Advantages: £30 worth of messages absolutely free Disadvantages: Calls can be expensive
Having been an o2 customer for many years, in fact ever since I got my first mobile phone at the age of 14, I was keen to see what all the fuss was about with regards to their relatively new sim card that offers 300 free messages and 1Mb of WAP for you to go surfing the net on your phone with. I have always been one to text and rarely phone anyone (unless its my taxi service or rather my mum!). Not so long ago, o2 changed their tariffs slightly, ... ...(if you're not familiar with o2 they offer various 'bolt ons' whereby you pay a certain amount per month to get a number of messages, my messages were working out at 7p rather than 10p), but I was always using up the messages, and therefore spending roughly £10 on my phone, if not more when I was feeling the urge to send more messages! My friend had recently bought the genie sim card, and seemed rather impressed with it. I had been tempted to buy ...

In fact I have received several messages from O2 informing me of promotions and prizes i.e treats and 10% back on top-ups. I even got a message once telling me about how the following Sunday all calls to O2 numbers would be free! so yes my battery ...

Basically this sim enables you to receive 300 free texts a month for topping up with £10.
As along as your phone is unlocked or you are currently on O2 all you need to do is pop the sim in your phone. You need to top up a minimum of £10 to allow you to get the free texts. Advantages: 300 free text messages & 1Mb free WAP Disadvantages: customer services is expensive
...Investigation at my local O2 stores was discouraging, pay-as-you-go phones can get expensive these days! Then someone mentioned Argos. Another quick search online and I found out that some of their O2 phone packages were half price, including the Seimens C65 and Nokia 6610i both or which have good reviews and enough of the features I want in a mobile to keep me contented.
Finally, I needed to be sure I could use the Argos bought phone with the online ... ...O2 customer services, who were surprisingly helpful despite the things I have heard about them. They were fairly sure that the Argos phones came with an ordinary highstreet pay-as-you-go SIM. However, they said I could order the "300 Free Texts" SIM online, or even purchase one at a local O2 store where they are half price at the moment. £4.99 to be able to get all those free text messages and WAP access, what a bargain!
So I went to Argos & got ...

...at one point, and an O2 banner ad caught my eye - I clicked the banner and read the terms of the offer and decided to order myself some free sim cards... now most of my friends are no the network taking advantage of all the free texts!

Although any remaining texts ... ...they were in was superb. O2 had obviously made an effort to make the transition to their network smooth and easy - everything you needed to know was presented neatly in a booklet.
While the call charges are not particularly cheap (but hey, they are not cheap on any network), after three minutes they drop to quite a cheap rate. And with O2 Treats you can get other great things like free calls to voicemail and reduced call rates.
On a whole, I don't ...

...Genie some time ago, But o2 mustve bought them out or something. The basic idea is you top up £10 a month minimum, and when you do you recieve 300 free texts and 1Mb worth of GPRS to use up. Advantages: 300 free texts! Free Sim card! Disadvantages: Running out of free texts!
I've had this Sim card for about 2 years now (I think), and wouldn't consider changing it.
The basic deal is that you top up your account each month with a minimum of £10, and you get 300 texts free. The £10 credit doesn't have to used, so if you never made any calls, or extra texts, then your credit would just continue mounting each month.

Every so often 02 seem to do promos on these cards, about 6 months ago you could get 6 cards for free on line. This is where most of them come from on Ebay (I was guilty of this myself!!). HOWEVER, at present the Sim cards are FREE at o2.co.uk, so go and grab one!
I am a bit of a textaholic, and have only ever run out of free texts once. It is annoying when this happens, as you realise what an expensive habit it could be. ...

I started using O2 in 2002 when i first met my boyfriend. At that point the service was that you top up by £10 per month and before your anniversary date.

Advantages: £30 worth of text's a month or 100mins voice calls and 1MB Data Disadvantages: have to top up £10 a month to get freebies
The o2 Genie card, a piece of plastic and a bit of electronics, quite like any other simcard. Just one nice big fat difference, £££'s of free stuff.
Ill lay down the facts then. Top up £10 a month and get £30 worth of text's free, or as o2 refers to as 300 "units". There's two options "text a lot" or "talk a lot".
Heres a little help:
Option 1 - 300 units, use only on messages, SMS=1 unit, MMS=3 units.
Option 2 - 100 units, use on calls and texts. ... ...hard to understand :D
Then they throw in some free wap, (mobile internet) , 1MB of it which will save you quite a bit. Also for signing up (brand new sim card only) they give you a free poly ringtone, free java game and a free pic message. Not bad you say? Well it gets better.
They will give you £2.50 calltime free if you send them a FREE text stating your details and £3 calltime the first time you top up online. Downside, pretty expensive calls ...
