Advantages: Good write / read speeds Disadvantages: Price, Low capacity
The Olympus XD picture card is good in many ways, yet it is in the end just another memory card.
It has high read and write speeds, and supports the panoramic function in Olympus cameras (not that I regularly use that function)! The capacity of the card could cause problems when used in a camera that takes high resolution photos, although I have never really found this too much of an issue. If I was going on holiday for any great period of time ... ...(XD cards are made in up to 1GB). Another downside is that as XD cards are newer than many other card types, they are quite expensive - although their price is dropping quite quickly, and good deals can be found on the internet. Another problem with them being relatively new is that they are not supported by that many card readers, although this looks soon to be rectified as most newer card readers support the cards.

Advantages: small, cheap, easy to 'install' Disadvantages: not a great deal of capacity
Over the last 2 years this card has definitely prooven its worth. Coming in at a rather pricey 36 pounds when bought, the price of the card has since dropped dramatically and now you can easily pick one up for less than 20 (for example in Dixons, whilst over the net from Amazon and such you can pick them up for next to nothing (3 or 4 pounds). The size of the card is incredible and this means it is easy to slip as many as you want into your camera ... ...several of them you dont have to worry that if you lose one, you won't lose all your photos. The card can also hold a remarkable amount of photos, for its cost and size: 5 mega pixels = 200, whilst 10 mega pixels = 100. The card is also able to hold several minutes of video (anything from 12 to 56 minutes, it entirely depends on the settings on the camera and the type of video being taken).
