Nasty Nurofen Pinched my Pennies!

AdvantagesDoes the job fine

DisadvantagesNothing special and not worth the price

"...not the case with these Nurofen tablets. Nurofen is simply a brand name for a type of ibuprofen tablet. The ones I purchased was a pack of 16 for £2.25 – although I was in a petrol station, where there’s not much to choose from and the prices are pretty hefty. At the moment in Boots these cost £1.95. In comparison, a brand I buy quite often is Galpharm Ibuprofen, which is 35p for 16 tablets. Both brands contain 200mg of ibuprofen in each tablet, ..." Read review

Zap that pain

AdvantagesA incredibly good analgesic

DisadvantagesNot suitable for everyone - read the label

"Nurofen is a pain killer (analgesic) that is widely available and can be bought over the counter, in supermarkets, chemists or even petrol stations. As a trained nurse this is often prescribed for post operative pain and can when used can be a fantastic drug - well the patients seem to stop rolling around in pain anyway!!!!!!! Nurofen contains Ibuprofen which is the generic name for this drug and it belongs to the Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory ..." Read review

Not Tonight Dear - I Have A Headache

AdvantagesGood general pain relief

DisadvantagesNot suitable for everyone, can cause some bad side effects, expensive

"Nurofen is one of the best known painkillers on sale. It was first launched as an over-the-counter painkiller in 1983, and has become one of the UK's top selling brands. Who makes it ------------ Manufactured only by Crookes Healthcare, a subsidiary of The Boots Company, in the UK, it was The Boots Company who discovered the active ingredient used in Nurofen in 1963. Used for around 20 years extensively as a prescription only product, it ..." Read review

Misconceptions

AdvantagesGood pain killer

DisadvantagesCan be harsh on the stomach, those with asthma should tread carefully

"...already covered an op on Nurofen Plus - but am a little concerned at some of the misconceptions about the nurofen product range. I trained as a nurse many years ago and more recently worked for three years as a stock control manager for a pharmaceutical company, whereby I needed to develop and maintain a broad knowledge on a variety of medical products from the common aspirin to the more powerful stuff that we won't mention here. I do not ..." Read review

Pain Relieved Quickly

Advantageswork quick, easy to swallow

Disadvantages-

"...night I decided to get Nurofen as it was the only option. Nurofen is quite distinct to spot on the shelf as it comes in a silver rectangular shapes box with the red Nurofen logo. It also has an image of the tablets on the front with the Nurofen circle icon. It includes 12 tablets in the box and is Ibuprofen 200mg and is targeted relief for pain. The Nurofen tablets are for specific pain relief: Headaches, Period Pain, Dental Pain, Migraine, ..." Read review

Nurofen tablets are effective - but still a waste of money!

AdvantagesEffective. Easy to take. No side effects (in me). Can get it anywhere.

DisadvantagesExpensive compared to other Ibuprofen tablets.

"...I decided to start taking Nurofen regularly because I was aware that Ibuprofen, which is the active ingredient in Nurofen, was an analgesic and also an anti-inflammatory. The packet I bought had 24 tablets in it that were foil wrapped. They cost me £3.69 from Lloyds Pharmacy and were very readily accessible without prescription. Each tablet contained 200mg of Ibuprofen and so it is recommended that the adult dose is 2 tablets no more than every ..." Read review

They work, but...

AdvantagesIt works.

DisadvantagesExpensive, when you consider the cost of generic Ibuprofen.

"...come in asking me what Nurofen contains, whether or not it contains Aspirin is surprising. It's actually a *lot* cheaper to buy generic Ibuprofen rather than Nurofen. Nurofen is a brand name for Ibuprofen. Iburofen itself is a non-steriodal anti-inflammatory, or NSAID. It has three actions: analgesic (pain-killing), anti-inflammatory (reduces swelling) and anti-pyretic (fever/temperature-reducing). It is useful for all kinds of pain-relief, ..." Read review

Thankyou SO much Nurofen!

AdvantagesEffective

DisadvantagesMore expensive than value brands

"...never be normal again. Luckily, nurofen came in very handy! I was dissapointed that despite the amount of pain I was in, my doctor refused to prescribe me a stronger painkiller due to other medication I was on, and so when I was told that nurofen was reccomended rather than anything stronger I felt like crying, however it really did help take off the edge and made day to day activities easier, although I did still have to move about at the pace of ..." Eats Away The Pain, Eats Away The Stomach

AdvantagesExcellent for pain relief

DisadvantagesNot Suitable For Long-term Use

"...really more of a warning. Nurofen is an extremely useful medicine. It is an excellent anti-inflammatory and seems to get to the site of pain fast. There is, however, something you should all be aware of. This medication can do a lot of damage to your stomach. I used this as a painkiller over about an eighteen month period and it caused a stomach ulcer to develop. The problem with severe pain is that you tend not to want to eat much when in pain. ..." Nurofen caplets

AdvantagesWorks for me

DisadvantagesThere are side effects

"...front of their packaging but Nurofen has always been my favourite pain relief of choice now as it really seems to work well for me and gets to the target of my pain fast. Recently I had quite a bad cold and decided to fight it on all fronts, this included cough medicine, nose inhalers and the good old reliable pain tablets. I decided to purchase a pack of the caplets in the 200mg each strength. I normally prefer the gel caps but these were quite ..." Read review

Nurofen 200mg Tablets.....ideal for minor to mild pain Review with images

Advantageswork on most pains, cheap enough

Disadvantagesnone

"I first brought Nurofen when I had a severe headache, nothing else was shifting it, before buying I did speak to the chemist in Boots who advised I try something stronger than my standard paracetamol and was advised this, it can be brought without a prescription so can be purchased at chemists or local Sainsbury's, Tesco's, Asda's, boots etc. I paid £2.85 for 12 tablets. Nurofen contains Ibuprofen, and is designed to target a number of different pains, ..." Read review

Read The Small Print

AdvantagesEffective pain relief for most people

DisadvantagesSide-effects and allergic reactions for some

"I took Nurofen a few years ago, when I was living at home with my parents during my wilderness years. I had a severe headache, and found them in the back of the bathroom cabinet - my big brother had left them behind. I read the side of the packet, and read through the leaflet that came with them. I took two tablets. I waited for my headache to go. It went. But I found myself in agony. My back hurt. My chest hurt. I could not stand up straight. ..." Read review

Targeted Relief For Pain

AdvantagesFast acting effective pain killers/anti-inflammatories

DisadvantagesStomach disorders and very expensive

"Neurofens are one of the best over-the-counter painkillers available on the market today. The main ingredient is ibuprofen which doubles up as a very effective anti-inflammatory and reduces fever and high temperatures. I get a lot of muscle and nerve pain, and although most painkillers are effective against the muscle aches, nothing has been able to even touch the nerve pain, apart from Neurofens! They are also particularly effective at lessening ..." Read review

The great drug company rip-off

AdvantagesThey work

DisadvantagesThe price

"...cold/flu symptoms. The recommended dosage of Nurofen is 1 or 2 tablets per time, with another dose not less than 4 hours later, and no more than 6 tablets should be taken in one day. It is not recommended for children under 12. Nurofen is very effective. It is powerful and acts fast. Many people find that it brings relief where other painkillers have failed. As with all powerful drugs, though, Nurofen can have pretty powerful side effects, ..." Read review
