The N80 is Sexier than a Six-Handed Massage

Advantages: More advanced than all the gadgets in Q's laboratory put together
Disadvantages: Slide mechanism does not spring open and shut, battery life (again!)

...2001, ye olde company of Nokia announced its first smart phone, the 7650. Instead of separating these smart phones into their own, scary, techno-geek-type product class, Nokia simply positioned them as the most functional phones. They showed off the phone's most widely-appealing functions such as SMS, MMS and the (for its time) advanced camera function and hid away the scary, techno-geek abilities of its operating system. So it was, that Nokia cunningly ...
...capability and appeal of the Nokia N80. Why the N80 will be such a massive hit is because Nokia have paid so much attention to every detail. The main reasons why this heavyweight handset beats others into submission is its array of advanced features, the combination of which differentiates it strongly from its closest rivals: the classic, but functional slider design; the first Nokia phone with a 3 megapixel camera; its reasonable size and weight; ...

...suffice. I've lived with my Nokia 6630 for a good two years now, and I liked it so much that when I came to browse the market (or eBay, as is so often the case), I really found myself only looking at Nokia phones. I go through this process about once every other month, but always stop at the last minute when I ask myself: Do I really need ANOTHER phone? The answer has always been no, until last month that is, when I finally decided to see £80 disappear ...
...mm thicker than my old Nokia 6630 and it's shorter. The N80 has a reasonably sized screen, just over 2 inches diagonally, and has a good resolution for a screen of that size: 352x416. The TFT screen is capable of displaying over 260,000 colours meaning that images can be represented fairly accurately. Most applications can take full advantage of the screen size and ratio, by allowing the phone to be rotated 90 degrees and having the application display ...

...adaptor (for using normal headphones), Nokia headphones, a carrying strap and a USB computer cable. Looking at the phone it is quite chunky but not overly big, measuring in at 90(h) x 50(w) x 26(d) although it does get a lot bigger when the keypad is open. It weighs in at 134g which is heavier than most. It does look good and the keypad does only need to be open to write text messages and phone people. So first thing I did was went to charge the ...
...lot! To be fair to Nokia they do supply an adaptor to put on an original charger to work with the N80 but I'm not going to carry that around with me all day. The 128mb mini SD card is adequate but as I use my phone for a lot of music I decided to immediately order a 2 GB card from the internet for only £25 which allows me to store over 500 songs. Another short fall on Nokia's part is not supplying an adaptor to use the mini SD card in a normal SD ...

...the pictures taken with the nokia usually look better than the k750 especially once they are on the computer and you can see the difference in the resolution. Although the nokia dose have its problems the shuuter speed being the biggest for me, meaning that you have to be very steady to avoide getting a blurry shot, this can be a right pain, also the lack of an auto focus is annoying although dosent make as much difference as you might think and ...

The keyboard is lit with blue LED lighting as you would expect so it can be used at night. The screen on the phone is exceptional although it is not particularly they have managed to pack a very high resolution in, 352x416, with up to 262,144 colours! ...expect from a top level Nokia it has all the features such as bluetooth, infra red, polyphonic ringtones, mp3 player, photo editor, video editor etc etc. Other points to note about the phone is that it has some pretty handy applications. Quickoffice allows you to open stored MS office documents, handy if you want to carry your cv/resume to interviews, or just need to ammend a document (I don't advise this as I can't see how anyone can type a document ...
...The software provided by Nokia has a backup facility as well as well as some pretty cool sms and mp3 editiors and converters. These are the features I have found to be quite good and of course if you go to the nokia website you'll be able to find out every last detail of the phone (but Im not going to bore you with the amperage of the battery!). What I will talk about though is how I have found using it over the last few weeks. Firstly is the accessories ...

Fantastic but be sure you can handle the drawbacks

Advantages: Huge number of features
Disadvantages: Battery life, 'crashes'

I have had my Nokia N80 for almost 2 months now, so feel I know enough about it to write a review. I'm not going to spend ages telling you all the different features it has, just go to the Nokia website if you want to know. Instead I feel I have more important stuff to let you know. Firstly I'll let you know all the phones bad points. And to be honest there are quite a few. To begin with it's the battery life. I can only just manage to get a day ...
...since before I had a Nokia 6680 and all you had to do was slide the lens cover open, but still. The zoom, although classed as step-less, is very jerky and not at all smooth like it is on the 6680. Beneath the camera lens on the rear of the phone there is a macro switch, allowing you to take close up shots. I haven't really used it much but I find it isn't 'built' very well. Mine has already come loose slightly and no longer locks in place very well. ...

I will list the functions that I use most and items I considered important: Back to the phone; Firstly in the most basic terms, as a mobile phone, the reception is good, the caller is always clear and there have been no problems with recieving, diverting, setting up answer machines etc. If you just want a good phone, that looks swish, this is the one. Secondly; For ...

Fifth: I do not use games on the mobile very often, only the occasional desperate moment, but I quite enjoy some of the Card games that are standard on the phone. Very different and a chance to learn new games, there are a couple I had never heard of before in my life. Sixth: As a music player the quality ...

...the list of goodies and Nokia certainly jammed a good part of the sweet shop into the N80's attractive, mid-size package. And the sweeties mostly do the job. The 3 megapixel camera may not have auto-focus, but it produces reasonable quality stills and better than average video. There are also a number of options - like White Balance, Sepia, Black & White - that would only have been seen on a dedicated camera up until very recently. The music player ...

Connectivity is excellent with GPRS, 3G, WiFi, Infrared and Bluetooth giving you e-mail and internet access as well as standard voice and video calls. The built in browser is OK and can easily be replaced with a 3rd party browser. If you can't find a WiFi connection though, ...

...is different from previous reviews. Nokia really need to iron out these problems, which they must have known existed. The camera on the phone is superb, giving crystal clear images. One thing I have found though, you must keep perfectly still when taking a shot or it will be blurred. I mean really still, slight movement and the results are bad. The battery is useless, this is the one thing I really don't like about this handset, it's as thin as an after eight mint ...

Advantages: good camera and video

...used to own a silver Nokia N80 and was so unbelievably chuffed when i got it through the post, luckily i hadnt paid a penny for it as i got it free with a very expensive contract. Advantages: Wifi, fantastic stereo speaker, amazing screen
Disadvantages: Unlocking keypad, slow menus & battery life!

I have had the Nokia N80 for a week now and I have been very impressed with this feature filled phone! Series 60 I have been using Nokia's with the series 60 operating systems for the last four handsets that I have had (3650, 7610, 6680 and now N80) and I can honestly say this is the best series 60 OS I have used so far. Although having said that inspite of its size it is a very good looking phone and its nicely rounded edges make is easy to hold and 2 handed texting is a piece of cake. The N80 is a slider phone, and as such is shorter and thicker than the average phone, the slider when open is sturdy, however when closed it has a slight wobble that may worsen over time.
