Advantages Advantages Does the job fine

Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing special and not worth the price

I’m of the opinion that if something has a brand name, and is charging three, four or even five times the price of similar products with no brand name, then it had better have some pretty neat tricks up its sleeve. In best case scenario, it would be performing three, four or five times better than its non-branded rivals. Unfortunately, this is most definitely not the case with these Nurofen tablets. Nurofen is simply a brand name for a type of ibuprofen tablet. The ones I purchased was a pack of 16 for £2.25 – although I was in a petrol station, where there’s not much to choose from and the ... more

Advantages Advantages A incredibly good analgesic

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not suitable for everyone - read the label

Nurofen is a pain killer (analgesic) that is widely available and can be bought over the counter, in supermarkets, chemists or even petrol stations. As a trained nurse this is often prescribed for post operative pain and can when used can be a fantastic drug - well the patients seem to stop rolling around in pain anyway!!!!!!! Nurofen contains Ibuprofen which is the generic name for this drug and it belongs to the Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory group of drugs (NSAID) As the name would suggest this drug can reduce many inflammatory conditions (muscular pain, sprains, dental pain) along with ... more

Nurofen is one of the best known painkillers on sale. It was first launched as an over-the-counter painkiller in 1983, and has become one of the UK's top selling brands. Who makes it ------------ Manufactured only by Crookes Healthcare, a subsidiary of The Boots Company, in the UK, it was The Boots Company who discovered the active ingredient used in Nurofen in 1963. Used for around 20 years extensively as a prescription only product, it was then launched as an over-the-counter medicine in 1983 because of its good safety record. What’s it used for ------------------ Nurofen belongs to a ... more

WARNING: I AM NOT A DOCTOR, NURSE OR PHARMACIST I have already covered an op on Nurofen Plus - but am a little concerned at some of the misconceptions about the nurofen product range. I trained as a nurse many years ago and more recently worked for three years as a stock control manager for a pharmaceutical company, whereby I needed to develop and maintain a broad knowledge on a variety of medical products from the common aspirin to the more powerful stuff that we won't mention here. I do not claim to be an expert and certainly don't want to upset anyone by claiming to know better than them ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

I am normally not one for being ill but sometimes I'll get the odd situation where I get a headache due to stress like most people. The other night I was suffering from really bad stomach pain, I had tried taking normal Ibuprofen but it only ended up making me sick and took no effect whatsoever. This is when I had to end up going out to my local 24 in agony to get something as I was desperate to get rid of the pain as there is nothing worse in the middle of the night. I normally don't bother buying more expensive brands but this night I decided to get Nurofen as it was the only option. Nurofen ... more

Advantages Advantages Effective. Easy to take. No side effects (in me). Can get it anywhere.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive compared to other Ibuprofen tablets.

Last year I had a prolapsed spinal lumbar disk which I needed surgery for after being on ridiculous amounts of prescribed pain killers for about 6 months. Once the operation was done, I was told by my surgeon that I should carry on taking the prescribed pain killers (Tramadol, Voltarol, Morphine....all manner of things) for at least another six weeks until I was well on my way towards healing. However, having been on these pills for so long - and suffering the awful side effects - I decided to come off them. However, I decided to start taking Nurofen regularly because I was aware that ... more

    Advantages Advantages It works.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, when you consider the cost of generic Ibuprofen.

...well, it's just Ibuprofen! As a pharmacy assistant, the number of people that come in asking me what Nurofen contains, whether or not it contains Aspirin is surprising. It's actually a *lot* cheaper to buy generic Ibuprofen rather than Nurofen. Nurofen is a brand name for Ibuprofen. Iburofen itself is a non-steriodal anti-inflammatory, or NSAID. It has three actions: analgesic (pain-killing), anti-inflammatory (reduces swelling) and anti-pyretic (fever/temperature-reducing). It is useful for all kinds of pain-relief, such as tooth-ache, back-pain, arthritis, etc. It helps bring-down ... more

    Advantages Advantages Effective

Disadvantages Disadvantages More expensive than value brands

As a lot of my regular readers will know, I gave birth to my beautiful little girl on the tenth of last month. I had a natural (vaginal) birth and unfortunately needed an episiotomy. I had internal stitches which in my opinion slowed down the healing process as I was so swollen and in so much pain for a solid fortnight and even after that, the pain was almost unbareable - I could honestly hardly move (even laying down was painful!) and I thought I'd never be normal again. Luckily, nurofen came in very handy! I was dissapointed that despite the amount of pain I was in, my doctor refused to ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent for pain relief

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not Suitable For Long-term Use

As the title suggests, this opinion is really more of a warning. Nurofen is an extremely useful medicine. It is an excellent anti-inflammatory and seems to get to the site of pain fast. There is, however, something you should all be aware of. This medication can do a lot of damage to your stomach. I used this as a painkiller over about an eighteen month period and it caused a stomach ulcer to develop. The problem with severe pain is that you tend not to want to eat much when in pain. With these tablets it is essential to line the stomach first, before taking them if you want to avoid damaging ... more
