6 months ago. I gave mine a good going over and here are the results (although rather late!). Looks/design. ------------- Somewhat odd. With its aluminium loking outer casing, it was trying to jump into the space age and away from the ... more

Advantages Advantages just one device for mobile phone and palmtop computing

Disadvantages Disadvantages not yet the best you can imagine

The Nokia 9210 is not just a mobile phone, it is called 'communicator' which indicates that it is far more than just a mobile phone. In fact, the Nokia communicator is one of the so called all-in-one devices which combine the function of a mobile phone with functions of a PDA or palmtop computer. In it's early days, the Nokia communicator indeed was the mother of all those all-in-one devices, somewhat futuristic for those early days. Now there are similar offers available from other manufacturers (Motorola, Sagem, etc.), and a few years further into the future, it will be very uncommon to have ... more

Advantages Advantages Getting cheaper, came with free low res still camera

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small screen, poor interface, and low bandwidth.

Updated 10/2/2002 ----------------- Just to add some of the points I missed off and have been added back as feedback. I purchased the communicator without a sim (i.e. no mobile phone contract), this was expensive and cosy £640.00 but meant I wasn't tied to a single provider and also meant that I could sell on the communicator if I didn't like it. Currently you can buy the 9210 without contract for around £500.00, or as low as £330.00 on Cellnet/Vodafone with contract or anything from £100.00-£400.00 on Orange (depending the contract). On standard mobile phone contract/sim you can get 9.6 kps ... more

Advantages Advantages It's probably a bargain now!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages It's a brick!

Right where do I start, rather than boring you with all the things this phone does, I'll try and outline what I've found useful. If I tried to cover everything the 9210 Communicator did you'd be here till next wednesday still reading and hey I mean that. Don't get me wrong it is a fantastic piece of craftsmanship, but at this point I'd better say it is rather large compared to the average mobile phone. You may also find it difficult to purchase one nowadays, unless of course you search for a secondhand item. Having said that, I would say for a mobile phone I find it a valuable asset. Although ... more

    Advantages Advantages has everything

    Disadvantages Disadvantages heavy

I saw this in the Charlie's angel film and thought that it was being held back to front but that is the way you hold this phone, with the keys on the outside. This is not just a phone but an entire office, literally. It serves as a phone, fax an email terminal, calendar, contacts book, word processor, powerpoint viewer, speadsheet and internet browser, all in one! Phew! It can also play games which can be downloaded for free from the nokia site, which at the moment include a football, snowboarding and golf game. Though quite cumbersome it combines a phone and your palmtop in one and it can ... more

Advantages Advantages Office on the move

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Daylight viewing

I bought one of these as my work phone just over a year ago - expensive it certainly was! I was unable to get a 9110 so paid a cool 399 pounds for the colour screen 9210. Being a bit of an old fart, I have trouble with the really small phones - short of having a child's fingers grafted onto each hand I had to find something where I only pressed one button at a time. The QWERTY keypad is the business, I still haven't found out how to use all the functions - the "on board" manual is great, unless you need to refer to it during use?!? I have to be an emergency contact for young people's trips ... more

Advantages Advantages Screen, software, look of phone, almost everything about it

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could use more memory, some people think it's a bit big

As an avid Nokia communicator fan since the first nokia 9000, I decided to get myself a 9210 - even if it was quite expensive for a mobile phone (which has come down in price since then). The reason? Where can I start? As a phone it does what most other phones out there will do, make and receive calls, SMS, tones and Logos, but that's where any similarity ends. Open up the PDA and the 4096 colour TFT screen almost takes your breath away with the quality and clarity. The standard application that come with the 9210 are worth the money, Word, Sheet, Presentation viewer, Move player, WAV player ... more

Advantages Advantages a phone and PDA in one, hi-res colour screen, lots of downloads available

    Disadvantages Disadvantages size and weight

Do you have a phone AND a PDA? If the answers "yes" then you'd probably be better off with the Nokia 9210 Communicator. It is a perfectly good mobile phone with good reception, excellent battery standby time, easy text messaging via a QWERTY keyboard and standard WAP functions. It's also a perfectly good PDA, incorporating a word processor, spreadsheet, movie player, WAV player, calculator, contacts directory, calendar, calculator and a few other goodies besides. In practical terms the phone is bigger and heavier than today's average mobile, though still acceptable for everyday use. And it's ... more
