Advantages: Great Uni. Fact! Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace!
Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural ... ...and had an awesome time.
In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer to all Uni buildings, I can confirm they pale in significance to the standard of the Simpsons. Great facilities, en-suite ...

Advantages: Cheapish to live, great nightlife, teaching and facilities are excellent Disadvantages: Expensive to get to.
...Business with Spanish course. The Nottingham Business School is extremely well organised and the quality of teaching is excellent. There is a huge range of information available in the Language Centre. The university as a whole has fantastic facilities, despite being in the middle of the city. There are now, new extensive sports facilities and the library is well stocked and comprehensive. There is also access to the Internet everywhere you go which ... ...In addition to all this, the accommodation is great. I spent my 1st year in halls and there was a huge difference between NTU’s and the other Universities in the country. All in all, Nottingham is the place to be, and Nottingham Trent is the place to go! ...

Advantages: Everything stated in the above text Disadvantages: They are doing away with Recreation and Hospitality Management courses in one or two years time
I have been at Nottingham Trent University for 2 years, this being my third and I have throughly enjoyed the atmosphere, nightlife, activities, clubs, and most important of all the high teaching standards and the level of help that you get from any member of staff within the building. I first started Nottingham Trent through a franhise with New College Nottingham doing a Diploma in Recreation Management, and now I am doing a top-up degree course ... ...the main City Campus of Nottingham Trent, I was very please in the level and advancedness of the way lectures are put forward, the new types of technology, the large investment in new computers, and the friendliness of staff. This University has developed well since it change from a polytechnic, and has some of the best professors about. Even some of the lectures are very good, with about 85% of staff (teaching) that write books that actually do ...

...completed my first year at Nottingham Trent University doing a BA in Textile Design. I’ve really enjoyed the course and it’s been a great learning experience. With less than a month left till I go back, I need to get back into a hardworking frame of mind.
As with any design-based course you are expected to have a certain degree of self- motivation. I must stress that it is a full-time course and needs your dedication if you want to do ... ...had three, so I know!).
Nottingham was my first choice so I was all the more nervous. Nottingham Trent University is no exception, be prepared if you have an interview. Once I had my interview (after the dreaded wait) I was overjoyed to find out that I was given an ‘unconditional’ offer. This means that I was guaranteed a place no matter what grades I’d get in foundation. Interview preparation includes swotting up on what is going ...

Advantages: Part time day doesn't start until 12pm Disadvantages: Finishes at 9pm, then having to travel makes a late evening
Having completed the first year of a part time course at NTU, I have to say I'm disappointed with the administration, part timers are very much forgotten about, sometimes seminar sessions are scheduled for days when we are not at the university and there is very little communication between departments to organise this.
Some of the course content is a little irrelevant to working life, but I guess the modules have to cover such a wide syllabus.
... ...difficult to find an unoccupied computer, printing is a bit faschist as you can only print a certain number of pages per year (even though we're paying 900 pounds for the course), but I guess this is to block student w*nkers from abusing the system.
The food areas are plentiful and fairly priced, unfortunately the quality of the food is much to be desired.
When it comes to recommended books, take the booklist with a huge pinch of salt, most of ...

Advantages: location, cost of living, nightlife, lectures Disadvantages: not many societies
...is that it is fantastic. Nottingham Trent was originally a Polytechnic and was given university status in 1992. It has nine main faculties, some of which are art and design, law, construction and my faculty which is economics and social sciences. Therefore, there is a broad range of subjects on offer, and the syllabus is constantly expanding. I personally study Sociology, a degree which is gaining more status in terms of academia. As a first year, ... ...high standard.
Transport in Nottingham is good however, and there are many bus routes with regular timetables. It costs around 90 p for a journey into town. There is also the new tram system which operates from the city centre and goes right out to Hucknall or Phoenix Park. A typical tram journey costs about £1 and you can get a day pass for £2. I personally love the trams, as they are clean and regular and they run til midnight every night. They ...

Advantages: Good teaching, good mix of courses Disadvantages: clifton campus needs a facelift
...spent three years based at Nottingham Trent clifton campus site studying a degree in Communication Studies. Now the course was ok, I particularly enjoyed certain subjects, however the actual campus was appalling. This 1991-1994 so maybe things have changed a little now, but everything was so old and dated like the library and the refectory. The city site seemed to get all the refubishment and trendy redecoration and poor old Clifton remained stuck ...

Advantages: Vibrant student city Disadvantages: Red tape bogs things down
I did my degree at Nottingham Trent University (and subsequently have been employed there), and it suffers from a certain amount of schizophrenia. Some of the faculties/courses are decidedly average, whilst others shine in their field. Some of the main problems within NTU come from the excessive bureacracy and red tape encountered when trying to do anything! Mainly this is due to a seeming inability of departments to communicate with one another, ...

Advantages: Good atmosphere on campus. Part time courses well run. Disadvantages: Brackenhurst campus 10 miles away from city life.
...miles away from the main Nottingham sites.
I studied on a part-time basis as the company I worked for at the time of starting my course agreed to release me from work one day per week, over a three year period. Not a free day off work, oh no, the course was very demanding. I enjoyed all my time at Brackenhurst as the subject matter was what I was really interested in, indeed it had bearing on my job as a food technologist. The tutors at Brackenhurst ... ...and the HND I now hold certainly didn't go against me in the interviews!!
If you are looking for full or part time courses in food or other land based studies such as animal care or floristry then I would recommend the Brackenhurst campus of Nottingham Trent to you. ...

Advantages: Evening classes Disadvantages: facillities in the evenings
I did my BA at NTU, and because it is reasonably close to my home, I looked there for my MA.
The Globalization, Identity and Globalization MA will apeal to anyone interested in the social sciences or psychology. A few people who have found this an interesting choice have been interested in the politics of globalization, citizenship and enviromental issues.
My own interest has been from a sociological/psycological perspective.
The modules included ... ...Research Methods/Dissertation and a choice of 2 modules from a range on offer so you can tailor the course to your own particular needs.
I opted for 'celebrity culture' & 'migrant narrative' options, while others chose 'Britishness', or 'enviromentalism', among others.
The staff are all very helpful and approachable. The admin has so far been excellant and very helpful when things have been difficult.
Classes are usually held in an evening to ...

Advantages: Great city, good courses, heart of the country - central Disadvantages: Can't think of any
Back in the days when Nottingham Trent University used to be Trent Poly, I spent four years in the wonderful city doing my degree in knitwear design. Don't remember much about the course, but I do remember all night partying, folk clubs where aran sweatered beer swilling gals and guys serenaded us and big old houses where loads of us communally 'lived' and bawled each other out daily for pinching each other's food. Ah those were the days! The 'Trip' ... ...Old Perculiar all night.
Nottingham is a WONDERFUL city and the college provided me with the means to 'grow up'- to leave home and start to make my own way in the world. The courses at the college are many and varied and all I can say is if you are thinking of taking further education you could do a lot worse than Nottingham Trent University.
I *did* get my degree by the way. ...
