OLYMPUS - 'CAMEDIA' C-170 digital camera .
~ Why this one ? ~
Having previously had experience of an Olympus digital camera ( Camedia C100 ) which was stolen , I had tried a few others some with success , some without , but once again I was now on the lookout for a reasonably priced entry level digital camera that the whole family could use . Whilst looking , what did catch my eye was the C-170 from Olympus , which was of similar proportions and ... ...on batteries . If only Olympus could include an adaptor and rechargable batterioes in the initial package .
The basics manual supplied is well thought out and simple to follow , allowing you to quickly be able to use this camera . The advanced manual is easy to read via the CD and is quite informative . As with any item of this type , practice makes perfect . I'm no profesional , but got to grips with the essentials very quickly , as have my wife ...

Advantages: lightweight and compact, stylish, easy to use, great value for money Disadvantages: doesn't include the memory card you need to store more pictures
I am very excited about my new camera; I bought it a fortnight ago from high street store Jessops for £79.99. This is great value for a 4megapixel 4x zoom digital camera, as others retail for around £100 at least! The camera comes with a basic paper manual, but the more advanced one is on a CD-ROM which can be saved to your computers hard drive.
There is one button per function, which makes this a very easy camera to use. It also includes all of ... ...camera to your home PC. It's so easy; the USB cable is included, and as long as you have half an idea about how to use a computer, you'll be fine!! I have taken around 40 pictures so far and they come out brilliant. You don't have to be too careful though, not like you do with a normal 35mm flash camera. The AUTO function basically adjust the light for you, and they turn out great.
The camera is lightweight and compact, and can fit in to your pocket. ...

Advantages: Compact, reliable, quality photos, high end brand name, ease of use. Disadvantages: Small LCD screen, no opitical zoom, no memory card provided
I picked this Camera up for my 4 year old, budding photographer granddaughter off Ebay, brand new, with full warranty for £26!! It takes marvellous quality pictures, it's fast, battery friendly with a host of facilities for the more advanced photographer. I had read somewhere that it wasn't compatible with the more modern Type 'H' xd memory card; well it certainly is as it's a Fuji type H card being used in it. It seems I have an absolute bargain ... ...chain as obsolete! It certainly has an old Argos catalogue number on it and was complete and sealed. It only has a 1.5" LCD screen and no optical zoom, but for a cheap (price NOT quality) starter camera you just cannot go wrong. It is very easy to use and the build quality is excellent, as you would expect from a company such as Olympus. It takes 2 AA batteries and battery life is excellent. ...

Advantages: Fantastic battery life (I know that conflicts with other reviews) Disadvantages: Fairly low resolution, often semi-poor quality
...cannot go wrong with the Olympus C-170, and I'm only looking at it now because I figured I'd sell my old camera (hopefully) and buy one of these. For the price they are right now (49.99 used/new) you actually can't go wrong. It might be a bit of a high price for some, especially for me, but in all honesty the camera is definitely worth it for it's battery use alone. ...
