A fully loaded James Bond Phone

Advantages: Built in GPS, Lots of functions, not too big
Disadvantages: Fragile screen, bluetooth eats battery life.

...had the device replaced by O2 because of the screen. However, the latest screen has what I can only describe as \"pressure marks\" on it from something sharp being pressed into the screen. This in turn has left a deep indentation in the screen which causes problems with the stylus. I end up selecting items i shouldnt from the screen! The side buttons are again too exposed, like the XDA 2i, which leaves me to accidentally press things in my pocket ...
...Usability. This phone has NO KEYBOARD. so for you text happy people, be prepared to use the stylus to type messages. This can get a little frustrating but the predictable text spelling does help. The \"Orbit\" wheel acts very much like a scroll wheel on a traditional mouse and is handy when selecting menu items. In the centre of the Orbit Wheel is a trackball mouse that you click down to select items. Much quicker than getting the stylus out. The ...

Going into orbit with O2

Advantages: Small, light, reliable
Disadvantages: Small, light, slow

This phone was recently issued to me by my employer as a replacement for the XDA2i, which had proved to be unreliable. I will divide this review into two parts, my initial impression of the phone and my experience of using it in the field. Our usage of PDA phones is how we get our calls in the field. I work as a field support engineer and when a call arrives for me it is displayed on the screen in an application called antenna, which we install on ...
...will notice about this phone is the deviously clever design of the box! it took some of our guys ten minutes to get it open and find all the accessories. we carry our service manuals on SD cards and I found fitting the microSD card very fiddly. once installed, however, it stays put. it goes under the SIM card and anyone who has handled a micro SD will tell you, it is smaller than a badger's toe nail. The screen is smaller than the old XDA, making ...

Huge number of features, but good at none.

The O2 Orbit is an upgrade to other XDAs like the Mini IIs. I have a review here on the Mini IIs too, so I will be comparing the two in this review. The O2 Orbit is in fact a rebadged HTC device. Got this O2 Orbit as an upgrade to my O2 Mini IIs about 3 weeks ago. The moment it was released I had wanted it because of the GPS feature on it. I do not really need the FM radio since my car MP3 player can do a better job. Now on to the review. The ...
...managed to corrupt the installed O2 software within 4 days and have to uninstall it completely from the system. While this may not be a problem with the unit itself, it comes preloaded with the unit straight from O2. However another problem recently occurring on this unit is the program bar for the text input (any type) placed itself at the wrong place. It should be at the bottom, but once it appears about 1/4 of the way up. This caused me to see ...

A fully featured PDA phone

Advantages: Lightweight, Loads of features, GPS, free Win Mobile 6 upgrade

...thing I will really praise O2 for is offering a free upgrade to Windows Mobile 6. Usually mobile operators don't bother with operating system upgrades and your left having to buy a new phone if you want to be up to date. It's a shame that other operators don't offer this. For music playback you have to rely on the cheap headphones provided. They also act as a receiver for FM radio so this feature is useless without them. As the headphones don't ...
...hardware keyboard. I've found O2 to be a little on the expensive side and not as good value for money in comparison to T-Mobile's Web'n'Walk packages. GPRS is expensive in comparison to their unlimited usage package. If this matters to you then take a look at the MDA Compact III. The Orbit does contain Wi-fi which the MDA Compact III doesn't. If your Internet usage is mainly at home or from Wi-fi hotspots then the lack of cheap GPRS may not matter ...

...my phone, skinned to the o2 bubble) which once clicked allows you to see a list of all programs running and gives a cross next to each to shut them down. Quick, clean and very useful to the pda user. The second complaint is the size of the screen. Ok, so yes the screen isn't as big as a full blown pda screen available these days (or even when my axim came out) but I don't find it as small as I thought I would. ...other phone currently available through o2 I doubt I would be using them for this function either. On the whole though the picture is very clear, the screen as the right amount of spongyness to accept my taps comfortably and everything I will use the phone for is viewed easily. This leads me onto a quick review of the camera. It's ok, it works. I wouldn't say the pictures are astounding but nore are they very bad. A flash would probably helped a ...

Bring the Orbit back down to Earth!

O2 Xda Orbit Phones of the future dont actually seem to be getting smaller at all. The Orbit is one of the phone 'computers' which seem to be becoming more and more popular. The Orbit sure looks nice but it is still very bulky. There is lots going on inside and the orbit is bursting from the seems but is there too much??? Features; Touchscreen; very responsive, you can control with a 'touch pen' or with your finger. Howevr you do make more mistakes ...

Quick review of O2 Xda Orbit

Usage: It took me a while to get the hang of it as I am used to the more traditional phone. The first thing I noticed is how fiddly the stylus is. The touchscreen is also quite sensitive but slightly too small... The camera is pretty average, but then I was not expecting much anyway... Battery life was good, it could go for two days without recharging it, which was a pleasant surprise. Annoyingly, the phone doesn\'t come with any memory card, although it does have 64MB internal memory... Pre-installed applications: Mobile Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Media player. Two games: Bubble breaker and Solitaire. It can play mp3 and has a built-in FM radio. However, the charger and the headphone share the same slot, which means you can't listen to radio/mp3 when the phone is charging. Wifi/infrared/bluetooth all work very well. ...

o2 XDA ORBIT almost the best phone

Advantages: WIFI GPS BLUETOOTH TOUCH SCREEN CAMERA
Disadvantages: just a bit slow

this is almost the best full function phone on the market. but not quite. its fantastic features include Microsoft word , excel, powerpoint, media player, outlook. it also has the GPS facility and bluetooth, and wifi. clear screen and a good battery life. sadly however the pcu is slightly slow compared to other pda's, i also have the windows mobile 5 version and it limits you to a 2gb memory card. which stupidly is behind the sim card. saying all ...

O2 Xda Orbit - Where do you want to go?`

Advantages: Touchscreen, Sat Nav, Clarity and Signal
Disadvantages: Satnav update annoyances and no keypad!!

...months ago on contract with o2 because of the satnav function (it was the only one with satnav that i could find at the time) . And i haven\'t regretted my decision at all. although the sat nav isn\'t the fastest at changing your route in the world - it does come with regular updates (that are really quite annoying) but hey, it works!! The phone itself i have had no problems with, reception is always good and the pens are readily replaceable. all ...

This is such a let down from the Exec or Mini S

Advantages: Sat Nav, FM Radio
Disadvantages: No keyboard, Slow operation, Difficult to change memory card

This phone has some good features but it just doesn't have what I need. I have owned one for 4 months and have had many of the XDA series. Although new features in this new addition such as GPS and Radio are useful it doesn't quite make up for the lack of a keyboard, the difficulty in replacing the memory card or the slowness of its operation. The bluetooth connection tools leave much to be desired and it is almost impossible to setup the internet ...
...this seems like a real let down. The on screen keyboard is a pain to text with and requires you to use the stylus instead of your thumbs which makes the whole process of entering text slower. My overall opinion is that if you're going to buy this phone consider what you could have with a standalone sat-nav unit, an ipod and your average Nokia/Samsung style phone. If you want this style of phone think about buying an Exec or the HTC Tytn. I just can't ...
